A chip and a chair question. A chip and a chair question.

Playing the super senior event at WSOP. I wont go into details about how we arrived at the last bet. The aggressor the whole hand bets 7,500 on the river. I have 8,500 left. The blinds at this time are 100 200 with a 200 big blind ante.

I am calling for sure but do I push the last 1,000 into the pot and if I lose rebuy into the event or do I struggle along with 1,000 chips and rebuy later if I lose somewhere down the road?

Hey, Tom. My view here is that there is no utility in pushing your last 1000 into the pot unless you are pretty sure you're winning the hand. Even 5 BB is enough to work with, particularly with BB ante (depending on where you are relative to the button). You may have 3-6 hands to try to find something suitable for shoving, and if you double up, plus blinds and antes, you can be up to 3500. We've all seen it happen where somebody fully short-stacked doubles up three or four times and suddenly has a starting stack, so don't just donk off your last 1000 figuring that it's hopeless.

I did not put my last 1,000 in but lost it in a race (If you call my kings against jack 8 suited a race. Lol. ). One thought I had was the quicker I lost it the quicker I could rebuy early in the tournament and improve my chances with the second bullet.

To follow the hand I called a small raise on the button with queen 8 suited. Small and big came along. Neither had shown any aggression so figured I would get in cheap.

Flop came 8 jack queen with two diamonds. It was checked to me and I bet. Small called and big raised. Original better folded and me and small called. Turn came queen of diamonds completing the flush but of course I did not care as it gave me a full house. Small bets out big raises and I call (small later said he folded the flush). Small folds the raise.

There was a blank on the river and he bet into me leaving me with 1,000 chips if I call. At his point I am putting in 7,500 to win 49 K so I don’t think I can fold. His two most likely hands were queen jack (which I cant beat) or 8’s (which I can). He could also have queen eight for a chop.

There was also a few other hands that he could be overlaying including the flush. Based on the way he played I did not think he had much experience. Of course he had queen jack so hence the question.

Think of it this way, if given these two options, which would you pick:

1)You can buy in for $1000 right now and play, or
2)You can be given 1000 chips for free, and if you bust those, buy in for $1000 then.

Seems pretty obvious.

EDIT: After reading the hand, I'm just sticking the 1k in given how often we are winning the hand. We have the second nuts against someone without experience who could easily be overplaying a hand like QQQ, not to mention a straight, a flush, or a bigger boat. But if you had a weaker hand but one too strong to fold, keep the 1k as a "bonus bullet."

I don't know the rules for that rebuy but some places let you rebuy before busto - just need to be below a certain amount.

But... if you need to be full busto to rebuy then yeah, you ship the rest in and just hope to win or start over whole.

Typically, unless you have the nuts, or the nuts isn't a realistic hand like J2, then save those blinds. A walk here or there and a double up and you are back in it.

If you double up, you won't be regretting not having 5 more blinds in your stack, if you lose it'll prove invaluable.
