Interesting situation. A good friend of mine (and a player I have a % of) William Gibbons has been playing in the Chicago Poker Classic. He won event 1, besting a field of 2600 players. He was awarded 25 points for winning this tournament. In addition, he made it to the round of 32 in the heads up tournament which awarded 5 points. The Chicago Poker Classic is attempting to say that he does not receive those points because that was not a cash. Unfortunately though they made the rules themselves and clearly listed them in the following link:
http://www.horseshoehammond.com/imag...ints_Rules.pdf

It clearly states that by finishing in 17th thru 32nd place players will earn 5 points in the heads up event. There is literally nothing in the rules stating that you have to cash to earn the points. They are now trying to say after the fact that you need to have cashed to earn the points and are not honoring the rules they put into place themselves. William and I all along have been planning out his schedule for this series based on the fact that he would be awarded these 5 points.

William Gibbons won the turbo tournament tonight for an additional 12.5 points. According to their initial rules he should have 42.5 points total and be in the lead for the Points Race which pays $50,000 to the winner, but due to them adjusting the rules mid tournament series they are now trying to say he has 37.5 points, one point behind the leader going into the final event, tomorrow at Noon.

I sincerely hope the Chicago Poker Classic will make this situation right as quickly as possible.

Print out a hard copy of that now just in case it gets changed. And GL with it, he clearly should get the 5 points for the HU since that's what was published.

^^^ also, maybe try to look online to see if you can find rules/results from past years....specifically, try to find someone who ONLY recieved points for the HU tourney...this might take a while, but could hold a lot or weight....

Yeah that guy. He's a nice dude, so I don't want to trash him. He was just really loose passive, but also sort of erratic on when he actually would bet. It's one of those things where it is really hard to know where someone is at in the hand if they have no clue where they are themselves.

Still, I definitely donk-ed my last 600K into him pretty bad. It was weird, he bet the flop out of turn, and I think he felt a little embarrassed. For whatever reason, I decided that embarrassment was weakness. Of course instead the bet meant "I've got top two and can't wait to get money in the pot".

Whoever you're dealing with at the casino with respect to the HU points issue, tell him he needs to contact the casino's lawyers immediately before they award the $50K to the wrong person and get sued. This one isn't remotely close, they published rules and now aren't following them.

Couldnt agree more. Same exact stuff when i played with im earlier on in the week. My friend had his buddy at the FT with you; younger asian guy, took 4th. When i went up there to sweat him for alil, i saw the hand where the 1 seat 'accidentally' re-raised the seat with A9o PF. the 1 seat said "o well i jsut wanted to call but i guess if i put enough for a raise, then its a rasie"...or somethign like that. It was the hand that the 3 seat go felted. When the dealer said the the 1 seat had put enough chips out to make it a legal raise, the 2 seat guy said "are you angle-ing me, sir? what kinda amatuer type sh*t is this...we are at the fuggin final table...how do you make that kinda mistake with this kinda money on the line"...
Truth be told, i sincerely think it was an honest mistake. Talk about sick when 3 seat turns over KQoff for TPGK and 1 seat is a 7:1 dog, then, whaddya know? BINK BINK! sick game...anyways, congrat catbrains

William went to the casino this morning to try to discuss the situation with the tournament director and the TD told him he was unable to discuss the situation due to lawyers being involved. I was told by someone else familiar with the matter that management at Horseshoe is in a meeting discussing the situation currently. If anyone has any additional thoughts/suggestions they are greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone that has chimed in so far.

If lawyers and management are involved that's probably good for you.

Management came back and said: We have never given points to people who do not cash. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

A ton can still happen today in this last event. From the looks of things, there are still 20 people who can win the points race. If this issue ends up being the difference between William winning or not we will pursue our legal options.

Thanks

Ah yes, the infamous 4-bet not-all-in with like 15BB effective. It was a perfect combination of 1-seat being passive and noob-ish and 3-seat really really not wanting to bust out. But yeah, sick run-out.

That Asian kid seemed to be a solid player, just couldn't get much of a stack at the FT. He was the last victim of my rungood when I shoved K9s from my SB to his BB and he woke up with AT. Spiked a K on the flop.

Thanks. The best news for me is that I was on the fence about going to the WSOP this year before this cash, so now I can definitely justify it.

Also you should see if anyone else deserves 5 extra points. Maybe someone else close to the point lead finished where you did in the heads up and also deserves more points.
