Ah OK - my bad: I saw the table of historical entries with no splt for 2007 and earlier and I assumed they only started doing it from 2008.

But I suppose they simply didn't have the day1 splits on hand for the story.
8,773 runners on one day would be a challenge! I suppose 3 days has plenty of advantages for scheduling, but I think 2 would work also. I personnally doubt the WSOP would return to 4 starting flights.
