This one will also be 25 min. Maybe with the higher buy in it will be a smaller field and a little bit quicker.
I would just play it and stay if you make it deep. Idk, 18/1200ish players were left at what? 1-1:30 probably. It’s a good problem to have if you are still in the tournament and have to drive home after. I would just stay the night or book a room at a cheaper place nearby if you need to stay. Only what 1.5% of the field will make final 18 in that player pool so you aren’t going to be around that long a big % of the time.
If it’s a higher buy in, yea the player pool will be much smaller and will mean not such a long tournament. Trust me- I would reg on time if possible and try to catch a punt or two.
Borgata did a great job with the event. Just got home. I feel borgata kinda went downhill a bit. Idk this may get laughed at but I couldn’t even get good tasting coffee at the breakfast spot I chose at borgata each morning. Like in Vegas, the breakfast alone was much better than at borgata which is a little surprising because borgata is supposed to be the best casino in AC. I know Vegas and AC are totally different but still. Entertainment wise- AC isn’t even bringing in solid djs really for a fun weekend night out (this has nothing to do with poker but still think AC is on the way out fairly soon).
I hope borgata tweaks schedule/ structures/ for future events. I still think the Venetian runs the best lower buy in deep stack events. If Borgata could give me 40 min levels from the start and say 30-40k stacks with a start at 100-100 including all of the normal levels, I would be happy. Maybe this will get laughed at but I kinda wish like 2 levels could be added in these mtts to make the bb jumps a little less crazy. The jump from a 30 to 40k bb seems gigantic if you ask me (a 35k level would be cool even tho kinda awkward: what is it going to be 18-35k or 17-35k?). I feel adding the 100-200 level at the start and then maybe like a 35k level would
Be awesome for more play.
Another note- I like how they run some solid 1 day events but also multi flighters. I would like some more multi flight events at lower buyin range $400-800 if possible. Idk just have like 2 days and maybe run 2 flights each day- why not have a 10am and 5pm start where you try not to have the 2nd flight end too late. Idk I keep saying this but the Venetian has perfect model if you ask me (they only have 1 flight a day though). The $400-100k / $600 150-200ks they run to me are the best value in poker. Random note- I love these multi flight events btw- I keep hearing how some folks will fire 5-10 bullets: the value in these mtts is just insane. I’ll still never understand why folks fire away in events with great structures where they can just fire 1-2 bullets a flight (bullet 2 should be due to a bad cooler honestly). Like I’m fine if you fire 4 bullets, aka 1 each flight but if you are going say 8-12 deep and just punting away in bad spots/ yuck just unreg pre.
The almighty stack event has to be some of the best value for buy in point. 100k stack and you include most of the levels (sure it would be better at 40 min levels instead of 30). I saw some things early that would make you go- I wish this tournament happened more often because it was pure value. I tend to think live players don’t realize how many bbs they have early and not many should go into a pot as a bluff per se without nutty hands or a bluff that is going to work a super super high % of the time. For example I had a lady turn a Q6hh button flat of an open into a bluff in a spot where it was just like what is the point.
She was nice and all- I wanted to give her advice (I didn’t want to come off as a dick so I didn’t say anything) but wanted to be like dude, just muck Q6hh there as you are going to bleed chips against better Qx and better flushes long run. I also feel I was colluded against kinda. 2 guys at my table were talking to each other like they were friends (it appeared they were), I think I flatted a raise By one guy, the friend 3!. And I 4! With AA. I believe friend 1 was out of hand 1 but hand 2- friend 1 opens, i flat AKo on semi short stack for period of tourny early in day 1, friend 2 raises big, I make it a fairly large 4! That is stack comitting. Both friends call with no bounty implications. Idk to me it just seemed super sketchy. It wasn’t a big deal and hand played out funny bc I took odd line but just seemed a little questionable. I think friend 1 had A9 and friend 2 had other junk. I didn’t think much about it but even another guy at the table saw me later and said something about the hand and how they seemed to be friends. It’s not a big deal but I found it sketchy.
Btw I love the nyc crowd. I used to think those guys were good poker players etc. you think the masculine guido types etc. yikes I feel they are like over aggro and don’t understand how strong a hand actually is (tpgk or even most tptk) isn’t that great 100-200bb deep facing a x raise on a flop or turn early in an mtt. Hope I don’t get hate here but I feel the borgata brings in that dumb money nyc crowd for tournies that just makes the events super juicy. I had a guy late in almighty calling 74o and other trash hands pre to raises (100 players left so super important time of tourny), guy ran hotter than the sun and people at my table were even commenting on it but damn I was like wow this table is amazing for so deep into mtt in big spot. Guy ended up flatting my opens (on 30-40bb stack)me 2x and owning my cbets post flop bc he hit but still was such a good spot (like in vegas, I’ve never seen such a soft table deep at a $400-800 Venetian event). Even watching the final table of the almighty, folks are open to more than 2x when stacks are super shallow which makes me roll my eyes bc 2x is basically the same thing as a 2.2-2.5x open and just allows for more post flop maneuvering.
