With the law change a few years back, they increased the max per bet to $100 and at the same time, made the max for a tourney buy in, to $10k.
What the HPT used to do prior to the law change, was they'd run qualifiers for $360, and you HAD to win the qualifier in order to make it into the ME. The Seats however, once won, were fully transferable, and while the Casino couldn't say sell a seat for more then the $500 limit set by law back then, the individual players who had won their seats via the qualifiers could ... which made for a hot market for those who won multiple seats. I remember the first time that the HPT came to Blackhawk and ran it this way. A seat that normally would go for $1600 into a HPT event elsewhere if a person bought in directly, in some cases went for 2500 or even 3k or more.
I'd heard of rumors about the WPT coming to Colorado, but it was more them going to Cripple Creek, instead of Blackhawk, CO.
Also, when I was living in Denver, there were always rumors that the WPT was coming, but the only Casino who has a room (or area like a convention center) that is truly big enough to handle them in Blackhawk, is indeed the Ameristar.
However, most of the staff in the Ameristar Poker room would always discount the rumor saying that while they'd love to have them there, they could never get management to get on board with it.
If true however, it figures this would happen after I moved away from Denver ... to Fort Wayne, Indiana ... where you have to drive a bunch to play any real big time poker tourneys ...
