Structure on the daily $540's, please. Why do I get the feeling that Bellagio doesn't care much for the preliminary events?

I made the mistake of booking my flight before seeing the structure sheets. Worst case scenario, I get stuck playing cash at Aria/Venetian if the structures are not worth $540.

There used to be a time when Bellagio was the Mecca of tournament poker and I was always looking forward to flying out and playing a few tourneys... what the hell happened to this place?

They convinced themselves they were the Mecca of poker, and people would put up with all levels of crap just for the privelege of paying rake there.

So if I'm reading this correctly, which I'm pretty sure I'm missing something, any tourney exceeding $300K in total prize pool will award the winner a $25K seat in the WPT championship? Are they planning on not reaching that prize pool in most of the events or something?
It just seems a little crazy, like the $330 event to start, if they get a 300K prize pool, w/ 1000 entrants, they are going to give back 25.5K of the 30K they rake?
Can anyone help clarify this for me?

for this series, it's only the 5k.

in the past it applied to more of their events, but running tournaments under 1k buyin is a pretty new thing for them.

(the other tourneys won't even come close to 300k prize pool, by the way)

who knows. as shown in the VDS thread, some live players get weirded out over re-entry tournaments (for dumb reasons, but it's their money), and this one is even more weird since you can play both days and combine your stack if you make day 2 twice. so that might keep some people away.

my guess is that they will get around 500-600 entries for the two days combined and it will be their biggest event by far.

why? they do not make you re-enter.

But the fact that other people know that they can re-enter ruins it because it changes the way they play. If you're not willing to have the money aside to potentially re-enter, you're at a disadvantage.

I'm assuming you mean that people will play crazy in an attempt to double up? How does that ruin the tournament? If someone is playing crazy and getting their money in bad, that's good for you. I understand that casual players want to last a while, but losing immediately is not the only possible outcome, you could double or triple up quickly too.

There might be a disadvantage to playing only one bullet, but that disadvantage is small. Certainly not big enough to justify not playing the tournament if you would have played if there were no re-entry.

It's not like online rebuy tournaments; in a live re-entry you have to pay rake again. This significantly decreases the value of those chips.

Plus the total maniacs are rare anyway. Easily less than 5% of the field. The people most likely to re-enter are casual players with plenty of money. This is good for everyone.

The good players will just play their normal game and probably won't bust during the re-entry period, and probably won't re-enter if it means coming back with a 20bb stack.

Yea thats definitely not bad. Good players almost will never be hurt by reentry.

hmmm... anyone playing this series? seems like it's being promoted terribly... i guess i will see how many people enter day 1 of event #1 and possibly enter day 2 myself...

you gotta play both day 1s, because you can combine your stacks if you make day 2 twice!
