Dr Meh- Most people are just setting up a potential Tax nightmare for themselves to set up a semi-bogus LLC. Setting up the LLC isn't tough, getting the Fed ID is a snap, but making sure you handle the State laws and Federal Tax laws properly (Sub S, Schedule C, etc) is WAY beyond making it worthwhile. Recipe for disaster (ya I have a dusty CPA certificate).

Different states have different excise tax policies to be sure. But is there a state where it’s free to organize and file annual paperwork, never mind the annual federal and state tax returns which are necessary?

Guys, I’m telling you what others have done to get the card. I’m not saying I’m an expert on all 50 state LLC laws or the feasibility of doing it.

I’m also not recommending it or advising anyone to do it. I’m just saying I’ve heard of others doing it and the guy who was asking could look into it for his state and make the decision about whether or not he would like to do it.

Not trying to lecture you at all Dr. I'm just waving a big RED FLAG to anyone reading this thread that setting up an LLC is potentially not a trivial issue and certainly not worth it to get a credit card or founders club card.

I do have a lot of experience (CPA -not in private practice though and an old fart ) that has a fair amount of professional history with legit LLC's . Can an average Joe do it ........... of course.......... can they inadvertently open a can of worms.......... absolutely.

I would say that 100% in at least some instances, the Wyndham Business Card does not require any actual business filings that would require monetary input to set up. No proof of registration of LLC or corp docs.

Can confirm -- I didn't have to show proof of LLC or anything like that for the Wyndham Business Card. I do have a tangential freelance business to my normal job fwiw but no LLC or any other registering of a business.

I have always been frustrated with the big online poker sites not running satellites for all the WSOP events.
Imagine being able to qualify online for 4-6 events in 2024 and not having to spend thousands of $$$ in buy-ins.
Surely one of the sites should be doing this?

As for the massive fields and trying to final table... I think we all go there to live the dream of one day making a final table? and this is what makes the WSOP such a special event.
I personally can't wait for this summer in Vegas.

Poker sites (in my experience) have always focused on Main Event entries...consider it the Moneymaker effect. I love the WSOP and have missed one final table by 5 players .... sigh.... so still in search of that feeling. But now that I'm finally retired I drove for the first time last year and hit 15 National Parks on the drive there and back home. Spent +40 days of frustration and bliss last year and will continue it until my legs can't handle the hikes and/or my eyes can't see the cards..... the combo trip was just a fantastic experience.

Was toying with the idea of entering the Main Event this year. Always has been something I've wanted to do, but it is a bit pricey. I'm a cash game player though so might be playing a bit out of my league. However, I've got plenty of time to prepare.

I’m not telling you what to do or not do but I will say it seems you have two disadvantages going into it.

Not only are you a cash game player adjusting to tournament play but you described the event as “pricey.” The problem with that is you have to be able and willing to essentially forfeit the $10,000. If it’s out of your budget and/or makes you uncomfortable, you won’t play optimally. You’ll be too scared to make moves at the right times.

You’ll be up against reckless rich guys with more money than brains but also very competent professionals who are in that sweet spot of $10,000 not mattering much to them but not so little it means nothing.

Again, you do you and I’m not telling you what to do. I’m certainly not judging, either (my wife would kill me if I shelled out $10,000 for a poker tournament so I’ve never played the Main), I’m just saying you might go into it at a further disadvantage if you play like you’re scared to lose.

Same feeling here. If I didn't have a recent score of at least $10K then I'd be hard pressed to justify gambling that much and I'd likely be scared money anyway. Yet the dream persists to finally play the Main Event. I almost pulled the trigger last year with about $9400 in my bankroll thanks to a good Monster Stack score. I Just couldn't pull the trigger. I am reaching that now or never age and situation.

I get what you mean, but I want to win the main event when I'm 30 rather than when I'm 50+ or so.

Lucky doesn't begin to cover it. You need the heater of a lifetime to get anywhere close to the final table in 10,000+ person field. Not to mention that typically there are some very strong players in that final 25-50 territory when play becomes critical. You not only need to be very lucky to win it, but also very good.

The Main is a bucket list item for me, but not because I'm delusional enough to think I'm going to somehow bink it. It's just a personal challenge that I've been building up to. I've been working on my game and getting comfortable playing for higher $$$ amounts, but I don't know if it's going to happen for me this year. It probably depends on my other results.

For people who want to play the Main, but are put off by the $10k price tag, I would highly recommend the $1.5k Monster Stack as a low budget approximation. Other than the fact that you can play day 1B if you bust day 1A, it resembles the Main in most respects. 50k starting stack compared to 60k for the Main. 1 hour levels compared to 2 hours for the Main. Very similar field size, offering the opportunity to try to run the gauntlet through the huge minefield for a massive score.

It's about the closest thing you're going to find without shelling out the $10k.

Life goals….did you do a TR? I will hopefully have time for such a trip in a few years and would be interested to know which parks you hit. My wife would love that too….not sure how dropping anchor in Vegas in June for a period to play (I’m a cash player) would go over, but I have time to figure that out.

Note: I am 70 but in decent shape but I am NOT a serious or true Hiker. Elevation doesn't affect me but I do have a fear of heights LOL. I limit my hikes to 5 - 7 miles a day unless they are very easy then Max 10. Hiking above 9,000 ft going up any hill is my max effort. Lower elevations I can manage inclines MUCH better unless steep slopes are involved. But almost all of the Parks have truly stunning drives so you don't HAVE to Hike much to see some terrific sites. I can pull these trips off for the MAYBE next couple of years so I am going to take maximum advantage of it.

We’ve been to RMN a couple years ago. Did a day around Jenny Lake at grand Teton last year and saw a grizzly from a distance (others got too close) and numerous hikes in Yellowstone, hit a spot around entire figure 8. Worth it, can see some wildlife while driving around the park. Never knew what red rock had to offer outside LV until 2 years ago, only took 40 trips to dim city to finally make it there.

Hoping to retire/work less in a couple years and travel with the Mrs and a hiking trek sounds great.

I have been going to LV since 1985 and playing in the WSOP off and on since 2006. Last year was the first time I drove.... I may never fly again :-) I normally rented a car anyway as I like my freedom and getting away from the poker table typically helps my game. But the National Parks have just made my yearning for the WSOP each year even MORE so. The Hotels around the Parks cost me a LOT more than I spend for 20 days at the Horseshoe and worth every penny for the beauty and tranquility (in general) the National Parks provide ( Early in the Day and late when the crowds are lower) and mid day is helped by the hikes. Around LV try Mount Charleston, Nevada (Spring Mountain) Red Rock, or Valley of Fire (but do that EARLY in the day and take Water ) July in LV is BRUTAL so be extremely careful on any hikes and HYDRATE before you begin..... by the time you realize you are thirsty its to late.

Being able to get to your room at the breaks for me makes the horseshoe a must? As if you stay in another hotel on the strip what do you do during a 14hr day?

At Caesars properties you save a ton of money by booking in 10 day intervals away for 48-72 hrs then book another 10 days because you get comped free days depending upon your Card status (Diamond, Platinum, etc) for each 10 day Max stay. Rates have already increased 60 % from when I booked in October . Somehow get to Diamond status to avoid resort and valet fees. There is an entire thread on the issue or if you can qualify join founderscard and get Diamond status thru them.

I don't know if I made a mistake when I booked Horseshoe for the WSOP more than a month ago or not. I didn't use a promo code. I discovered that the promo code WSOP24 is now working anyway. Was it not active more than a month ago or did I just not think of entering it? Anyway, it works now and I rebooked for a decent savings. I don't have any exalted Caesars Total Rewards status to get me slick deals.

Wow. Four weeks of poker? I am envious. I am also old. I don't think I could survive that.

Just keep checking online and also call the Horseshoe direct. If the rates change in your favor it's simple to rebook and then cancel the original stay. Calling direct on occasion has let me work with a human and they have dug up a better deal for me. Good luck. We may spend Thousands on Tournament entries but there is ZERO reason to not get the best hotel deal possible unless you are made of money.

Just booked a Versailles King at Paris for June 5-13 for $184 all in.

Holy Crap that is fantastic. What card level are you ? I just checked online as a Diamond at Paris and for a Versailles King it would be $1,170. I can get a burgundy for $445 for those dates But that is just a Wonderful rate. Congrats. How did you do it ?

I'm also Diamond. Not really sure why I get certain rates ha. I can usually do better than my wife in Vegas, but she was able to get comps at Caesars New Orleans and I could not. I'm Diamond via Wyndham match. I earned about 12k tier credits last year, and usually play video poker in the $3.50-$7.50 a spin range.
