I'm guessing they'll drop some of the major event dates during WSOP-P, which seems doomed to be a train wreck.

I don't have major wishes or suggestions for WSOP24. Considering the scale of the event, I actually think WSOP does a good job in general. The events usually run without too many logistical issues and the schedule has a good mix of variants at different budgets. Any gaps in the WSOP schedule can usually be filled by something at Wynn/Venetian/Aria/Orleans/etc. There aren't many days where I can't find something good to play.

I suppose I'd like to see more/better satellite options now that the STTs are dead, but I don't expect that to happen. Live satellites are tough due to inconsistent demand and low profitability. I'd say more online satties are needed, but WSOP.com just doesn't get the traffic that you'd see on PokerStars back in the day. I'm not sure the player pool is big enough to sustain a huge number of satellite offerings.

I guess if we're talking long-term changes, we can discuss the $10k entry fee for the Main and whether it should finally be increased. IMO the size of the player pool has gotten stupid and turned the event into a massive lottery. However, I think they're also afraid to change it since it's their marquee event. There are plenty of high roller tournaments throughout the year to scratch the itch for people who just want to watch the "best of the best". Those are the spiritual successor of the original WSOP Main, which was a prestigious, high stakes, small field event. Now the Main Event is kind of like the high stakes equivalent of the $11 PokerStars Sunday lotto. Insane field size with crazy payouts at the top, but a bit clowny and unserious. It's a farce as a "world championship", but still a compelling spectacle.

Yeah, but it is still what every recreational player aspires to. I hope this is the year I get to play it. Don't have that many years left.

I am wondering about the Million Dollar Bounty tournament in 2024. I know they like to bracket the weekends for these high attendance events so they can maximize room revenue, charging premium for Fri and Sat nights. In 2023 Flight 3A for this bounty was on Weds 5/31, putting flights 3C/3D on 6/02, 6/03 Fri and Sat. In 2024 06/01 is a Saturday. If that were 3D, like last year's Sat was then 3A would have to be on May 29 ... but isn't that earlier than they've ever started an open-to-the-public tournament? My conclusion is that we should not expect the Million Dollar Bounty the first weekend. Comments?

Not certain about this--but the WSOP will likely start earlier in 2024, as memorial day is earlier in 2024 than most recent years.

So it would map out:
-The employees event on that first tuesday after Memorial Day, May 28th.
-TOC and likely 1500 dealers choice on Wednesday the 29th. along with a mystery bounty flight.
-so on and so forth.

Excellent observation. Yes I see now that Memorial day is Monday May 27th in '24 vs May 29th in '23. I might use your insight to make hotel reservations. Well done.

Good observation.

But in past they have made some adjustments too.

2015 Memorial Day was 25th.

The 2015 WSOP event 1 was on Wednesday 27th .

It shouldn't be long before the WSOP posts a very preliminary schedule of notable events. Last Year they did so on Dec 12th, the 2nd Monday. That should ramp up interest big-time.

Anyone Thinking of the WSOP 2024 Yet?

I’m struggling to think of anything else. Booked June 23 to July 5. Looking to also do a week right at the beginning of the Series, prob May 29 to June 6, stopping en route in California to pick up a couple of games on the Yankees’ West Coast road trip.

Hopefully there will be some announcements soon with the headline events so that we can all start finalising travel plans.

From what I’ve noticed to date, midweek hotel prices at the moment are significantly reduced from 2023 levels. I’ve so far booked 5 nights, June 30th to July 5th at Harrahs for $68/night including resort fee and all taxes; no rewards, discounts or comps - that was retail price on Expedia.

Can't say definitively but I suspect the 10k for the Main is, in part, a function of the IRS recordkeeping necessary for cash transactions. Go over 10k and all cash transactions will trigger form 8300 requirements. I can't imagine they want that.

I am sure that they also like big field events in order to rake in hotel revenue. Some pro's want to see it bumped up. I sure don't.

Yes the WSOP gets under your skin once you've been going for a while.
I book super early every year and stayed at RIO for years (2006 it was a great hotel by 2020 it was pretty much a dive ) Stay at the Horseshoe now
currently booked from 6/18 thru 7/11 with a 3 day break in the middle to maximize my comp days. Total cost (so far) $590 for 20 nights (I'm Diamond so no resort fees or valet charge) that is actually more than I paid last year for a similar stay but not significantly. If the WSOP schedule is close to the last several years I will be able to play the majority of events that I target during this time frame. Secret has been for many years now to BOOK EARLY and continue to check the online pricing. Caesars always allows you to cancel and rebook at a lower rate if it becomes available and you can also do this directly by contacting the Horseshoe Can't stress enough to BOOK NOW YOU CAN ALWAYS CANCEL or change once the actual schedule comes out if you require different dates. Remember you have 6 months to build your bankrolls locally for the poker players Disneyworld.

I agree with booking early and I will stay at the Horseshoe too. When it was at the Rio I most often stayed at the Gold Coast. That place was clean and comfortable and had good places to eat. TGIF was great for breakfast. Can someone please explain how you get to Diamond status? BTW, I once tried to get the Caesars Credit Card in order to get free parking at then Ballys/Paris. Their schlock bank turned me down for low credit score which was completely bogus. I've always had excellent credit.

Probably just like last year, the weekend before the Main Event starts.
I doubt there will be any major changes to the 2024 schedule except for some tweaks to starting stacks and levels for a few of the low buy in events. They got a bit lengthy in my opinion.

There should be a press release about the 2024 WSOP after the WSOP Paradise ends and before Christmas. It will announce the starting and ending dates for the WSOP, the schedule for the big weekend NLHE events, the senior's event, and the Main Event.

Here are the most relevant parts of the news they dropped today:

https://www.wsop.com/news/2023/Dec/1...2024-WSOP.html

Quote:
The 2024 WSOP will take place at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas from May 28 to July 17, 2024, with the Main Event running from July 3 to July 17. The Main Event – poker’s undisputed freezeout world championship – will have four starting days, beginning on Wednesday, July 3. Players may also register directly on Day 2 on July 7 and 8.

The full daily event schedule for the 55th annual WSOP will be announced in early 2024. Fan favorites, including the Mystery Millions, Millionaire Maker, and the Senior’s Championship, will return to the schedule in 2024.
Main Event 7/3-7/17.

As far as I can tell, no concrete dates yet on the other events.

No mention of what the big opener will be (i.e. Big 50, Housewarming, Gladiators).

If I had to guess, it will be the Mystery Bounty, like last year. In fact, I imagine the schedule will be very similar. My only hope is they move my favorite event (MS) off of Father’s Day weekend.

Yes, I am counting on that, the Mystery Bounty early. I've already made my hotel reservation for that. My guess that the WSOP would start on May 28th was verified. I also plan on playing the Monster Stack. I wonder if they will make us wait until January for a preliminary schedule giving the dates for these two tournaments.

Comenity Bank which is now part of Bread Financial are a POS but I would try again on your application. I've paid for my room the last two years with points I earned just using my Caesars Reward CC. As to how to get Diamond - obvious answer gamble a lot - HOWEVER I am a poker player so I could never get Diamond even with my WSOP entries and cheap ass video poker play. I joined FOUNDERS CARD as one of their benefits of membership is a guaranteed CAESARS DIAMOND STATUS. Now Founders can be picky in who they accept but its worth the $200 or so annual cost since get no resort fees (45 per night) and no valet parking costs. Stay 4 days and you have saved MORE than enough to pay the fee to Founderscard. Also as Diamond you get VIP line status for all WSOP buy ins and that is worth its weight in gold to me. Here is a link (full disclosure I get FC points if you use it as a referral bonus) https://founderscard.com/membership?code=FCPAT259

I'll have to look into that Founders Card deal. Not long after Comenity Bank rejected my application, citing a bogus poor Credit score, an attempt at identity theft was made against me. Someone tried to open a Bank of America CC in my name. Pure coincidence after I supplied Comenity with all my sensitive information? I doubt it. I'd be a fool to trust Comenity again.

I have diamond through my Wyndham Business Earners credit card. If you don’t own a business, starting an LLC is pretty cheap and easy depending on what state you’re in. So one option is to start a small business, maybe just buying and selling on eBay or whatever, and applying for the Wyndham business card. I think there’s a $99 annual fee which is significantly lower than founders card.

I’m not going to speak to specific loopholes, but starting a business in order to get a credit card, in order to get a diamond card sounds straight up crazy to me. And mind you, just having a business can cost upwards of a thousand dollars a year in excise taxes/fees, depending on state you incorporate in.

Not surprised. Comenity bank, and the Caesar’s Rewards Card it backs, are pretty low-rated by consumers.

I don’t personally do this as I have a legit business but I’ve heard of others doing it, again, depending on what state they’re in. I’m in California and it would be pretty foolish to do that here since LLCs have an $800/year minimum tax. But it could make total sense in other states.
