Thinly disguised brag:

Won my ME seat and would prefer to play day 1C or D. Anyone heard if those days are close to selling out?

[ ] want to call WSOP cage to find out.

As of 7 pm Sunday (today), they had plenty of seats. So far (this from memory but should be close)

150 registered for day 1A
150 day 1B
200 day 1C
750 day 1D

Should it be a problem to sign up for day 1c on day 1b?

I don't see how the WSOP could sell-out this year. With the Pavillion being used, the Rio must have more than twice as many tables as last year.

I seriously doubt they will either. They found room for all 3100+ entrants into the seniors event this year.

Thanks all. Didn't realize they had all the extra space this year. I'm not coming in until the 7th so I was wondering whether to wire/prereg or just bring cash/chips.

I prereg'd for Day 1C but looking at those numbers above I'd say there's no way they'd sell out a day before. Preregistration closes 2 weeks before the event so it's pretty much closed now I assume.

Pre-registration closed on Monday for the Main Event. With the numbers given earlier in the thread, they may "close" day 1d registration temporarily until the other days are evened up.

I will call the rio to verify this, but. I wired 10k yesterday for the ME, but did not get my confirmation in time to send the pre-registratoin form.

So my question, will my 10k be there when I arrive and I will just be able to register the day before?

Yeah, I want to wire the money from Canada so I don't have to carry the $10K + across the border. I should arrive on sunday so I'd be fine with 1C. I heard it was really soft last year. But can I wire it now that pre-reg is closed?
(thanks to Kevmeth for the "crosssing the border with $10K+" link)

You may want to contact the Rio and ask about wiring money, then using that money to buy into the ME.

Just a quick bit of critical info. For those that have twitter, this comes from the "WSOP" twitter account:

Note that pre-registration is officially closed for WSOP Main Event. This means you have to register @RioVegas from this point forward.#WSOP

There are still seats for all days of WSOP Main Event, but know that it won't be too long before certain starting days are shut off. #WSOP

Shutting off days for WSOP Main Event is to balance field sizes for all starting days. Some days may re-open but it's not guaranteed. #WSOP

What we're saying is, if there's a particular day you want to start the WSOP Main Event on (July 5, 6, 7 or 8) then u need 2 get 2 Rio cage.

Also, don't forget that Days 1A & 1C will join together to form Day 2A. Then, Days 1B & 1D will combine for Day 2B. We'll see you soon!

@GregFBT No sir. Days 1A & 1C are combining this year. To better help with balancing because typically days C & D are the heaviest.

One of the interesting things to me in here was that Day 2A = 1A + 1C (NOT 1A + 1B like last year was)

I dont see that posted anywhere on their site, so some people may be making assumptions. Just wanted to clear it up.

DK

It's on the structure sheet for the Main Event, and there's plenty of people who think the 1a+1c/1b+1d idea is dumb.

However, the more people that know about it, the better.

fwiw, I called today and they said that registration for 1D is closed until further notice. Guess they closed it in 2008, but didn't last year and it ended up being a clusterf*@# of a day 1D with some people getting screwed.

anyway, numbers they gave me currently are: 1a-329 1b-307 1c-529 1d-987
I'm assuming they'll re-open 1D late for last minute entries...but what do I know?...

So are they filling the amazon room first? Cause I got Amazon Blue high number something for 1A

The Amazon room should be sufficient for the entire event. I don't think there will be spillover into other rooms if they balance the four Day 1s.

Isn't the Amazon Room where it was held last year? I thought they had a new bigger room this year. I've never been there so I don't know. Is the big new room the Pavillion? I'm confused

The big room is the Pavillion, new to the WSOP.

yeah but I assumed they fill that room first and any extra go in the Amazon Room. Is that not the case?

Seems this thread had more legs than I thought. Now I'm glad that I will be in Vegas early on the 7th for the remote chance that 1D is closed for good.

As for why 1D is preferred? It's simple for a lot of donkeys like me who need to avoid missing as few days of the real job as possible.

Anyone know what the max capacity is per day? Not that it means much- last year it was supposedly 3000 per day but then turned into 2700 when they decided to do the lockout. Oh such happy memories of the Pavilion last year listening to Jeffrey Pollack spout the Harrahs corporate line about why they couldn't rectify the problem and play a day 1e.

what do you mean closed for good? obviously it will be open on the day (or at least reopened on the day) until they fill the 3500 seats or whatever they have if they need to

I just got back from registering. When I got there, they told me that they had temporarily closed day 1a, 1c, and 1d and that the only seat I could buy was for day 1b. They told me if I wanted to play day 1a that I'd have to come back 'later' when more seats opened up after day 1b had evened up.

This seemed rediculous to me, as I was there at 2am and there was no way day 1b was going to even up in the next few hours. How could they stop selling seats for day 1a before capacity when the tournament starts in 10 hours?

I asked for a supervisor and after some persuading got her to call Jack Effel who eventually gave the go-ahead to sell us seats for day 1a.

The whole process took about half an hour and was very annoying but I'll be there at noon today like I wanted.

Gl to all who are playing.
