Stuff like:
Do they have proper airfilters in the poker rooms?
Will they allow anyone in or just vaccinated people or people with negative tests?
Also, if there's a doctor in here, the million dollar question:
If you are fully vaccinated, and wearing a mask during play, how much would you estimate the risk of still catching covid? knowing that this damn delta variant seems to be extremely contagious
Any other info would be appreciated, since Im hesitating to book flight and accommodation before I can know for sure it won't be a disaster having so many people in the same card room..
Thanks
I believe specific protocols will be determined closer to the event and will be driven by conditions at that time and state regulations. At this moment, masks are not required if you are fully vaccinated, but its on the honor system. They do not ask for proof of vaccination. When I was in Vegas a few weeks ago, probably something like 20% of people I saw wore masks indoors. Probably somewhat less than that at the poker tables. Some dealers wore masks but it was not required. Assumedly those that did not were fully vaccinated.
I think they have taken down all plexiglass at poker tables and most plexiglass at other gaming tables. Other than increased sanitization efforts, like cleaning railings when players are eliminated, I'm not aware of any other significant measures still in place. For example, in March, hotels checked temperatures at entry points and required players to sanitize prior to sitting at the table. In June these requirements were no longer in place because of changes in state regulations.
As for air filtration, the only place I found info was on the Venetion website:
https://www.venetian.com/resort/venetian-clean.html
Haven't heard anything about the RIO convention spaces and increased air-handling or filtration.
When I was there things really seemed to be back to normal. There were some hassles because of decreased staffing and supply chain disruptions, but hopefully these things improve in the coming months. I suppose there is no guarantee.
But I would expect the scene to be more or less like normal come October. Fingers crossed. Make of that what you will and just do what you feel comfortable doing.
