I haven't been to Vegas since 2009, where I stayed at the Rio for my first time. The property is not convenient to anything else on the Strip, so if you're planning to do more than just attend WSOP events or cash games, it may not be ideal.

Also, it smelled, bad. My previous experience had been in 2007 when I stayed in a Jr Suite at Harrahs on the strip. The property was older, but very convenient to check out other rooms within walking distance.

I always stay at the Rio during WSOP but really it is because I grind non-stop and doesn't venture out of the property. I value being able to be in my room or at the tables in less than 10 min (great for breaks and sleep schedule).

On the flip side, it is crowded and pretty depressing.

If you want to be in and out of the property or enjoy the place you stay at, I'd pick another venue.

Like everyone said before me , if the WSOP is main reason you are in Las Vegas stay at RIO by all means.

The Casino Floor has went from old to stinky old . But the Rooms and WSOP Tournaments Area is better.

If you stay anywhere els please give yourself enough time for to and from driving.

I always has car rented . I am also staying top part of my trip ( First 5 nights)this year at Rio. (As in Las Vegas casino comp room is limited to 5 nights at any properties).

I will be also staying at Gold Coast for 3 nights and back to Rio for 5 nights.

I mean the hotel itself, particularly getting to the rooms and the rooms themselves.

I'm going in November (just after the main, sadly) and the Rio is 59/night before fees during the weekdays.

Are there still free shuttles between Harrah's properties? It's been awhile since I've been to Rio (5+ years) and I imagine they're unreliable for timing, but if I can save some $$$ on Ubers :shrug:

The Rio is cheap with large rooms and a refrigerator. Its a reasonable home base if you have a car.

I personally prefer staying downtown because it's a great place to drown the pain of busting out of a tournament in alcohol.

I used to prefer downtown because I like the old Vegas vibe. But they got rid of that with slotzilla, allowing naked homeless men to stand there begging for change, and now the smell of skunky marijuana everywhere you go.

It’s complete disgusting trash now, IMO. They ruined it.

Heading out Friday 10/22 thru Sat 11/06. The one good thing about the pandemic is I’ve been able to work remotely from almost anywhere since March of 2020, with no sign of really ever needing to go back into the office.

Will stay at Rio for the first week with a buddy then at Caesars when my wife gets there for the 2nd week.

Other than playing four Venetian DS tournaments (two in Sep and two in Mar), like many other folks, there just aren’t any tournaments locally or really even within a few hours by car

Hi guys, quick question from a first timer going to wsop. Let's say you wanted to play event #63 and event #65, event 63 starts the 2nd and lasts for 3 days, and event 65 starts the 3rd and lasts 2 days. Does that mean that event 63 will overlap event 65, and you have no way to play both?

Some players have multi-tabled events, but without having a heap of money and/or massive bracelet bets, you're not going to want to do that.

By the time reg closes in event 65, event 63 will be deep into the money. So if you aren't able to play 65, it's because you're making an awesome run in 63.

You can multitable but can get in trouble for running or abandoning hands when it is not your turn

Yeah, if you’re going to miss one event because you’re so deep in another, that’s a good problem to have.

After reading the actual description of this event, it sounds more appealing. Maybe it's better to get it over with quickly than play for 10 hours to see if you can make a mincash. After all, 85% of players in every event will bust out for no money. No matter how good you are, you have to get lucky anyway just to mincash, might as well get lucky or not on the first hand.

Paying $110 in rake for one hand seems like a ripoff. I guess if you get lucky you get to play a soft 8k event.

If one wants to gamble there are far better options than this in the casino environment. And of course, some players want to play poker, too. So there’s that.

I can't think of any. If you make it, you still have potential to win many thousands more, with no additional money risk to you.

It is clearly a gimmick event. Some will like it and some will just roll their eyes - to each his own.

I remember a few years back a "50 / 50" event where half the field cashed. What an awful payout as a min-cash meant you lost $$$ but got recorded in Hendon. The FT payouts were terrible. Don't think it ran more than once.

Any information when the structure sheets for all the events will be posted online ?

I'll speculate structure sheets by July 6.

In prior years once the WSOP schedule was announced multiple other casino's would release their own complimentary tourney action / events. I am aware that PH is no more and the Nugget ends 10/18 and I may have missed it but I have not seen any other of the typical Casino's showing a Tourney schedule in October ? Just not available yet ? Not going to be doing so ? Or am I just to early in my expectations? Or did I just miss it ?

The Venetian runs their deep stack extravaganza series and such so often that I can’t imagine there not being one at this same time. Probably Wynn will have something in the fall too. They typically do at this time.

I wonder about the whole PH thing. That stinks the poker room is going away but are we 100% certain they will do away with their PH series too? Thought I saw Chris’s Twitter handle say something like ‘free agent’ so maybe that’s the sign.

I was told by a TD in another casino that the pandemic pretty much ended PH’s run. All of the individuals who were responsible for running the tournaments there were let go. He was pretty sure that their series would not be coming back. I guess anything is possible and certainly one TD telling me this may not know everything but he definitely knew more than what’s been communicated here. I would bet money that it’s not coming back.
