You see a hundred people moving down the hall. How do you know who's a spectator and who's a player?

Right exactly, i highly doubt there are people randomly asking for proof of vaccination in the halls or anywhere. The only place you will be asked is signing up for your first tournament or cash game imo. The temp scans wont but they are mostly for appearance sake to look like they are complying. They may have nothing set up at the entrances also, who knows.

By declaring mandatory vaccination WSOP has risked lower attendance and backlash from many players.

After thoughtfully considering all the effects WSOP went through this (My guess) . I don’t think they will jeopardize all this by not enforcing this with next to 100% efficient way .

I think when you get verified ,you will get a verified band or scan pass or something with misuse penalties or something.(Again this is my guess !.IMO this will be ideal way of going seamless after verification)

I’m sure they’ll check everyone’s status at registration and give out a daily wrist band to all who are cleared.

Spectators will be more interesting. I suspect they’ll have tents and/or EZ-Ups set up right outside the main doors and funnel people without wrist bands through them. They’ll need to prove status to get a wrist band and enter.

I know wrist bands might seem a little old school in this digital age but it’d be cheaper and easier than quickly making some sort of digital verification and has the added bonus of assuring others at the table that their opponents have been properly vetted.

But I would certainly anticipate staff working the doors all series long now.

On the website, it says this about spectators:

If you only have to get vaccine verification once, I don't see how daily wristbands will work, especially considering people register for events days and even weeks ahead of time. A one-time wristband might be possible, but then how effective is it really? And who is going to want to wear a wristband for weeks?

I brought up many of these logistical issues when the vaccine mandate was just a possibility. I still have no idea how they will pull it off, but the time is nearing when we will all find out.

I expect it to be a complete cluster F the first week until the staff gets a handle on all of the new rules and knowing how poker players just love to be told what to do the participants won't be making the situation any less confrontational. Hope I am just being pessimistic and not realistic.

When you download the CLEAR app and get it set up, it will generate a QR code good for a short interval (15 minutes, IIRC).

I'm guessing that Rio is expecting to set up QR scanners at the entrances, kinda like when you go through security at the airport and have your boarding pass on your phone.

Poker players are well-known for doing things in an orderly and timely fashion. Also CET is famous for being on-the-ball with tech. So, I'm sure it will be smooth, painless, and walk-through entry.

Or, it could degenerate into a huge cluster**** when the systems don't respond/crash.

Except clear is not the only method of verification. My personal belief is that most players will not use clear, but I don’t know. In any case, by allowing multiple forms of verification, it seems unlikely they will have a high-tech solution. My guess is they’ll do a hand stamp for each event to prevent massive backups at the entrances.

Isn’t the WSOP encouraging people to use clear? Even if there are other methods, I would think most players would use what the WSOP recommends just to avoid potential problems.

They can't do event hand stamps. What if someone wants to play cash games, or satellites, or Daily Deepstacks. They might decide to play something else after finishing one game, or tournament. Obviously won't work for spectators.

Some people don't like the idea of handing over personal medical information to a corporation.

The Clear app seems like a money grab to me. I didn't feel like giving them my details, my medical records, etc., for when the inevitable data breech occurs. I plan to register at the WSOP using my paper vaccine cards.

(I have two because I assumed the first one was some kind of receipt and didn't bring it back with me when I went for the second shot. I wish I had glanced at it instead of tossing it in a drawer without even looking!)

The stamp works the same as the bracelet except it costs less and is not transferable. And on second thought, the stamp would be for the day, not for an event. But I still think it would be a logistical nightmare and am more inclined to believe the WSOP will do very little in the way of crowd/room control. I don’t believe the WSOP has said a whole lot about protecting the premises against unvaccinated people other than requiring vaccination to play. In that regard they’ve already gone beyond what most large gatherings are doing at this time.

In other news Covid cases/hospitalizations/deaths continue to fall in LV. I’m going to give the WSOP the benefit of the doubt and assume they chose this time of year for the event on purpose. Had they held this during the summer or later this winter I don’t think the picture would be as rosy and they would probably be under more pressure to enforce stricter policies and/or have a smaller event, if one at all.

Lots of major hospitals and event venues require the app at this point, even if you have your vaccine card on you

I know WSOP doesn’t say CLEAR app is the only one to verify your vaccination status , it says .. “ WSOP staff urges all US based entrants to use CLEAR's Health Pass. This service is easy and free to the player..….or …... digital or hard copy of CDC records with passport or driver’s licenses. “

What I heard that if you have hard copy or digital copy they will with your consent form signed , will verify through Clear by the time of the tournament reached to cashing status.

They are limiting spectators and requiring them to go to a special room to get verified, if they even allow them.

In theory, they should be limiting access. Many conferences have participants carrying passes to gain entry to various parts. The WSOP could do the same. Ideally, they should put your picture on it so people can't just be passing them around.

Considering how difficult a time the WSOP has verifying Credit cards this seems like a very far-fetched idea. But I guess we’ll see what they have in mind soon.

That's bad. They're essentially requiring you to have a smart phone.

85% of US adults have a smart phone, and I’m guessing very few of the other 15% aren’t likely attendees of wsop.

EXACTLY what does CLEAR APP do ? Does the application "verify" the authenticity of your vaccination status ? Are you required to allow access to your Medical information in the App's "allow/deny" Q and A. Is it anything more than a Picture of you and your CDC Card ? Can access specific to the vaccination be assured and nothing else ? Trust me I have tried to find these types of answers but been basically unsuccessful. Personally I am ALWAYS concerned with any information I provide being hacked or misused in some manner (thats just me). But this is a serious inquiry not trying to start a fight about information rights and I want to be able to make an informed choice on the issue.
