Is it really a guarantee if they can change it whenever they want?

Yes, they have lawyers for that.

And always in T&C beforehand: "Casino reserves the right to modify or cancel this Tournament at any time, for any reason, subject to regulatory approval, if applicable."

To me there is just more to existence than breathing so if I have to put up with the minor inconvenience of a mask to take part in something I enjoy then so be it............ been doing it at work basically the entire time so its pretty much old hat to me anyway. I respect COVID but have no fear of it. Being 68 how many WSOP's do I have left ? I'd like to think 7 or truly pushing it maybe 12. I will pay the elevated room rates, Car Rental rates, and put on a mask if that's what it takes. If the fields are smaller and tougher without the other REC players - okay. I prefer the biggest field possible because it dilutes the competition and slightly increases my EV but off and on over the years I have played with some of the biggest names and while I prefer a soft table I just enjoy the experience and try to learn from watching the top dogs style and approach.
My first WSOP was when the entire thing was held in the Amazon room, so you pretty much couldn't go 20 feet without running into someone tv famous. These days you're lucky to run into someone you just barely heard of in Card Player, although I did sit to the left of Kelly Minkin in a satty a couple years ago.

By far the most interesting tournament experience I've had watching another player was a $10k WPT, where I was just a spectator. The guy was a traveling pro from the east coast (I hear him talking to his parents during breaks), and sitting in a spot I could easily see his hole cards because he peeked too high. What an insight! I watched him for about an hour.

Pig LOL boy that is the truth - “TV Famous” – how fitting – My own first WSOP 2006 (post ME) I played with Mike “the mouth” Matusow (a complete vulgar dick at that time with a big rail following until he busted late day 1) and JC Tran all day (a gentlemen) and had Phil Helmuth and Steve Dannemann at the table behind me and the old time British pro Mel Judah (sour) late in day 2 as well as Ralph Perry (quiet) . Since those days probably the best known “names” have been Hoyt Corkins and a truly pleasant “Johnny Bax” / Cliff Josephy that I sat next to until he busted in the Senior event in 2018(?). When I called him Jonny Bax – he just laughed and said “well I used to be” Probably countless internet whizzes and several bracelet winners who’s names escape me.

Matusow was a total ******* (but to be fair that was in his nose candy days) and 2006 was the year they banned the “F” word so Mike literally screamed almost every possible obscenity known to man OTHER than F and was warned by the floor at least twice to tone it down. He also gave Phil Helmuth at the next table an incredible amount of **** in a never ending diatribe………. Much to Phil’s credit he took the abuse for a couple hours before he finally actually nicely asked Mike to layoff (which surprisingly Mike did) but only to amp up his abuse to players at our table. I was never so happy as when the guy next to me (who ended up winning the event ) busted Mike when Matusow shoved a bad bluff at him and it got snapped off.

My first year to see some of the WSOP (and first trip to Vegas) was 2003. At that time, the WSOP was in the spring, which coincided with my birthday. At that time, it was still upstairs at Binion's.

Like pig said, couldn't hardly spit without seeing a known player. Oh look, there's TJ Cloutier...there's Phil Hellmuth...

The closest thing I have to an interesting story is a couple years ago, I was playing in the Seniors event. A while after starting, a older gent walks up to the open seat and gives the dealer his ticket and player's card.

Dealer says he needs a picture ID.

Guy points up to his banner hanging from the ceiling. Turns out it was Berry Johnston, 1986 ME champion.

Hell of a way to break your Live play Cherry ! Must have been awesome and awestruck at the same time.

Hope you did better than I did in the Main Event that year (my one and only time for the ME ) I got knocked out day 2 . Much of the above story was from the $1500 following the ME start (event 37 ?) I still try and play 2 or 3 events at least every other year and fill in with other LV tourney's that run concurrent with the WSOP events. This year no one has set up any complimentary tourneys so it may be all WSOP - possibly 4 events depending on my run.

It was as bad as it could be ! It may be my lack of experience. I won a free seat give away by playing fantasy league tournament by Bluff magazine. Great experience and made me learn the game .
Since 2006 I played smaller tournaments every year ($500 to $1500 buy ins.) I am 72 so like you said not many years left I can do this on my own ( Travell , Drive,Play 12/14 hours a day etc) so decided to play ME this year. . Let’s see how it goes,

I've encountered Matusow a few times in recent years, and he was much more cordial. Once was when I was having a conversation with Greg Raymer, so maybe he was on best behavior because of that.

They were so much more entertaining then. Like watching Doyle and Amarillo Slim racing each other on Rascals up and down the hallway.

There will be.

During the fall WSOP anticipate these other series:

Golden Nugget Grand series
Orleans Fall Series
Venetian DeepStack Series
Wynn Fall Classic
And rumor Bally's will host series in place of PH being out.

I keep getting in **** trying to get the 30k i wanted for WSOP 2021. I drove water truck on the rigs for two months, then quit. I could get a bad interest 10k credit card and go for a weekend. If people want to drink and play PLO against me, LMAO. They'll learn to fold. Plus 500 for 5 million?!!?

Don't know, likely schedules come in August.

Reasons for delay, WSOP schedule was released late and other series have to plan accordingly. Also casino tournament directors were waiting for their big summer series to conclude before focusing on the next one.

I probably will be cheering for you from the cheap seats. I allocate $7K - $10K buy ins for events in the 10 days I attend the WSOP running starting with the Senior. If I get hit with the deck I might parlay it into the ME. I also need the break from the grind days myself. and take a day off and just play tourist and do a old man hike thru Red Rock, Mt Charleston, or Valley of Fire (neat place) . At 68 I'm no pup and since I still work that's about all the time I can easily do. Again looking for fill in events at other Casino's when they finally get released.

Casinos won't close just as businesses will not be taking another break for a quarantine. Bottom line the economy can't afford it. Not saying they wouldn't cancel the series if things got considerably worse but casinos will not be closing.

Guys be smart ,depending on the situation state and federal guidelines anything can happens. Keep your fingers crossed.

If WSOP has only limited options what they will do?
What you will do ?

Cancel/ Postpone the event
Or
Tournament for vaccinated only.

Not trying to scare anyone. But possibilities are there .

Someone pointed out in another thread that the WSOP Twitter feed just unstickied the tweet they had about the schedule this year and replaced it with one on sports betting.

Hopefully it was just an oversight or they just wanted something new and not a precursor to an impending announcement…

As I mentioned in the other thread about that, Every Caesar's property was promoting that on their twitter yesterday, so WSOP switching the pinned message isn't a big deal.

I'm really disappointed and angry that all the deciders for themselves have made it a distinctly nonzero possibility that the WSOP won't happen. I was looking forward to it.

Another nonzero possibility is that Vegas will continue to be a simmering vat of infections by then but the casinos will pretend that it's no big deal. All those people milling around in the big main room...ideal environment for transmission. It would only be safe if we had a lot higher vaccination rate than we do now.

I wonder if the Rio is even briefly considering proof of vaccination as a requirement for play. Probably not, as everyone would start screaming about their FREEDUMB.
I think you misunderstood the essence of my post. We subscribe same thinking but we have a different way of communicating (:

There are two possibilities.

1, WSOP make vaccination mandatory. Players with vaccination will have no decision to make . Players without vaccination have to make decision if they want to get vaccinated or stay home (every individual have to make their own decisions)

2. WSOP for whatever reason don’t make vaccinations mandatory. All the players without vaccinations will go without any thoughts. But players with vaccinations will have to make decisions. Some will go , some will stay home . ( Again you have to make your decision)

If you really think this why would you even consider playing ? The vaccination rate will continue to climb albeit slowly. You almost assuredly have been vaccinated so the odds of you being infected if exposed vary by source but are a relative known %. The range of impact to a vaccinated person contracting the virus is also a known %. You know the ranges, you know the %, you know your own risk tolerance. Simple equation. CET and the WSOP will do whatever they believe is in their own best interest weighing PR and Corp image and Profit. They could "ban" cloth masks and require NK95 or better, they could require vaccinations, they could reinstall plexiglass dividers etc but get realistic. Do you think they can actually enforce those standards ? That fake cards won't be prolific, that people will wear bandana's. If you want to assure your own personal safety play the WSOP Online would be my suggestion.
