What else are you looking for? They have the Razz, 2-7 (including NL version) and triple-draw in there now at the $1500 price point (which is where they have typically been placed).

wrt: Colossal, remember that when it debuted, it was the first bracelet event other than the employee event for under $1000. It was also hinted that it might just be held the one time. This brought out droves of people that had never played in the WSOP before, and tbh, never played in a tournament before. First hand, with 100/200 blinds, a guy open raises to 1200. And got 4 callers. With that stuff going on, your big starting stack shrinks considerably.

It seems like with the novelty of the tournament worn off a little, it could be playable these days. IME the events < $1k still have a lot of goofy play in them (I don't want to remember the $600 big stack event I played in) but not nearly as nuts as the first Colossal.

I played 4 events last year:

$1k NLHE (event 28)
$600 Deep Stack NLHE
$400 Colossus NLHE (2x flights)

My take: The $1k had more of a "prestigious" feel. I had some name pros at my table throughout the day. The level of play was pretty decent, though there was still some value on the tables (I was probably part of the value, but definitely not the worst). In a higher buy-in, you're generally going to get more play in terms of stack size and level length.

I ran terribad in the $600 and just really didn't have much fun with that one.

The Colossus was a **** show on both days. From a value standpoint, it's going to be hard to beat. There are some absolutely awful players in there. I saw some play at my tables that was straight out of 1995. Just mind-boggling stuff. After a while, the clowns bust out and it becomes a more standard MTT. The sheer scope and scale of it is part of the appeal, and also one of the drawbacks. I got moved 3-4 times within a couple hours, and was at one point playing in the bowling alley. I also didn't like that the constant rebuys and late reg meant people were jumping in with flipping stacks DEEEEP into the first day. It may or may not be +EV, but I think it just increases the short-term variance because it creates more inflection points where you need to run good, and it decreases the "serious" or prestigious feel of the event.

So basically, if you want the most EV and the biggest spectacle, jump into the cheapest events. If you want a more authentic "pro" feel, you're going to want to seek out a bigger buy-in.

This year I've been playing less poker in general, so I'm only coming out for five nights. I'm going to hit the $500 freezout on 6/15 and maybe the $800 on 6/14 as well if I feel like going bigger. Then I'll probably just hit the daily deep stacks and/or other stuff around in the $200-400 range.

I've given serious consideration to late-regging anything I play this year < $1k. Come in maybe 3rd or 4th level. Hopefully the goofball density would be reduced a bit.

So you are hoping to come in after the bad players have given their chips to the good players?

Exploiting good players is good for the poker economy long term, if you only exploit bad players there will be no money left.

theyve changed all the plo tourneys to 8 handed. was always 10 handed before.

that'll kill the "late reg, win 1 hand, then fold to the money" strategy that worked in the $500 doublestack the past few years.

1k plo is only 40 minute levels day 1 instead of 60 minute like last year for day 1. lame.

First post here, and also, first time going to the WSOP.
I actually don't specifically go for the WSOP, but I will be in Vegas around that time, as a poker player, I cannot NOT participate in at least one tournament!

However, my time is limited. I will arrive on May 27th, which is perfect, since a 1k starts that day!

Here's my question, how long does this tournament usually last?

Yup, it says 2 days on the schedule. It might end up being one of the easier NLHE events to win a bracelet in, being the earliest.

Awesome, I will only be in Vegas for 4-5 days, so it's the perfect event to play!

It's been almost two months since the first batch of events was released, I'm not sure what WSOP is trying to accomplish by doing this. Definitely not a big fan of this strategy.

Whats your guys opinion on flights / hotels. Will they get any cheaper come March/April or is the time to book NOW?

This is just my preference but I have really enjoyed booking Airbnb's over hotels the last few years. Not only are Airbnb's cheaper than hotels (incl their resorts fees) but they are also much more comfortable and spacious, along with kitchens which are great for saving money on food and being able to cook meals in advance to bring with you when you play tournaments. Avoid long waits for food and the mad rush to get back in time from breaks by having home cooked food with you in your backpack. There are a bunch of Airbnb's very close to the Rio, as in less than 1/4 to 1/2 mile, which makes walking or lyft rides very cheap if you're not going to have your personal vehicle or rental car there.

I recently moved to New Jersey and can't go to WSOP this summer. I saw that the online events came out yesterday. I also see that most of them are on Sunday. Does anyone know how long most of the 400-600 buy in events take to complete? I'll probably play a few, and was wondering if they take longer than 8 hours....

All the regular online tourneys will take much longer then 8 hours.
