Yes that is something I too could never figure out why they would overlap the two senior events. The beauty of this schedule is that if you go deep in the starting senior event you get a day to relax and get ready for the super senior if you qualify.
That mini main event really has me curious. Cant wait for the details. I sense the structure is going to suck at $1000 buyin

They’re doing a $400 Colossus in late June? I thought Big 50 was replacing it this year but I guess not. Employee event says $500 instead of $565. Wacky.

Mini main IS going to suck. 2 day tournament. The structure will probably be worse than the Daily Deepstacks.

Multiple Double Stacks, weird.

Mini Main is the exact main event start stack and structure but with 30 min levels instead of 2 hours.

This is shaping up to be a very exciting schedule.

I feel like it’s a little too gimmicky. I’m still looking forward to playing, though.

True, but the WSOP has been gimmicky for awhile now. And those types of events (Millionaire Maker, Monster Stack, et al) draw crowds and create hoopla. I don’t see many people complaining about the plethora of donks in the Colossus. 2019 WSOP schedule

I figured it might be as you stated. Did you get the info from the wsop site?

No, from an article by CardPlayer or Pocket Fives or the like, quoting WSOP officials.

I really think this year might be the best draw of all time. Many $1000 and under events that could and will have huge fields

If so it seems like they will have a hard time finishing it in 2 days, considering the Daily Deepstacks can go 16+ hours with 2000 players.

How will structures change, is the problem. Seniors is still listed as a 3-day event, still with 60-minute levels, still same field size, but with 4x the number of starting chips as in past years. Last year they went to a 4th day because they couldn't finish in 3 days. So how does the Director keep the event a 3-day event?

It’s not particularly confusing. The blind levels will, on average, be increased 4x.

Pointless to people who understand structures but I get why they do it when you have a large rube contingent that always thinks that more chips = better structure.

Colossus is 40k starting and 40 minute levels. It’ll be interesting to see if Colossus or Big 50 has a larger field. Colossus is right around the time of the $1,000 tag team so I bet that field increases significantly, as well. They’ll “set records” again this year but only because it’s cheaper than in previous years. I’ve been hearing some grumbling about how these low buyins have cheapened the significance of the series as a whole.

Big 50 will be double+ the size of Colossus this year.

Yea 3 or 4 times, agree.
It feels like with these new larger starting stacks the happy medium of beginning levels could be 75-150 rather than say 25-50, 50-100, 100-100.

Seniors
Starts 25-50 today with 5K = 100 Bigs

If starting at 75-150 with 20K players begin with 150 Bigs.
(If 100-100 that would be an increase to 200 Bigs from 100 currently)

Monster
Starts 25-50 today with 15K = 300 Bigs

If starting at 75-150 with 50K players begin with 333 Bigs.
(If 100-100 at 50K that would be 500 Bigs, up from 300 currently)

Crazy 8s
Starts 25-50 today with 8K = 160 Bigs

If starting at 75-150 with 40K players would begin with 266 Bigs.
(If 100-100 at 40K that would be 400 Bigs up from 160 currently)

That sounds in the right neighborhood. If they are doing BBA, which I hope they are, no need to do 75/150, because no need to have 25 chips. Just go 100/100, or you can have a 100/200 and then a 100/200/200, then a 200/300/300, 200/400/400, etc.

Optimally, they could use this change to start with a few less bigs, but smooth out the increases where you are a little deeper later. And the opposition will generally be distracted by the increase in the raw number you start with.

Yeah, this. People see “free rake” and will go nuts. Participants will likely need to preregister to avoid the alternate list.

So true. Expect the biggest donkfest imaginable. Geez they`ll be donking from the rafters. LMAO

Colossus will have a smaller field but mainly because of the fewer starting flights. Not to mention a lot of people will play Big 50 for the one time novelty of it. But a lot of people will be going on the cheap and $100 less for Colossus is substantial to a lot of people. Not to mention the tag team being around that time. They can get four guys entered for $250 each plus $400 each for Colossus and you’re looking at two tournaments for $650 versus one for $500. That’ll draw a large number of budget players. Big 50 will obviously be huge and have more players but I wouldn’t be surprised if Colossus has close to the same number of starting players during each flight. And the tag team numbers will go up for sure.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess field sizes for the following (by field sizes I mean total # of entries)

Big 50: 24,120 entries
Colussus: 15,450 entries

4 flights on Friday and Saturday >>>>>>>> 2 flights on Wednesday and Thursday.

I don't think most rec players care about the rakeless aspect. More chips, longer levels, bigger guarantee, more flights, weekend flights.

Colossus barely got 15k with 6 flights, being cheap will help a little but it gets maybe 8k

I agree completely........ certainly being "rakeless" is a positive marketing tool but it is not the overwhelming driver for most recreational players.

Low buy in, long levels, High starting chips are more meaningful to the successful weekend warriors. None of that is enough to draw me to the event as a stand alone but I assure you it would get me to play in it if it fit my travel schedule for the WSOP.

Right. Would love to see a poll at a random WSOPC $400 or even WSOP $1500 bracelet event and ask the players "how much is the rake in this tourney?" My guess is the answers would be something like:

Correct Amount - 10%
Incorrect Guess - 50%
"Uh, no idea" - 30%
"What is rake?" - 10%
