I wouldn't go that far. Its a very small percentage of players who re-enter more than once in most unlimited re-entry tourneys. For the rest, the penalty for playing really loose early is obviously not as great as if it were a freeze-out, but its not like people are trying to pay double (or more) the buy-in. That is decidedly negative EV.

In a perfect world, re-entries would be limited to one per starting flight. However I understand the logistical reason for not doing that. And most re-entry formats, even unlimited re-entry, are very popular. Until that ceases to be the case, I'm not sure casinos have any particularly good reason to change things.

Breaking up the 10k and 5k 6maxes is rough

I guess I'll probably play the first full week and then maybe the week after the main if I make it past day 2 or 3

Played several events at Hollywood Casino in Toledo and I witnessed an enormous amount of gambling and rebuys. I didn't do well with all the crazy all in play.

Well, that is certainly more the case for lower buy-in events. The DDS tourneys during the WSOP have their share of folks burning through cash in the first few levels.

There could also be 6-maxes elsewhere in between.

This sort of schedule will probably allow them to use a larger percentage of their space right up to the end of the series.
+1

I have only played the Main Event once (2016), and plan to play it again this year, but I was disappointed that the place was so quiet towards the end. The Little One for One Drop was the only event after the Main that year, and there was very little buzz. This schedule will be better for overseas players like myself who are planning a trip around the Main.

what were people's thoughts on the marathon last year? wondering if it's worth trying out this year.

I avoided it last year because, for me, its just too much of a grind. It doesn't reach the money till day 3 and is just too long a tourney IMO. That being said there was some discussion about it on the WSOP 2017 thread and the people who played it said they enjoyed it. I guess if I were to play only one event in vegas, and could only afford about 2.5K, then this would be a good one since it gives you the most play for that money. It's really kind of a mini-Main Event, but without the prestige and enormous prizepool.

I've kinda soured on that structure the last couple years. I'm not a huge fan of any tourney that starts with < 15K in chips no matter how long the levels are... especially multi-re-entry formats where you will have some non-insignificant portion of the field (usually with deep pockets) playing a very high variance style of poker. 10K just isn't enough to withstand early troubles very well.
Now that structures are out, this is definitely a OneDrop 1111 clone, except with unlimited re-entry. No thanks, IMO.
