What? I can civilly discuss our disagreements about structures, but that statement I can't let go.

Thousands of 22 year-old, drugged up, three-quarters naked chicks all over town? That's a final table everyone gets to sit at.

GEEZ have you viewed the trailer on the EDC site. Wow some really hot chicks. Actually looks like a blast to be there.

Historically, its been during the Seniors Event at the WSOP. I predict that attendance will be down 20% in that tourney this year.

Ya I believe if memory serves me right they are still charging enormous room rates that weekend.
Curious how you see attendance falling this year.

Sure, I would like more chips, but the WSOP has to balance many parameters so I think this is a good compromise to try in 2018. I assume we will be going to BB antes soon and they can improve structures when they go here if they desire.
I suspect that even this change will push the bubbles breaks from Day 1 level 10 into day 2 for many of the $1,000 and $1,500 buy in events. Possibly as late as level 12 for the 7,500 starting chip structures. That is good and bad from a player perspective as 1st day late play in my limited experience can get quite squirrely when fatigue and frustration set in.

The Rio is definitely charging a premium for room the Friday/Saturday of the Senior and Super Senior as it is about 25% higher than the following weekend Friday/Saturday.

The week day rates during this time period are fairly moderate as is the norm for LV.

As to attendance - Old farts might like to watch eye candy as much as any guy but if anyone thinks that the EDC is some huge ADDITIONAL draw for horny old men they are kidding themselves. LV itself is enough of a draw for skin lovers EDC is nothing more than icing on a cake. I will be glad to take the wager that attendance is over 4300 ( 80% of 2017).

While I wouldn't put it past them to jack up their rates as a result of the event being played, I would presume there's something else going on in Vegas. Have you looked at the rates of other resorts to see if they are higher that weekend?

Honestly the cost differential just is not an issue to me - the week day rates are very reasonable at the Rio and while we all like to save a buck and hate to get gouged the money isn't significant enough compared to the pure convenience of being able to take an elevator and walk to the tables instead of hassling with traffic when you stay in another resort.

If I was grinding the Tourney circuit my attitude might be different but for just a 10 day stay and 4 or 5 events the possible cost savings aren't worth my time to sweat.

Sure if u like staying in a dump, which the Rio is. I tried the "convenience" thing many times, but something nice about getting away from the madness and a bit nicer room to go back to. Helps the mentals...

Look for me to be a strong contender lol. Anyone in Jacksonville? Some nice Ring events in March.

Going to be an instant legend, been putting in too much micro work lol, eventually something else will have to bink.

If the Rio rooms are a dump they have went down hill since 2006 and 2012 which is the last time I stayed there. I've never been a huge fan of the casino itself but its better than some and worse than others. Been going to LV since 1984 and stayed at a heck of a lot of the strip Casino's - some good some dives regardless of the Marquee. I have passed on the Ultra places as I've never seen a great reason to drop $200 - $300 every night just to catch a few z's. If the room is clean , the water is hot, and the walls are not paper thin I'm fine.

As to getting away - I understand and agree with that entirely - I always rent a car and drive out to Red Rock or Mt Charleston etc to take a break at least one or two days.

I tend to go through a similar thought process each trip; the convenience of being on site is a bonus; HOWEVER, the past couple of times I made that choice, I also had the immense frustration of a total log-jam in the elevators when hundreds of players tried to get back to the tables after dinner break! It was chaos!

I’ll go ahead and say it: the biggest bonus of staying there is having your own restroom not too far away. Especially if you’re experiencing stomach issues. It’s still a long hike to the rooms, though.

I always thought the obvious play if you were playing a lot at the Rio would be to stay at the Gold Coast

It doesn't feel as obvious when it is 110 degrees outside.

This. I stayed there one year figuring I would just walk across for the events. Ended up driving to the Rio to avoid heatstroke.

I stayed there too . But either I will stay at
Rio or will prefer a decent or semi decent
Hotel on the strip.

You should be fine If you cut through the Gold Coast garage. I just needed a hat & some cold water.

I once made the dumb mistake of walking to the store up the street from Rio two blocks (felt more like 10) at high noon and got heat stroke for the rest of the day good times.

I can imagine especially when you get in that packed elevator with all the folks who consumed beans or excessive fruit.

Never been to Vegas (every year I say gotta go this June) but all these stories about the summer heat is scaring me.

Its the desert. Its really hot. I wouldn't want to get stuck out in an unshaded area for a long time. But its not really that bad. And one typically doesn't even have to be outside that long. I mean, you could walk all the way down the strip from PH to Encore (about 1.5 mi) and you'd probably only spend about 6 or 7 minutes outside.

Sorry to derail the discussion, but l just found out that Binion' s summer schedule will be released by the end of the month.
It is my favorite summer poker venue in Vegas (outside of WSOP) because they cater more to mixed game players.

Looks again like there will be no seniors event. They seem caught up in some absurd politics I guess. Spoke with poker room today.
I have always been fond of Binions . Spent many a WSOP railing.

Not a worry. Most of the events they hold draw mostly seniors anyway. That is, every event there will be something like 90% seniors event. ;-)

Greg I never made that observation. I will definitely check that factor out when I go this summer.
