I'm definitely planning the beginning of my summer around that event.

In general the Venetian tournaments are really well run... perhaps the best in Vegas. But there's one particular procedure they use which has always annoyed me and I wanted to get others' thoughts on it in case I'm missing something.

When a particular chip denomination becomes unnecessary, they will stop the tournament clock in between levels to do a color-up on the spot. So, for example, when the blinds become 1500/3000 with a 500 ante, they will stop to color up the 100 chips instead of waiting for the next break (which is usually after the completion of that level).

As far as I can tell, there are really only a couple benefits to doing it this way. By not coloring up during a break, players who don't trust the color-up process do not have to skip their break in order to hang around and watch. Also, sometimes the color-up process takes more than the typical 10 minute break. Other than these factors, I really can't think of any reasons why this process would be preferred, but I'm willing to hear other ideas in case I'm just not thinking of something.

As far as drawbacks, there are several. First and foremost, it just wastes a lot of time. If color ups were done during breaks, you could probably play at least half a level if not close to an entire level more within a day.

Secondly, by eliminating chips during play, it makes it so raise amounts have to be more discrete. For example, using the blind levels mentioned above, a player could raise 2x, or 2.5x, but not 2.25x or pretty much any other amount around those levels. This can be a hindrance based on the table dynamics and a player's own personal preferences as far as raise amounts are concerned.

Anyhow, I can kind of understand a casino not wanting to have to deal with players complaining about the "security" of the color up process, and while there probably aren't tons of complaints, I imagine when they get them they can be difficult to rectify. But still, this seems like a minor issue especially since the consequence is a player losing a tiny fraction of a blind.

As for the length of breaks, there's no reason why a break can't be made 15 minutes during color ups, and even if you don't do that, I don't think most players will object if the tournament clock starts a few minutes late after breaks during the color up process.

All in all, I feel like this issue will be exacerbated during the summer when there will sometimes be 100 tables in play during a tourney. Stopping the clock to do color ups mid-play will cause for even longer days and longer tournaments.

Thoughts?

Hah. Just found out they changed the color-up process to take place during breaks if the break is no more than one level away. So problem solved!

Venetian should used the BB ante format and it would of fixed that problem. They will never be better than Wynn without it.

Looking forward to the series this summer. Will probably be the first time playing a NL event here since my first summer in 2011; love the big guarantees for the smaller events.

So, they don't color chips up in Wynn tourneys? Interesting.

If chips are colored up during breaks, how does not coloring them up save time and/or increase hands/hr?

Where is this convention space they are moving the Summer tournament events to?
Is it a long ways from the poker room? Are we still signing up in the poker room?

If you walk towards the palazzo, its down the hall to the right of the ticket office. I believe the poker room will be cash only while tournaments are held in the convention space, but you may want to double check with Tommy.

FYI, my understanding is there is a ride share pickup/dropoff location in front of the Sands Expo on Sands Ave, so folks using Uber/Lyft don't need to go to the Venetian or Palazzo locations for that.

Good to know, which leads into wrong thread but is there a pick up place for ride sharing at the Rio convention entrance ?

Unless something has changed, I think its outside the entrance next to the seafood buffet. Same area as the courtesy shuttles.

Sorry, googled Lyft and Uber and they will deliver to any entrance at the Rio but will only pick up at the entrance near the sports book. My apologizes for Ihad hoped they would pick up at the convention center and maybe they will; hardly any demand at present.

for anyone interested;

Last year, there was a dedicated rideshare spot outside of the WSOP area. It was under Rio Convention Center, not just the Rio.

Does anyone know the smoking conditions at the Venetian convention space; do they have a designated smoking area for in between breaks, maybe outside or do you have to walk all the way to the casino to bum a smoke.

I assume smoking is permitted outside the expo doors at the Sands Ave entrance, but I'm not certain.

Anybody know what's going on with the Venetian poker twitter account? No updates in 2 days, they stopped after saying who finished 10th in the $250 event

The final 9 chopped in the $250 event. Perhaps nothing noteworthy has occurred since.
