2018 Venetian DSE III expanded

Just heard from the Venetian TD that they will be massively expanding the DSE III into convention space next summer. Per Tommy...

“...103 tables with a food court, video lounge with TVs, and a Final Table area with high rise bleachers. We plan to stream 5 major events on the internet.”

Too little, too late. The window of opportunity was 5 years ago when the WSOP was screwing up badly.

Too little too late for what? The DSE III is always a really successful event and this expansion should just make it even more so.

Re: 2018 Venetian DSE III expanded

@VenetianPoker tweeted...

https://twitter.com/VenetianPoker/st...45349196943360

"DeepStack Extravaganza III will run from May 14 to July 29, 2018

The schedule includes over 150 tournaments and more than $31,000,000 in guarantees

Complete schedule & structures coming soon"

In reply to a tweeted question, TD stated he plans to have the complete schedule out by the end of the month, so it looks like the schedule should be released within the next couple weeks.

Glad you posted that. I saw the tweet last night and meant to post it in this thread. Sounds like it's shaping up to be one of the best tournament series of all time.Basically an WSOP with guarantees and not at the RIO. I bet this is going to take business away from WSOP

I feel like the shine is kind of off the WSOP a bit, and there is probably some market share that can be captured. But I wouldn't be too quick to predict the downfall of the WSOP. They still have a huge advantage in brand and logistics. And the reason the DSE III is such a huge event each summer is because of the WSOP, not the other way around (at least at this point).

But this expansion is a big deal. The increase in what were already pretty huge guarantees is really quite something. That MSPT 1100 had a 2.5MM guarantee last year and ended up with a 3.2MM prizepool. With a 3.5MM guarantee this year and much more space available, the sky's the limit for that prizepool.

So, with 100+ (and perhaps as many as 140+ tables available for the biggest events, if my math is correct), they should be able to be a lot more flexible. I could even foresee them offering a lot more mixed game events than they have in recent years. If they do, I sure hope the mixed game enthusiasts partake in these events instead of just whining like they did the last time the Venetian went out of its way to offer them.

I also imagine the cash scene should be improved with shorter wait times and more available tables.

All in all, I'm really looking forward to the schedule release. If its anywhere near as captivating as some of these MSPT events, I will likely build my schedule around the DSE for the first time ever.

Yeah! Screw the 20000 person $500! And the 7000 person $1500! And the other 7000 person $1500! And all those PLO and PLO8 events that get 800-1000 players! No one cares!

It depends on what "matters" means, and I suspect that is a very personal determination. Regardless, I'm sure there are dozens of bracelet winners and many others each year, for whom their performance in WSOP events, and elsewhere, matters very much.

ya but no one cares if you win one is the point im making. even a casual can name WSOP main event winners. pros cant name side event winners nor remember them. im talking mainstream popularity. sure people play those other events, they just dont have the prestige of the ME.

I guess I agree on that point. The proliferation of bracelet events has really watered down the prestige of winning a bracelet over the years. But of course the WSOP ME is still special. I mean, who would really put up with playing a 10 day tourney if it wasn’t the WSOP ME?

Anyhow, back to the topic at hand. I have never really planned a summer trip around a non WSOP event, but the DSE 1100 in early June and 1600 in mid June appear to be can’t miss events. Cant wait for the full schedule to come out.

Re: 2018 Venetian DSE III expanded

Looking over the schedule, it looks like they have definitely expanded the volume of their non-NLH offerings over last year (21 vs 8, if my counting is correct). And a cursory check of just a couple of the events ($600 Horse and $600 PLOE) makes it seem like they at least tried to schedule these with some sort of coordination to similar events at the WSOP.

If these mixed-game variants are successful this year, and if these offerings grow, then great. I'm all for people getting what they want. But If they don't do well, I really hope we don't hear anymore "why don't you offer xyz non-NLH events" whining that I have come to expect over the last few years.

Can you just shut your mouth for five minutes or stick to something else that obviously doesn’t concern you? You don’t play mixed games. Go hijack another thread with your incessant blather about button antes vs big blind antes vs whatever. You are beyond annoying. You act like you are an expert on every topic on these boards. What are your credentials other than being a know-it-all blowhard? Are you a dealer? A floor man? A tournament director? Or just some random poker player that clearly has no life and has plenty of time to voice your “expert” opinions everywhere here?

If people don’t show up to the mixed game tournaments, then so be it. However, there are several reasons as to why and since you don’t play any of them, your “expert” opinions as to why are irrelevant. And I’m not even going to go through all of the reasons because, well, quite frankly you just aren’t worth spending any more of my time on it.

Who are you to say what concerns me or anyone else? And for someone who doesn't care what I have to say, you certainly seem pretty familiar with the various things I talk about on these message boards? It seems like an incoherent point of view. Maybe you ought to reconsider it.

Anyhow, as for the mixed game offerings in the DSE III, if people don't show up, it is what it is. And the reasons don't really concern me. But if they don't show up, and then whine when the events don't get offered, well one does not have to be a TD or a dealer or any of the things you mentioned to recognize that this is an example of rank stupidity.

As for my expertise, I don't claim to be an expert in anything. I give my opinions like anybody else on these message boards. If I am actually able to back my opinions up with some semblance of logic I can see how to some that might appear as espousing some sort of "expertise". I'm sorry if you are unaccustomed to that.

And as far as the mixed games go...the only new addition, as far as buy in levels go at least, seem to be the $1600 price point for a couple plo. They have had $600, $800, and 1k plo8, plo, and other mixed games previously. They have almost always hit their smaller guarantees on these. Anyway, gl to all!

The MSPT $1,100, 3.5M guarantee event should be awesome. There is a $200 satellite and first prize should be at least 600K. Not too many live events with a 3,000X buy-in upside.
