Shout out here to the tournament staff at the Venetian. They run a tight tourney and aside from awful acoustics for their sound system inside the airplane hanger, the set up is very nice. Lots of space so tables are not right on top of each other. Plenty of room to walk around. Good restrooms. Nice food court right there on site, and friendly waitresses (even if they can't bring you cocktails).

Last night (this morning) the boss running Event #71 was really good about running the ICM chop numbers for the final table and telling us what the payouts would be, and then when we worked out the three-way chop, which was modified from the ICM numbers, he entered the numbers and got us paid out with tax forms very quickly, which was important because it was 4:15 and I had a 6:00 plane home! Really good job.

Also the dealers were very good throughout the tournament. Kudos!

FYI it can be 5-10 degrees warmer than official temps on the street within the concrete jungle.

They play golf on concrete now? I’ve always played it in the grass. 2018 Venetian DSE III expanded

Be forewarned that, at least for a little while, you cannot get there from here. That stupid HP convention has blocked off the inside entrance to Hall G and, consequently, you have to walk around and in the side entrance. Cabs can get sort of close, but you still have a short walk...I know some will whine and snivel about a little bit of sun, hence this nugget of info.

I’m looking at the MSPT $1600 $3 million guaranteed tournament entrants so far. I’m playing day C tomorrow but it does not look anywhere on pace to cover the guarantee. Anyone else seeing this or am I missing something?

The V has had some overlay this year. That said, I would expect a large field with possible alternates tomorrow and would register as early as possible to avoid long lines and alternate positions.

Without looking at that event's numbers, I know that 1C on the $800 8-max more than eclipsed the 1A AND 1B combined total entries...

Thanks for the responses. I’m playing the $600 bounty tonight. Do you know if I can register 1C tonight by chance since I’ll already be there?

For sure you can once registration for 1B closes, not sure if you can before that.

Confirmed you can reg 1C now.

Does anybody know what time the cage opens up in the morning at Venetian for tournament registration?

Also, are they running any single table SNG's for the $1600?

Yes there is a table set-up just to the right of the Registration Cage where they are issuing Player Cards.

Nice playing at V, although having to walk through smokers right outside of entrance/exit sucks. Would be nice if someone from V was outside and could direct smokers to stand away from the entrance/exit area.

A you saw, the last day 1 of any of these Venetian mega-guarantee events usually has many more entrants than the previous days combined. And that's with a hefty list of alternates.

With the expanded space, this year has been better that previous years, but with such a juicy event, lots of alternates are to be expected. I believe the plan is to have a pretty significant expansion next year as well. They still have plenty of space to grow into. I don't know if that means 50 more tables, or 100, or whatever. But regardless, I assume the last day 1s of these types of events will continue to draw huge crowds and have lots of alternates.

I hope that management understands that guarantees are an inexact science and doesn't want to scale back the scope of the series or guarantees due to a few missed ones.

And yeah, no real way to avoid having the last Day 1s be huge, same issue with WSOPME as well.

I think the ones they missed had mostly to do with scheduling. I wouldn't be surprised if those get scaled back a bit next year. However, the premier events (so far) have been huge successes. 4MM+ prizepools for both the 1100 and 1600 MSPT events. I would suspect the guarantees for those should go up next year. And a couple of the smaller buy-ins at 600 with big guarantees have done very well too.

The thing is, the Venetian puts out pretty big guarantees on just about all their events. So, with so many events, they are bound to miss some. The key is not to make a habit of it

Does anyone know if they're having satellites for the 1k 400k going on this Friday morning?

Nice job by Tommy and his team this Summer. Such a huge undertaking considering the convention area is not normally set up for the logistics of poker. And my fear going in that hiring so many new dealers would lead to degradation in quality was completely unrealized. Maybe it was just dumb luck, but whatever the reason, the dealers continued to be amongst the best I encountered in Vegas, as they had always been in the past.

Last I heard the plan is for more expansion next summer, though we'll obviously have to wait and see. In any case, I expect some of the premier events, like the MSPT 1100 and 1600 to continue to grow. Could we see a ~$1MM first place prize or $5MM+ prizepool? I don't see why not.

Before I left Vegas I spoke to Tommy and he mentioned he has a long list of suggestions for improvement for next year and beyond. If anyone has anything else to add, you can reach him at.
