I played in these events last year.
The place is a dump but has a rich history and the events are run very well.
I will be going back again this year.

Did you play the main event they had? Where was it located and what were your general thoughts?

I did not play in their main event last year. I played in a number of mixed/split pot events. I prefer those over NLH event. Binions offers a number of these types of events - almost one a day. Had the pleasure of playing with James Woods and a few other notable people in one event. The price point is good for me at $365. I like events that are between $300-$500 and are 1 day long. I enjoyed the events at Binions better than the GN - but that is 100% a personal choice. Both have good staff/run well and I would play at either. The tournament director at Binions did a nice job of talking about the history of the room before each event.

The events are held in the main poker room with over flow out on the main floor.
The mixed events had about 110-125 runners. Don't know what the NLH events get.

I'll be in town June 5-12 and will certainly play here a few times. I usually play play in one WSOP event and a few smaller 1 day events.

I have played the Binion's Classic for several years. I really enjoy it. However I liked it best in the back of the casino where we played for several years. I don't know how it will be now they are sticking us in the back of the casino in a different place. Not sure where.
I love the mixed events will play several while in town.

Crossposting this:

I was already planning on playing the Binion's Main Event, and I pulled up the structure and they are doing Button Ante. I think maybe that might be something that adds the benefits of the BB ante, while at least somewhat mitigating the bad feeling of getting moved into the BB when shortstacked in BB ante. I had thought of proposing that before, but then decided it wouldn't work, because sometimes there is a dead button, but never a dead BB. Binion's rule is if there is a dead button, there just isn't an ante that hand.

The antes start from level 1, and they have "cost per orbit" on their structure sheet, and the increases are pretty consistently smooth throughout. Looking forward to firing this one for sure (if I'm not busy winning Milly Maker heh).

They need to correct their site. They either have the rake wrong or the rake percentages wrong. Bottom of this page:

http://www.binions.com/gaming/poker_tournaments.php

Quote:
Tournament Withholds: $1,000 Buy In - $100 Rake (10%), $585 Buy In - $85 Rake (14.5%), $365 Buy In - $85 Rake (17.8%), $850 Buy In - $25 Rake (20%).
85/365 = 23.3 %
25/85 = 29.4 %

17.8% ($65) for a $365 tourney is pretty good but 23.3% ($85) is horrible. Further, there's no mention of an additional take for the dealers which implies its included in the rake. Hope that's true.

Pretty sure those are supposed to be $365 buyin, $65 rake, and $125 buyin, $25 rake. They aren't on the Binion's site, but there are nightly $125s at 8pm according to Binion's Twitter. There are no $85 (or $850) buyins anywhere on the schedule.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too--65 on the 365.

Also, the 6/27 Limit Holdem structure isn't working. Other than that, I think we have a new leader for best structured tournaments at a mid-level buy in.

Try this: http://www.binions.com/pdf/tournamen...ys/event23.pdf

Honestly, I worry that the limit events are a bit TOO well structured. Planning on playing the 365 Razz on June 8 and it's kind of crazy starting that deep, and it isn't missing that many levels late either.

If you want lots of play for a lower buyin, Binions is a great place to go. You are more likely to think there is too much play, rather than not enough. I won a 1-day event last year that started at 11am, and we made a 6-way deal at about 6:30am the next morning. The average stack at that point was still over 30xBB, and we might have played until 9am with no deal. So definitely look into that issue, and decide how much play you want. Not saying it's a good thing, or a bad thing, just an issue of personal preference.

Puzzled as to why they're having their main NLHE event so early in the series.

Annoyed is probably a better word, as I'm sure they have their reasons.

I remember them having 2 $1k NLHE tourneys a few years back, and a shame they haven't done that again.

Same, I wish they'd have switched the big NL and PLO tournaments.

Perfect spot for anyone who is out there, which I'm not

They're a million to swap it, obviously.

I was just jesting.

I walked through Binions last summer at 7AM and there were 3 guys playing an O8 tourney that started the previous day.

I've enjoyed the Binion's series the last couple years and had two of my best runs/finishes there, but this year they've double-screwed older players - there's no Seniors Event, and their main event now directly conflicts with the week-long set of Seniors' events at other properties. Sadly I probably won't play there at all this year, unless there's a day where there's just nothing better to do than go play one of their $365's.

Be advised that they only have 10 tables available for play. The HORSE today was capped at 80, with an alternate list.

They were taking pre-registration for future tournaments, so either pre-register or plan on getting there early.

Didnt binions not pay the guarantees on a tournament series a few years back?

Maybe i have my facts wrong. Either way, im a huge poker history buff and would love to play there and hear the tournament director talking about history of the room

Anyone have any further comment on this? Was planning to play in the main event but not if it's going to be 10 or less tables. Does anyone know if that was just a temporary situation early in the series or if it's going to continue?
