Hey Tad,

I can see I'm not the only one looking for Omaha/8 and HORSE tournaments during this series. What gives?

My apologies for the mistake!

But I still wish Tab would address those of us who are wondering why the Borgata has done away with the Omaha/8 and HORSE tournaments.

Thanks!

We havent done away with them and they will prolly be back in September for the WPT BORGATA POKER OPEN,. We move these things around and look for the best fits for these tournys to SUCCEED.

How can they possibly succeed when you hardly schedule/feature O8, OE, HORSE, etc in the first place. Again, you shut out a group players who do not find value/enjoy playing NLHE.

People need to stop whining about 100 person tourneys. There have been lots in the past and they are never worth it for borgata to keep running.

maybe you should go back and look at the number of entries these tournaments pull on a series by series basis. then it becomes easier to understand what tab is telling you.

If YOU owned a business (say, a poker room) and you had a finite number of seats (say, 50 tables -- 500 seats) upon which to earn money, which of the choices below would YOU select?
A NLHE tourney that will fill all 500 seats or an Omaha variation that will be lucky to fill 100 seats (while 400 seats remain empty non-income producers)?
Hurry - the clock is ticking.
Answer: You would not give a rat's derriere about ANY group of players who did not maximize your profits.
Until you recognize and accept that premise, you're jousting at windmills.

What you guys are failing to understand is that those 500 people who would play that NLHE event, will just play a different one on a different day. You're not losing them. However, you are losing the O8/HORSE player who will not play a different event, since there are none.

What usually makes the Borgata great and the WSOP as well is that there's a diversity of events involved, even if one or two events isn't as profitable as others. You still bring players who normally wouldn't be there to your property.

I dont think anyone can say we havent offered a wide variety of events in past Borgata Opens, our problem is that the Omaha H/L8B, PLO8B, PLO H, HORSE, STUD, LIMIT H., and to some extent, the Ladies, have seen precipitous drops in attendance in the last couple of years and therein lies the problem. As much as we champion all types of tournaments, the lower turnouts for these events cannot be ignored or denied. As I said, we will probably bring most of these back in the Sept. event, and hopefully you will all be there to bring the numbers back where they should be. We certainly believe in a well balanced tourny, and pride ourselves in being different...so relax, they'll be back.

I don't argue that point; you're right.
But, in a casino city fighting for its very existence against the intrusion of competitors in nearby surrounding states, its all about the Benjamins.
The Borgata is still the revenue leader in AC, but have you seen the dismal overall numbers for AC gambling income over the last 1, 3 and 5 years?
Anything that fails to maximize revenue for a casino (like poorly attended Omaha tourneys) helps to contribute to ACs demise.
The loss of those players seeking specialized poker offerings amounts to collateral damage.

TAB:

This might be asking too much but in September can we get any of these tournaments;
Stud8
Omaha8/Stud8
2-7 Triple Draw

Hey Tab,

Thanks for answering my questions about the O8, HORSE tournaments.

PLEASE bring them back in September - I will be there and get my group of friends who also play these NON- No Limit tournaments with me too!!

I understand that the Borgata has a business to run, but you are missing out on a group of players that:

1) Is typically a little older (i.e. has more money to blow)

2) Due to this we -as a group - generally have wives who we 'have to' bring with us (LOL) who play slots and lose money doing that

3) Its just a different class of players, as well - I would MUCH rather play an O8 tournament or HORSE or Stud with players who appreciate the various forms of poker and their nuances than with a group of 21 year olds who think poker is only No Limit Hold em

Thanks for responding!

That's all great, but your people have to show up and make running the tournaments worth it. When the other forms of poker are getting 50-75 runners they are going to be axed.

How does a player get those rates?

Via phone reservation? With an "Offer Code" through online reservations?

Also, how you think will the Event #20 6/4 4 p.m. Survivor side-event tourney go until? Midnight or so?

Thanks.
