How about $490, and I get to kick you in the nuts?

I'd rather buy them for $505, then seeing them sold for $490 to chainsaw

This doesn't happen often. But here are a couple of ethical poker players. It feels good to do "the right thing!"

I sold many times for $490 to $495. I don't mind paying 1% or 2% for quick cash. I don't see any unethical practice in it. But again this is my opinion. If some one buy for face value that will be fine too.

And say if some one is buying in big time (say 10 K to 100K which many pros will do) there is nothing wrong to decrease their cost and ROI.

I strongly suggest to all big buyers please post here, and wear a sticker on your shirt or collar

It sounds like me may be able to get the ball rolling on this. Whether it's 495 or 500 IMO isn't that important. What is important is having this take place at a centralized location (Starbucks) at a certain time (10:30) so we can help each other out and get back to our games. I also think if someone wants to buy size (say upwards of 20 chips) it'd be helpful to come on here and say: "hey i'm going to be at starbucks tomorrow morning. I want to buy 50 lammers for $495. That way someone with size for sale (maybe he won a couple of the daily megas) can show up and it makes everything smooth.

I'm not going to be there until mid June so hopefully things can get going before that. I'll see you all then!

So if your Canadian and you win a satellite for lammers do you get taxed on it?

The reason I offered $490 is because I've forgotten to use one or more lammers on several occasions. I'm a lifetime huge loser buying lamners just for that reason.

If this takes place at or near an agreed upon time, there will be multiple people with lammers, so buyers can see that they all look the same. AFAIK there is only one denomination - $500.

In the past I have encountered skeptical buyers, so I walked through the registration line with them. It ensured they would be able to register with them and I stood by their side the whole time. It takes only a few minutes, no big deal.

It would still help if someone post a picture of the 2013 lammer in here once they got their first ones.

This. I have always sold for face value but was willing to ease the buyer's remorse. As long as I have one in my pocket, I'll also buy at face. When I'm in line to buy into an event, they are of equivalent utility to me.

If I knew there were lammer sellers somewhere, I would have been willing to help out fellow forum members and buy them for face value instead of buying in with cash. I'm not playing in the WSOP this year because of the highly -EV 30% withholding tax for foreigners.

You can divert winnings to an American backer and avoid the 30pct.

That's on you, no need to take it out on the sellers... but if you can find a seller at that price then good for you. Personally, I think as a legendary poker superstar and ambassador to the game (not to mention one of the newer members of Team Ivey) you would want to set a good example and buy at face value. To each his own.

Why do people buy these?

If you are in line and have to pay anyways, what does paying before hand just to stand in the same line to register accomplish?

What am I missing here?

It's more of a common courtesy--they're worth $500 to the casino and why not help a brother/fellow poker player out? Either way the casino gets its money, why not help out someone who otherwise has $500 tied up into a plastic chip they can't use if they're playing tournaments (or satty's) with buy-ins under $500? If you were in their shoes wouldn't you want the same?

TL;DR - good karma

It boosts the poker economy. It doesn't hurt the buyers at all, and it helps the sellers.

If people couldn't sell the lammers, they would play fewer satellites. There would be fewer STTs, fewer Megas, fewer satellites of any kind.

Less liquidity means less money in the poker economy, and fewer entrants into the regular poker tournaments. Regular tournaments would therefore be slightly less juicy.

All of the money in the poker economy flows up from the bottom. Satellites are that bottom, which feeds the regular tournaments which feeds the cash games. If you don't buy lammers, you're just shooting yourself in the foot, in the long run.

In the end, buying lammers helps the entire poker economy and therefore every poker player (albeit slightly). So don't be a d-bag, just buy them, if you're buying into the tournament with cash anyway.

And this is why I hate the lammers. There are always people out there stating why should I buy these. I feel like a drug dealer "pssst hey wanna buy a lammer".

I arrive on 6/5. I'll buy lammers at $495 (2 minimum). Have a very good rep here, pm me.

I will also happily sell each one I win for the same price.

Rolledup, can you contradict my points? Someone asked the reason, balooko gave one, and I gave another. It helps everyone, including you.

Perhaps you had a bad experience, but from what I've seen, people usually don't pester others. They ask once, and if told no, move on. There are hundreds of people in line, it's not hard.
