Curious if I register the night before an event and show up late the next day, does the stack get put in play and blinded off?

Couldn't find anything in the rules.

Can't speak to WSOP specifically, but in the tournaments I have played this was the case. Prior to the first tourneys after the COVID lockout, never understood the advantage of early registration. People I play with have shared stories of the registration line nightmares at past WSOPs, so maybe there is a benefit as long as you are prompt!

Another question frequently asked at the WSOP

If I register before the start of a tournament, are my chips in play?

This year, if you register before the ‘Shuffle Up & Deal’ announcement - chips are in play.

The only exceptions: Tournaments w/ multiple flights.

You would prefer players who show up on time to have to sit around and stare at the ceiling while they wait for you to grace them with your presence?

The way it should work is anyone who registers prior to a couple hours before the event should not get a seat assignment until they arrive. This would allow venues to start with fuller tables and also prevent stacks from being blinded off. The technology exists. Just haven’t seen it implemented yet.

Why on earth cant you just wait to register when you get there and then start with a full stack? You realize what a pain in the ass it is for people to be registered in a tourney but have their chips set aside until they show up - sometimes we forget that it on the other side there are a lot of logistics at work.

I agree with this view, but the issue with registering day of at the WSOP is that there is almost always a big line for these events. The WSOP usually implements a policy which isn’t perfect, but is better than the alternative. Putting the chips in play is one of those policies.

I played several bracelet events this year. I do not remember one time having any stacks blinded off. I literally waited 30+ minutes to start the tournament twice to have 4 players at the table. All other stacks were in the well. Not sure if that was the norm or how it should be, just my experience in those.
