I'll be in LV for some other stuff next week but I will have one day (only) free - 6/27. Looking at the summer series schedules, there appear to be two options for mid-stakes single-day NLH events on 6/27 -
  • Wynn Summer Classic - $1100 NLH - $250k gtd pp
  • PH Goliath - $1100 Big Bounty - no gtd pp but $500 bounty

Which would you pick and why?

Planet Hollywood - way way better structure, little better rake:

In reviewing the structures, I don't understand how the two are so far apart in S-Points / structure... the PH structure looks a LITTLE better (e.g. I see 1 extra level earlier on that Wynn doesn't have) ... but they have the same starting stacks, same level durations, and seem "in the same ballpark" similar to me.

Also I realize this isn't a mathematical factor that goes into the S-Points but a $250k gtd pp on the Wynn tournament, and some of the experience upgrades (better dealers? comfortable environment?) might be factored in here.

FWIW, I went to your site's S-points calculator and put in the values for both of these tournaments. My score and vig % matches yours on the Wynn tournament, but I get a considerably lower S-point for the PH tournament (yours says 106, mine says 72). I double checked my numbers on that, I think you may have mistyped a few of the numbers on the PH tournament.

On the PH tournament, I would also wonder if the buy-in should be calculated as 600 instead of 1100, since it's really 600 (not taking away fees and vig yet) + 500 (bounty chip), which puts the overall vig % up quite a bit also.

I see the PH tournament does have a slightly better vig (depending how you calculate, see above paragraph) but the structure I don't believe to be "way way better".

I did misytpe Planet Hollywood data and it got better, I know have it at 112 SPoints. It's more than just 1 level the Wynn skips. Level 12 Wynn = Level 14 Planet Hollywood. Here's the structures I am using:

PH: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bem...UoeHPCU_x/view

Wynn: https://www.visitwynn.com/documents/WSC%20$1100%20$250K.pdf

As for the Vig%, its ([Total Cost To Enter Tournament] - [Total Amount To Prize Pool)/[Total Cost To Enter Tournament]. Anything else is just semantics and accounting tricks.

I do agree with you on considering other non-calculable factors.

A bounty is a good semi-intangible though, in that you can come away with some money even if you don't get anywhere near the bubble.

Having recently played in the Wynn Senior event and the PH Senior event (week of June 10) I’ll toss in my 2 cents worth. The Wynn structure quickly degenerates into more of a turbo event so if you’re looking to play poker you might be disappointed. PH is definitely the better structure if you want some play value. All the other intangibles easily favour Wynn though. Significantly better dealers, layout and atmosphere at the Wynn. Figure out what’s most important to you and decide accordingly. I know that in my case I’ll be avoiding the Wynn next summer unless they significantly improve their structures.

Thank you, great input.

I would go to PH because I suspect pros would prefer the Wynn. It has a guarantee and is easier to park at, with better cash game options if they bust.

Having talked to a pro about it, they don't care about that stuff as much as recs do.

I talked to a pro who was of the opinion that pros cared about guarantees. I think different pros have different concerns.
