Having not previously worked a typical 9-5 job, how difficult is it to call in last minute to take a day or two off if you make a deep run? Is it as easy as making a phone call or do you have to pretend to be sick or something? (or tell them that you actually are sick -- sick with degeneracy!)
Unfortunately, simply making day two is not a deep run in these featured events. And in the previous schedule, players who had no scheduling issues could play on either starting day and players who did could play on Saturday. Now players who have no scheduling issues can play on either starting day and those who do are less likely to play. I really think they're counting on re-buys from the regs and others in town for the long haul to make up for the lost traffic. Of course that will not apply in the Momster Stack, which i think will be the most affected by the scheduling change.

Restating what was a quite simple question: how easy is it for you to take a day or two off a job to play poker? Forget semantic arguments about what is meant by "deep run."

That varies extremely drastically from day job to day job.

I think you guys are over estimating how it will impact the players. I like the new changes personally.

People on this forum (probably akashenk too ) bitched last year about the 11am starts and warned about decreasing fields. Didn't happen. Same with this.

As someone said above, if you make it to a WSOP FT and you have to miss a day of work I'm sure you'll make it happen somehow Let's hope that will be your problem to have in Vegas haha

Honestly any rec playing the MM or Monster will be taking a few scheduled days off anyway since they're not just going to travel to Vegas for just Sat and Sun. Now they can fly in on Friday night and request Mon Tues Wed after off and be back to work by Thursday. The bigger impact might be locals/LA.

I just noticed there are antes in the pot limit games in the new $2500 big bet mix event, so that means antes in PLO, PLO8, Big O, and PL2-7TD. It is very non-standard to have antes in these games. Does anyone have an idea as to why they've been included?

guess when they ment big bets, they were not kidding with the antes in the pot limit games. Would be interesting to see how much defending blinds will occur now.

I actually preferred the earlier starts since it typically meant earlier ends to the day. And we're not talking about (at least I'm not) having to take a day off because you made the final table of one of these huge events. We're talking about having to take time off just to play day 2 and not even be in the money.

I agree they biggest effect will be with relatively local (NV/CA, primarily) players. But for those coming from some distance, in years past they could book a flight early on Monday or late Sunday and only have to change their flight if they pretty much made day 3 (already well beyond the cash bubble). They could get away with playing and not having to take much or even any time off unless they were making lots of money. Now they MUST take time off and are not guaranteed they will even be in the money. Much less attractive.

I'm certainly a "rec" but play WSOP because it is so much fun to take a solo vacation every year. I have a limited amount of vacation time and family obligations take up most of them, so I'm looking to maximize my play and minimize the number of days I take off from work. So I'm flying in June 15 and playing the Seniors event that starts on Friday the 16th. I'm booked on a flight back home that Sunday (Father's Day), but my wife understands that if I'm still playing on day #3, I will miss my flight and come home on Monday. Even if that happens, I'm only missing 3 days of work, so that's a very important factor for me. Playing the Marathon is just too many days away from work. One year I'm planning to play the Main Event, but I can justify the days for that -- but it will require a lot of advance planning.

So, I agree that guys like me value the structure that gets us to the money quickly and gets us to the final day quicker.

Yeh depends on the job. Private sector... much tougher than a state position.
But comes down to your boss , and your vacation time.
Personally my job... I have the vacation time. I would call in and say , hey I am in day 6... won't be back in the office. Sorry!
And they'd say, "sweet, we're rooting for you!"

re: Marathon Event rec play discussion

Don't a lot of rec players go to WSOP for a week, especially those from the East Coast? I know I do. I plan the tourneys that I'm playing around the time I'm there (Sat to following Sun). I am the targeted rec player that is going to play this event since I won't be playing the ME. I'm playing MM and Marathon.

I skip tourneys the last weekend of my trips and stick to cash/sngs.

Yes. People aren't just going on Sat/Sun and then calling in on Mon if they're still in. They're generally taking a few days off for anpoker vacation.

I agree with both of these posts. There are rec players who plan to come for a whole week (or more, like me). However, there is a reason the term "weekend warrior" was used to describe the throngs of people who came to play the weekend events in the WSOP. The huge field sizes for these events was due to the weekend warrior effect. The new schedule will subdue that effect. Its hard to say what that effect will be for any given single event, but I think in the aggregate, it should be quite noticeable.

I think the numbers will be the same if not higher than last year.

This topic is getting tired. You may want to open a new board for this ongoing debate. All I know is the hotels are darn full and more expensive this year. Still, I cant wait.

Question. Do you know if there will be any charging stations at the Rio to plug in a USB cord for phone charging? Or will I need to bring a wall plug?

I would suggest bringing a battery pack. I recommend the Anker brand, available on Amazon, where I think it is the highest-selling brand.

Couple questions on playing on wsop.com while I'm in Nevada for the series.

- How is the action? Are there a lot of big guarantee tournaments?
- I know you have to be in Nevada to play, do you have to be in Nevada to withdraw money? Or can you wait until after you leave?
- I am assuming withdrawing money is smoother/better options then non regulated sites like acr. Is this correct?

One more random question. If you order food from the All American Dave truck will they deliver to your seat even if you don't have a meal plan?

Nope, gotta have a meal plan for delivery.

Forget wall plug, there will be thousands of people there. Bring a charger battery.
