I had an unfortunate draw for day 2. I bagged 113k, sith average stack being 84k...and I was the third smallest stack at my table. Some tough players, including the guy who eventually won the tournament. I was forced to play pretty conservatively, which resulted in my bleeding out and getting short stacked. Have to rethink my approach to these kinds of tables.

How many runners on the $500 Seniors event today? Curious whether I will be beating myself up for being stuck in the office and not being able to make the drive...

There was a 14 way chop for 12k each in the 200k guaranteed. There was talk of chopping it 21 ways for 9700 each(I agreed). I got coolered with KK against AA and knocked out 21st. I expected to be in line to collect and hear them agree to a chop at 20 players and lose $7500.00 on the cooler! 21st was in the 2200.00 range

I felt better that they played on and chopped at 14.

Someone posted that Will won it, and the website shows he won it for $48k but you're saying it was actually chopped 14 ways?

That was me, I was going by what the Poker executives site posted. I know choctaw doesn't help facilitate chops, so they just post it based on chip counts I guess. I always wonder how they handle the taxes in a 14 way chop.

On the casino side of things, if they don't facilitate chops, the player signs for whatever place they get [Likely based on chip counts in this case] and pay taxes based on what their place would be. This is why it would be absurd to do a 14 way even chop and then sign for 1st place without any sort of compensation. You could realistically lose money after taxes in such a scenario.

Fossilman(Greg Raymer) posted how you do a chop in one of these Choctaw threads a while back. Which I brought up the other night when we were talking chop.

You only have to pay taxes on what you win, 14k. Choctaw is going to give someone a W-2 for 48k but you only owe taxes on what you really collected. I believe Raymer said to have the people in the chop agree in a statement that they chopped in Event 7, include the names and cell # etc..... When you file your taxes put 14K and if questioned you provide your statement as proof.

Wow, 14 way chop for $12,000 each? Can't really decide how I feel about that. Seems like someone probably got a great deal and someone got royally screwed. I have my doubts that all 14 players were that perfectly even in chips.

It was kinda funny, I was at Table 1 early during Day 2, and there was a nice fella that went on about how he'd never chop because he just wants to play poker and see who wins, and it's about the competition, he doesn't care if he's shortstacked or not, etc. etc.

Not doggin' the guy, but he was one of the 14 who chopped later that night.

Peer pressure...it's a helluva drug.

World of difference in potential mindsets when a 14-way chop is being offered versus two or three left going at it...yeah, you might leave something on the table, but several fare substantially better than continuing to slug it out.

so why won't Choctaw/wpt facilitate chops? what's the reasoning on their end for not helping with payouts after a chop? just wondering since I know winstar helps with chops in their sat daily tournaments. It seems like a simple thing for the casino to do, but wonder if there is a reason why some don't.
