Because Brazil is the cooler choice. But, Back to the Future was more fun (my pick), and Silverado, the wise choice, is a fun and cool (and even part tongue in cheek) Western that was about six years ahead of the Western Revival by mainstream Hollywood. And Repo Man was done in 1984. So Better Off Dead is better off dead.

I really enjoyed this movie. Introduced me to Mos Def, who I thought was fantastic. He played the sympathetic character so, so well.

Also, Better Off Dead is not being chosen that much because 1985 was a sick year for movies. Back to Future, man.

What a mullet. First of all, it's my granddaughter who has to come over, and secondly it's a Mac Portable running System 6.

Yeah, it's a great flick but I can't call it a favorite. I find the characters well portrayed but annoying. I thought of picking 2046 also, but then would have to go back and get Days of Being Wild. It's WKW's male characters -- they make too many mistakes that I can identify with. I just sit there and squirm while watching this trilogy.

Plus, it's a complete waste of Maggie Cheung. I really wanted As Tears Go By, but it was behind Akira in that year's rankings, so I took my real favorite/guilty-pleasure, Tapeheads. There's no way in the world to fade the Swanky Modes or Roscoe's.

Hope that clears everything up so you can focus on your Elwood P. Dowd writeup, which the Forum awaits.

This. Plus the makeup. Plus the premise.

There's also a Johnnie To superhero movie where she plays a cross between Batman and Super Man. Flies and kung-fus through the air in red tights and a cape.

She plays down her beauty in As Tears Go By, but there's that one scene where she's running to get on the bus, then running to get off the bus, where she just can't hide it.

I like Maggie. She's done a wide range of stuff.

Also, I like Olivier Assayas's films. Maybe I should have selected Johnnie To's Mad Detective.

All this rewinding of movie reels finally brought back the memory of a 1980's movie that I saw at some run down, small rattle trap theater that seated about 100 people. It was the same theater that I saw Stop Making Sense in. Anyway, the film is called Liquid Sky. I haven't thought about this film in probably 35 years. It took a movie mind orgasm, thanks to this thread, to bring it back to the surface. It was a fun film when I saw it, with an old college buddy. It may still have some residual cult status. An odd films or less well known film draft would certainly be fun and interesting.

Well, if we're picking for 2017 too, then I'm going to cross my fingers and pick Molly's Game, which is due out late this year. It's about time that we had another good poker movie, isn't it?

Yes, you need to change that one. Rashomon is the way to go.

The 2008 pick is interesting. I may have to go back to Bangkok again just to see it*.

* Note: In Thailand they stand and sing the national anthem before showing movies in the theater. You don't have to sing along as a foreign devil, but make sure to stand. A picture of the Royal Family is shown on the screen while this is done. If IRC.
