I did do an hour with a 20 pound weight vest and another hour with 3lb hand weights but totally level except maybe 10-15 stair flights from down in the cave to back upstairs.

Went to St.Patrick day parade in Newport. Walked a little over a mile to get there and stood in one place for an hour watching. It was fun. The bars were full by 11:00, and there was no way I was going to try to get in anywhere for a beer after the parade.

I don't hold with having parades on the wrong day, out of convenience. Have the parade on the day it's supposed to be on, goddammit.

This. I hate to let my Reactionary Freak Flag fly in public, but it demeans the holiday to move it around. The exception being Thanksgiving, of course, which should be moved forward so as not to interfere with Black Friday preparations.

They didn't listen to me. But yesterday was sun-filled and warm, and I don't think the drinkers minded at all.

A few years ago, Zeno and I celebrated St. Patrick's Day in a Cuban bar in NYC. We missed the parade.

Eight years ago I was at a conference, and I dragged two of my colleagues to Santa Ana, CA to a dive bar, The Fling.

I think it is true but probably not widespread. Few of my students would do this because they aren't raised with that sort of entitled upbringing.

I've had to deal with students who felt they were treated unfairly or received bad grades because the teacher didn't like them, but that was rare, and I spent nearly eight years as an administrator handling complaints.

I have, though, read about parents showing up for their kids performance reviews. Seems far-fetched, but I've read about it too many times to think it never happens.
