It's Daylight Saving Time once again. Deceptive advertising.

At one time, towns could decide whatever time zone they chose. You could drive from West Virginia into Ohio for about 50 miles and pass through eight different time zones.

These days states can decide what time zone they are in.

imagine the ability, as if given from god, to decide what time it is

how important it must be to determining the sequence of events happening after posting this sentence

sun, it is likely hard for you to understand how many times we must circle around the topic at hand before reaching the obituarily obligated result

everything about it is limited, including us

make a bet with your net worth
put a number of years on your life
'tis the same thing insurance companies do, why not you?

I think it's more granular than state level. At least, it seems like the countries in Indiana up by Chicago used to go daylight to stay with the metro area, but the rest of the state did not.

We should just use something like GMT. So what if the number on your clock is 03:00 (or 15:00 or whatever) when it's time to get up for work? It's just a number.

I always keep my watch on GMT (Zulu time). It's the only way to go.

Swatch used to make a watch that kept a universal decimal system, but I don't think it caught on.

I don't own a GMT. I figured I don't travel much anymore, so why get one. But I like this idea.

I think you can find watches that use GPS to automatically adjust time.

Just to complain. Temperature is 36. Wind chill is about 20. I'm glad I'm on spring break.

If not for family and friends, I would love to move somewhere where spring arrives in spring.

Isn’t Zulu time racist?

Normally, yes, but the Zulus have agreed to share it with non-Zulus as part of an outreach program.

Live in a place that works for you. Others came come visit, or you can travel as needed.

My daughter did ask why I would deny them a warm place to visit when I floated the idea.

Hell, nobody comes to visit me now.

I like a nice, descriptive police log:

Police noticed two cars in the westbound breakdown lane on Frenchtown Road and two women arguing next to the cars. Upon closer inspection, it was apparent one of the cars had hit the other car. The women were so angry they needed to be separated and an NKPD officer arrived to interview one of the women while the EG officer talked with the other. Both versions of the story were similar: the women had seen each other at the Post Road Cumberland Farms gas pumps. One woman is pregnant by the other woman’s ex-boyfriend. The two began arguing there, then one of the women drove past the other woman’s house so the other woman began following her. They ended up on Frenchtown Road, where the driver in front pulled over and the second driver rear-ended her. The driver of the second car said that had been unintentional – she’d gotten out of the car without putting it in park. The first driver did not want to press charges. NKPD handled the accident report.

the police blotter editor auditioning for tmz

an early '90s entry in the oregon campus paper went something like this:
suspect apprehended and arrested at the intersection of 13th and high st fully nude and brandishing a machete
charged with public nudity and carrying a concealed weapon

Nice gesture.

One time in Boston on a very hot day, and an old woman, a street person, approached me and asked me to buy her ice coffee.

"What size?"

She only wanted a medium.

This abandoned house
shining
in the mountain village—
how many nights
has the autumn moon spent here?

Lying alone,
my black hair tangled,
uncombed,
I long for the one
who touched it first.

***

Undisturbed,
my garden fills
with summer growth—
how I wish for one
who would push the deep grass aside.

***

Written for a current wife to send to an angry ex-wife, attached to a bamboo shoot

The bamboo’s
old root
hasn’t changed at all—
Is there even one night
he sleeps at home? No.

First good weather day of the year! 70 and sunny and calm. We have had a few 70ish days earlier but they came with heavy winds and/or overcast. But today was perfect so I took advantage by sitting on the deck, listening to music and reading. I love lounging in the sun with a good book and good tunes. Hopefully there will be more days like this before it gets too hot.

I wish. Cooler this time of year near the water, and at most in the mid fifties a couple days this week. By next Monday we will begin a week of high temps in the low forties. Spring almost always arrives late in New England.

Oh well.
