Yeah that seems to be the common sentiment on Springsteen but I just don't get it. His vocals don't move me and the songs are milquetoast for rock imo.

There's probably a "you just have to be there" component to his shows that I'm missing, but watching vids of his live performances leaves me scratching my head. To me it just looks like a middle-aged white guy bopping around and strumming on a Tele that I can't hear.

He just fails to rock me.

I met the guy. While I didn't spend enough time with him to tell if he was weirdo, I did spend enough time with him to determine he is an azzhole.

Those sound like great shows! And I love Prine and have just about everything he ever recorded. It's just that he has been mentioned (underrated) a couple of times and mentioned often over the years in various music threads. Nobody (except me!) ever mentions Goodman. Prine and Goodman were best friends, they often toured together and they wrote some songs together. And I always considered Goodman far more talented.

Often dying prematurely like Goodman did elevates their perception but I am still guessing most people don't know who he is. For me he is a top 5 ever recording artist.

I've never really gotten into either of these, despite several tries. It's silly, but I just cringe upon receiving into my ears the song of lisping emo warblers.

As for pavement/malkmus, occasionally the mood calls for cranking "summer babe" on repeat a few times.

The most underrated "heavy" band that I can think of is Suicidal Tendencies, considering their massive influence. Hell, Hank Williams III cites them as an influence. The entire 90s owes them a big thank you.

Overrated: The Stooges and (sorry to say it) Sex Pistols.

Just want to say that Bruce Springsteen is not overrated & is one of the best songwriters of all time. His newer albums are consistently great. He's won 13 grammy's since 2002, and deservedly so.

Never got into Goodman. Where should I start?

Over here in Euroland, no one seems to have heard of John Prine at all, in the US I guess he has some level of fame.
