This evening, I'm enjoying a wonderful birthday gift from a friend:

Citrus and sweetness on the nose. Light wood at the front mellowing into warm smooth buttery notes. Mild spice and fruit underneath throughout. Absolutely delightful.

From what I've read, many can distinguish cinnamon, lemon and currant flavors. I don't, personally, at least not very distinctly. The aftertaste definitely has a cinnamon note, though; so it's certainly in there.
Sounds great. I think one of my favorites was also a sherry cask. Balvenie 18 yr sherry I believe but I haven't seen it in years now.

Last night I tried Bunnahabain 12 Bruichladdich 12 and Ardbeg Uigedal (sp?) at a local Scottish Pub. Ardbeg was fantastic as usual and despite what I expected I liked Bunnahabhain better than Bruichladdich.

Whisky drinkers,

http://www.drinkhacker.com/2012/02/0...t-code-within/

I've been to the SF one the last couple of years and it has been a really good time. $135 w/ the $15 coupon code at that link. So definitely quite expensive, but you can taste a LOT of whisky in two hours, and it does include a dinner buffet which has been pretty good.

Picked up a bottle of this:

Very good. I'm not nearly as schooled in the finer points, but I can say this: It has that same bite that some of the harsher ones have, but with a smoothness that those lack. Quite tasty.

Also got one of these in case the above wasn't good:

Just had some parker's heritage, which is aged in cognac barrel(s. I quite liked it. Makers like, but less sweet. Very nice neat. Don't think it is available elsewhere Idk. O liked it

Two of my all time favorites. Very nice choices.

If you like the Ardbeg, but want one with a touch less peat flavour, try their Blasta. Very nice, and still very definitely Ardbeg, but it lets some of the other flavours shine through a bit more.

This is pretty damn good. Nice, smoky flavor and smooth finish. The bottle top sucks though. The cork broke off from the cap easily.

Thread is slow and I'm liking my collection atm so here it is Just seeing that the pic is kinda crap but oh well.
Had to put the Whistle Pig in there even though its empty cause its the best.
I'm not an avid scotch drinker so I'd like to here from those of you who are if you have any thoughts on the triple smoke on the far left. To me tastes like a smokey bourbon or a sweet peaty scotch but I dont have any other scotches around atm to compare.

Anyone ever try ardbeg alligator? I saw it at a bar last night, and it was pricey, but would probably go back and get some if it's supposed to be really great.

Anyone been able to try the Woodford Double Oaked yet?

I just liked this excerpt from a review http://whiskeyapostle.com/2012/02/wo...-double-oaked/

Nose: This reminds me of snickerdoodles with vanilla ice cream: vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar. After it opens up a little the sugar turns into a fruity caramel.
Palate: Holy crap that’s good! It’s like Woodford taken to the next level. You’re hit with a blast of fruity oak infused sweetness but it’s not overpowering. Lots of vanilla and caramel. Really tasty.

It's really great. If you like their other stuff, you'll like it a lot. Not quite as over the top with the peat as Uigeadail or Corryvreckan. Still super peaty, but very well balanced.

AA,

I liked the Alligator OK, but I far prefer the Corryvreckan.

Have any of you tried the Ardbeg Blasda? I'm curious, but haven't really wanted to buy a bottle based on the description.

El D, Blasda is very good, I would definitely recommend it if you're an Ardbeg fan. It has an excellent and unique flavor. Hits the spot when you're in the mood for a less smokey Ardbeg.

Someday I'll do a trip report, but last year I went to Islay and visited all the distilleries there. Ardbeg and Bruichladdich really stood out in terms of the amount of experimenting they do with different batches and flavors.

A friend bought me a bottle of Blasda for my birthday. I'm very much enjoying it. A bit lighter on the palate, but still unmistakably Ardbeg.

Wow, there must be something wrong with my bottle of Blasda. Mine has an excessively strong finish that tastes like you gargled with a cigarette ashtray. I've had a few glasses and the rest of the bottle has sat on my shelf untouched for almost 3 years. If anyone wants to savor the all out foulness of my apparently turned bottle, let me know and i'll figure out a way to bottle and ship a sample.

Huh. Yeah, that's really bizarre. Either our palettes are completely different, or there's something wrong with your bottle.

Can anybody provide, or does anybody know where to find a good list of tasting notes for all the different Ardbegs? I haven't bought any new whisky for a while but I'm due a few bottles now so was thinking of getting one or two of these special Ardbegs but there are so many different ones.
