I'm buying cheap whisky these days (White Horse was in the glass today for example), don't know exactly what to do about it. My only drinking at least is whisky with a bit of straight vodka thrown into the mix. Beer and wine aren't proper drinking imo. Cocktails are even more fooling yourself.

I have decided that exactly one bottle a week is proper, but only if it's cheap 40%

Letting my liver rest during the weekends. Views?

Waiting for a whisky happening in the spring, THEN...

there are two kinds of drinking. one to enjoy a great cocktail and one to get high.

I have tried both, looks I'm into the second one for the moment. Not having **** anyway, it almost has to be whisky. And you can get just moderately high, my absolute maximum is 200ml, 150ml serves better. Even 100ml can do the job well. With strengths of 46%, 53%, etc. the math gets more difficult

And I still think cocktails, whisky with coke etc. is much for the fainthearted wanting to get high without really noticing what they are doing.

Play,

I think highballs may be the answer for you.

I still love whisky, don't want to spoil that. Will be back. Yesterday I in fact started sniffing again for a moment, wow!

I may turn out a blend connoisseur. There could be a niche for that. The single malt business may start to get a bit hyped.

for me it´s mostly straight or with some drops of water.

For me it's the same. The usually not adding drops of water may be laziness.

You're like the guy coming to the steak thread and saying "Salt, pepper, bbq sauce, then two minutes each side on the grill. That's the perfect steak!"

I will look into that on the rocks thing everybody is talking about.

Will get the facility to our freezer.

Guess the experiment will be short lived...

Having some good dark rum for celebrating Monday. Kind of regret it, whisky ftw!

i am not a fan of putting whiskey on ice, unless it is cheap and I am trying to get drunk.

The coolness masks the complexity and a lot of the more subtle flavors imo. Tepid water helps open up a lot of whiskeys, tends to work better at a higher abv, but also sometimes for standard 80 proof.

LOVE IT. Have you noticed a difference in the regular since they dropped the age statement? I have my opinion but want an unbiased response.

Have you ever had George T Stagg? Im biased as I had that first, but I found the Jr. to have alcohol burn as the predominant experience, even water didn't help for me.

The barrel proof stuff still has the 12 year age statement it's just on the back now. Haven't had the NAS regular stuff yet.

Went to buy a bottle yesterday from MoM with the rest of the stuff I bought at $48/bottle and it was gone. Wonder why... Also wanted a bottle of Caol Ila that was sold out as well. Either way I was happy as I got the last bottles of Highland Park 21 and Bowmore 18 for my Xmas game and a whole slew of new samples.

just went on MoM and they were asking for $150 for shipping and customs for 6 bottles to the US.

I guess that site is dead to Americans now...

It's always been really expensive to ship from MoM/TWE, but it seems to have gotten even worse. The best shipping prices are from the Dutch sites: Whiskybase, whiskysite, bestofwhisky, but bottles take 2-4 weeks to arrive.

Still cheaper than buying stuff from the local store for the higher end things, at least in my area. Just got a bottle of the HP 30 for $600ish vs. The local places want over $900, if you can even find it. Added a few other bottles and some samples and shipping cost me around a hundo. Ordered on Monday night and was at my door by 3pm this afternoon, so 40 hours? Feels like free when compared to the damn upcharge from the local places. I agree though for cheap bottles not worth it, but if I'm looking to buy a high end bottle then the shipping is "free" at that point.

For other orders, I agree with the above that Dutch sites are the way to go.

Hi all,
I've recently gotten into whiskey and have tried about 15 different kinds. I started with cocktails a while ago but lately it's been only neat and I'm loving it.

I have tried, Aberlour 12, McCallen 12,
Nikka Coffee grain, Santory 12, Talikser 10,
Basil Haden, Templeton rye 6, Angles Envy, Elmer Lee Straight, JW Gold.

I was a fan of Angle's Envy but I think it just might be what I was used to. My most recent bottle was Lagavulin 16. My first few glasses I did not enjoy very much. Then on my second tasting I fell in love. So much smokey goodness that just melts in your mouth.

Looking for suggestions on my next few bottles. Was thinking Balvenie 12 doublewood. (Or a different Balvenie?) Any other recommendations?

I will probably pick up a bottle of Woodford Reserve or Buffalo Trace so I can try some new bourbons as well.

for the scotch, if you liked the lag, try laphroaig 15 and ardbeg uigedal. You can push your sherry preferences with a glendronach 15. Lag 16 iis my personal favorite fwiw.

For bourbon, those are both very solid choices, if you can find a blanton's or eagle rare I would recommend those as well.

Balviene 12 is a solid somewhat sherried whisky, but your selections have been somewhat across the board.

dutch sites confirmed better, just hate waiting 4-6 weeks. And MoM was't that bad a few years ago when I last purchased there. And they sometines upcharge the hell out of their higher end stuff. At least from what I have seen
