Mackmyra Svensk Rök, Teeling Small Batch, Longrow Peated, Bunnahabhain. May I have twenty more?

Was into miniatures before, but drinking it all at once makes you missing out on the possibility to go back for getting deeper.

Nice, some thangs I've not had even when it comes to name. Maybe having even one from different distilleries could be a small goal? They don't have to be Port Ellens though.

Just secured a bottle of Pappy 20. Going to pick it up tonight though I don't know when I will first open it.

Don't know why I forgot to mention I have the 12, intended to write it . Comparing different ages from the same distillery can be a small goal too.

For some reason the 12 wasn't as mind blowing as I remembered it to be.

Bunnahabhain 12 is a nice whisky but definitely nothing mind blowing. Very hard to find something mind blowing at that price point (under $50).

Maybe laborating with water could make a bit cheaper whiskies better experiences? Could start out with the sniffing, gradually having some, take a small brake for re-sensitizing, a bit water added, carefully evaluating and enjoying the rest.

That's what I do with every whisky, no matter how cheap or expensive. But there's a limit on how much you can improve a cheap whisky. Not to say that non-expensive whiskies are not enjoyable, quite a few of them really are.

If anyone is ever in Tokyo it is ****ing absurd how cheap some amazing whisky is there, particularly given the strength of the dollar vs the yen atm

I went to a liquor store chain in Ikebukuro and my head exploded

Still regretting not buying a bottle of Hibiki 17 for ~$75

I have found Japanese whiskies good also.

Think I will stock up with 10-15 of the usual goodies before returning to the a bit more exclusive lists you provided. How did the usual Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Balvenie, Lagavulin, some Burbon, and so on, taste? Back to the basics, but with a confidence in that much will come back to me, preparing for the next steps.

Just going with the feeling right now. Was checking out the shelves, Four Roses Single Barrel was the one going to check-out. Nice bottle, a suitable price and even a mark exactly which barrel it came from. Some class from the other side of the Atlantic (Scotch being "this side").

You have to be open-minded to like bourbon when you haven't grown up with it. I am.

FRSB is a solid bourbon for the price.

I think its ironic how you state the bourbon/scotch thing. IMO bourbon is much easier to get into as it tends so be sweet where mos people cant really appreciate/enjoy a smoky whisky like laprhoaig or talisker ofr example.

But if you like bourbon as well there are tons of good ones under the $50 price point.

1972
elijah craig 12
eagle rare
high west
bulliet
woodford reserve
angels envy
buffalo trace
blantons special reserve
jeffersons
old forrester
redemption rye
basil hayden
WL Weller 12

just to name a few

Nice list!

Was just going to hit up the thread for bourbons

I've always been into scotch and recently tried a few bourbons that I liked

I remember Bulliet and Buffalo Trace were standing there, waiting for to be grabbed. Somehow I like to just watch the real stuff, seeing all those pieces of craft. And you get to see what the local store prefers, probably also tells a story. Of course online will be a great friend. But you get the posting delay, needs more planning than just picking up an appealing bottle and open it within some hours. Will need some mass to fall back on so the waiting for next shipping will not get boring.

I'd be surprised if bourbon became my favorite, but you never know...

Straight is the only way I drink too. This looks a bit heretic and insensitive, but some time ago I discovered you can let your mouth not be totally dry when taking a sip, then you can get the "explosion" often talked about when adding some water. No outside water needed. Anybody else tried this? Or am I the lone wolf, the incurable rebel? Laziness inherits the world

Balvenie Doublewood 12. Glad I got it. As I remembered it's not really anything special, but just gentle and classy. After my tounge got a bit numb from the 50% bourbon yesterday, this is really soothing.

balvenie 12 is a solid bottle for the price.

IF you like that i recommend trying Angel's Envy if you still want to try the bourbon thing on for size.

This online order ended up not going through, so I contacted several stores around Atlanta and only one could get it for me. Turns out only six bottles of the Gordon & MacPhail Caol Ila Hermitage 2001 came to Georgia.

Decided to spend a bit more to honor the weekend: Ardbeg Perpetuum. The Corryvreckan with its 57% scared me off a bit, numb tounge you know...my analysis of the Perpetuum must be incredible nose with the only clearly distinguishable parts being loveable peaty and smoke, and then you have the class emerging below, not able to pinpoint it. Maybe later.

Best hobby ever, next to poker.

I second this. I have experimenting with bourbons lately, and Angel's Envy is fantastic.

Not quite as great as Rowan's Creek, but very very good.

The only other one I've tried lately is Basin Hayden's, which is way too sweet for my tastes.
