Picked up a bottle of antique, a few months ago and liked it saw this for $26 and had to grab 2. Funny thing is priced matched the 12 year from TW site that was $24. Got home and saw it was special reserve.no age statement

Caol ila fans,

Bought a friend a bottle of Gordon macphail hermitage finish caol ila. I think it was like 13 or 14yo, just bottled a few months ago. Holy cow was this great. Like $120 or something, and well worth it IMO. Great combination of rich peaty flavor with sweet fruity notes on top.

Foo and other American whiskey fans,

Had some Russell's reserve single barrel bourbon, very good stuff. Classic bourbon flavors - caramel, vanilla, oak, just straight ahead bourbon done really well.

Also had some michters toasted barrel finish bourbon. Not bad, lot of vanilla, very soft/smooth, little bit of spicy fruity notes. Nothing very special, but a nice smooth easy drinking bourbon.

Going to the whiskey live show in Toronto tomorrow night. Never been to anything like this, so I will just drink all the whiskey. Wish me luck!

Goose,

My advice? Drink all the water and eat all the dinner buffet too!

It was a business trip after all, so I had to be careful not to over do it!

I'm always praising the lagavulin 12, and here's more confirmation that you should go and get a bottle if you haven't done that already: Serge Valentin rated it as high as the latest Port Ellen release. Read about it at www.whiskyfun.com

Mackmyra Svensk Rök (Swedish Smoke)

Not as smoky as Talisker, but it reminds me why single malt is the thing to go for. Nose really woke me up.

First try at clear whisky and I didn't really care for it. Has a distinct smell and taste that is new to me. Anyone like this stuff? I don't see myself drinking it.

Yeah, white dog really isn't for drinking...is unaged bourbon. They just started selling fairly recently because, basically, they could.

Pretty uniformly horrible to drink imo.

Thought this was an exclusive bargain: the Irish Teeling Whiskey, Small Batch. Don't recommend it. Had it been put on the quality whisky shelf by accident?

Thanks for the recommendation. I was looking for something unique like this for my girlfriend's birthday next month. Ordered one online. I got her a bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail per this thread last year and she loved it.

Often wondered about those clear bourbons. Probably won't bother pulling the trigger on one

Nose: wood, slightly earthy, acetone, subtle peat in the background. doesn't smell like a typical young spirit. With water the springbank character comes out (kilkerran is owned by springbank's owners and also in campbeltown). Nose very refined for such a young spirit.

Taste: a bit sweet at arrival, then spicy. Slightly woody and bitter. Some honey that turns bitter right away.

Finish: rough at first. Not too much going on outside of wood and some pepper. The bitterness of the taste lingers after a few sips.

Interesting whisky, very similar to a springbank, which I like. I wish the bitterness at the end would be less pronounced. Looking forward to future releases when the spirit has more time to mature.
so theres a chain of liquor stores around me that all have very different unique scoth selections, so i have been trying to go to all of them to see what each offers.

The one i went to last night had 4-5 bottle of the bourbon wood and sherry expressions.

Worth buying them out? I have had a bitch of a time trying to find the bourbon wood one online.

I haven't tried more Kilkerran since that sample, but I did get a bottle of the Bourbon wood cask strength that got amazing reviews. Haven't opened it yet so can't offer an opinion on it.

But my internet reading says that bourbon>sherry.

Looking for someone that might want to trade/sell some 2oz samples. I'd need to buy some bottles, so if you want to trade it might be a few days until I can get things packaged.

Off the top of my head I currently have (I'm forgetting a few I'm sure):
Balevine Doublewood
Ardbeg 10
Macallan Fine Oak 15
Laphroaig 10
Laphroaig 18
Talisker Distillers Edition
Glenlivet 12
Glenlivet 18
Highland Park 18
Old Pultney 21
Kirkland 18
Kirkland 20

Looking for (somewhat in order)
Lagavulin 16
Lagavulin Distillers Edition
Talisker 10, 18
Highland Park 12, 15
Glenmorangie 18
Oban 14

I'm seriously getting back into whisky tasting. The secret is having one dram a day, no more, no less. Suits the wallet etc. Nose has become half the experience, has practically no limit. Drinking makes the stuff disappear

Having a couple of dozen bottles at any given time feels about right, we'll see, building the collection. Any suggestions for "must haves"? Can get it online if it doesn't happen to be found i the local store. Would prefer getting used to bottles below $100, why not a bit less.

Plaay, what's in your current collection so we can suggest bottles under $100? Tons of good stuff online for that price.
