How much lower?

As low as possibly, but $30-40 is fine. Could probably do $45-50 if its especially good.

You won't find much great scotch in that price range.

Lot more options in that price range for bourbon and rye.

maddog, Glenmorangie is used in for example the blend Highland Queen:

https://www.maltmadness.com/whisky/glenmorangie.html
Quote:
4) An unusually high percentage of the whisky that is distilled at Glenmorangie is sold as a single malt.
Circa 70% of the whisky is bottled as SMSW; the rest was used in blends like Bailie Nicol Jarvie & Highland Queen.
Honey/toffee and fruit/citrus should be found in both.

Think I'm going to pick up a bottle tomorrow. Costs €21

Interesting! There's talk of reviving Edinburgh distilling itself, as a former bakery/training site, The Engine Shed, has been closed down and could be turned into a still.

Biased as I have always lived on this side of the bridge, I would pick the Old Town over New

Interesting to me that the Glenmorangie 10 yr is ~30% the price of the 18 yr. Will probably give it a shot, as the reviews seem to indicate the flavor profiles are somewhat similar.

Went to a beer-whisky bar yesterday, had 20ml of Glenmorangie 18, because you had. Hate to say I wasn't blown away. The Ardbeg Corryvreckan almost killed me though. Can't imagine a Sunday without it

Just cracked open the brand new Jack Daniels single barrel rye. Far superior to the rested rye of a few years ago.

Currently on a diet so am avoiding beer, which has given me a great excuse to indulge in my love of whisky. Went out with a mate last week and had Balvenie Doublewood for the first time based on multiple favourable mentions in this thread. The stuff was absolutely delicious. Can't believe I have never had it before. Ended up having 4

Went to get a bottle from the supermarket tonight and discovered Laphroaig Quarter Cask on offer for £25 instead of £36 so picked that up instead (obv totally different but am gonna build a decent home collection). Just had one and had to pour a second - so moreish. More mellow than regular Laproaig and very very drinkable!

This was in Asda btw and I would assume their offers are nationwide so UK peeps who like Laphroaig might want to pay their local store a visit.

I was in Montreal last weekend and there were some extraordinary prices on whisky pours. Nothing shocking, but everything was $2-4 less than I was used to seeing it, like $12 for Abun'adh or $11 for the Doublewood. Pretty cool.

I'm glad I don't have to pay DC prices at my local watering hole.

Don't think their menu is available online, but I'm pretty sure Jack Rose prices 1 oz of Abun'adh (for example) at $15+

Maybe I'm wildly wrong

El T,

I am coming to NM just for that. Maybe i will make it to see my folks in santa fe if i dont have to many of those (very unlikely).

The dalmore pricing is all jacked up making the cigar melt insane value if you like the pruny taste.

That's Two Fools Tavern on Central, by far the best selection of whisky (American and Irish too) in the city.

Re: Jack rose.

Lol, I'm pretty sure I've never gotten out of that place with less than a $200/head bar tab. Granted I'm usually only there with whiskey buddies, but still...

Usually goes something like this.

Drink 1. Let's start with a great all-around bourbon. 2 oz. of four roses 125th pls.

Drink 2. OK, time to have a pour I've never had before. Hmm, 1 oz. Of Hirsch bluewax sounds interesting

Drink 3. Willett time! Something barrel proof I reckon.

Drink 4. Hmm, maybe time for a beer to slow down a bit.

Drink 5. Damn that four roses is good, let's do another round!

Could go to a place with 500 different brands, but could get recognized . So the just 50+ brands will do for now

ET, how much stuff do you get for that price? I have to take 10ml of some of the more expansive brands.

I think their pours are 1.5oz (50ml?). They also do flights of 3 and half pours.
