This store is almost 30 minutes from work! I intentionally go there as it isn't by the school I work at.

I've decided to stop caring about the opinions of uninformed people. If someone thinks you're an alcoholic because they don't know whisky is a legit hobby, **** em

Probably more because I didn't have a 30 case of high life.

Even more tasty if you like horse piss.

I have to disagree with the good reviews on Laphroaig Quarter Cask. I wanted to like it but I found it very underwhelming.

whiskylover,

yes. I have a bottle of Laphroaig 18 and love it. My Quarter Cask tastes watered down in comparison.. almost like there is something wrong with it.

Wtffff, really? Laph QC isn't underwhelming. What do you consider a good islay?

Another +1 vote for Laphroaig QC. Finished a bottle this summer and loved it. I have heard that the newer bottles are not as good as they used to be. Mine was from ~2013 so I can't verify that.

On another note, our friend formerly known as manndl (Is that whiskylover?) sent me a nice pack of samples. I've tried a few so far that I liked quite a bit. I will post reviews once I stop being on the road from work.

I finished a bottle from '14 earlier this year and I loved it.

I doubt this accounted for much, but whisky will taste different during summer since it's harder to keep it at room temperature

I will try it again when I get back to Phoenix in a week. I just picked up the bottle last week and just had one drink.

I love QC, but it's definitely not the one of the most "complex" whiskeys. It's just about the cheapest single malt you can buy when purchased at duty free though, and for that it is glorious. Essentially you're getting a 60-70$ 750ml bottle for $35 and it's 1L.

Obviously for its price it's not going to be better than various ardbegs but it is tremendous value.

the Ardbeg 10y 1L is €36 this month at Heinemann(biggest travel value store chain in europe)
so if u have a flight in europe pick it up,it´s a great price and a great whisky!

Picked this up last night, getting back into the scotch after a lot of bourbon lately. Strong Pete also much hotter than QC at 54.2% drinking it neat is a bit of the burn.

went out and got Ardbeg 12, Highland Park 12, High West Double Rye, and Eagle Rare 10 tonight. they're my first real whiskey purchases, and all reccommendations from this post by El Diablo. total $150 from Total Wine.

had a tasting with my dad, a Chevas and Johnny Walker Red drinker, which was really cool. we both liked the Ardbeg more than the Highland Park. dad described Ardbeg as 'peaty', which i confirmed was indeed a word i see y'all usin' ITT. i liked the High West Double Rye.

The official whisky guy from KL said the new Jack Daniel's single barrel cask strength expression is "INSANELY" good. Is anyone willing to bite the bullet? My cabinet is still full

Interesting - I also tried quarter cask at a show and was underwhelmed, and also love Laph 18 and Uigeadal.

Re: Quarter cask. Guys, it's a $30 whiskey at duty free shops.. it's not the best but great value and better than anything else around that price.
