cool. Feel free to bump any episode you specifically want to comment on, there's a few rabid Twin Peaks fans in this forum (including me), so we'll be happy to discuss anything.

Have you watched 'Fire Walk With Me' yet?

No not yet, but I plan on watching it. Is it supposed to bring closure to the series? Heard it was a huge fiasco.... but then again heard the same about the series and it fascinated me so I intend to only listen to advice of people who enjoyed the series.

Fire: walk with me is a masterpiece, but don't go into it thinking it's going to answer any questions because it doesn't. In fact, it's a prequel.

I haven't watched FWWM yet (too scared to be honest). The tone is significantly darker with hardly any of the funny quirky stuff, from what I've heard. They do slightly address the events at the end of the series though don't they?

I've developed some affection for Sheryl Lee since I finished the series proper, and might have to rate her now #1 or #2. She was still really pretty in the Gold Box interviews. Both her and Madchen Amick have grown better with age.

Sheryl Lee is the star of FWWM...it's all about he last few days before Laura Palmer dies.

What it does do is provide some resolution about Laura's end. And as it is a Masterpiece as Dom says, in the sense it is a demonstration by an artist of their mastery of their medium in a single piece of work.

phenomenal series. The ending is unbelievably good. I must thank you guys, i didn't know FWWM existed until i read this thread. I just bought the gold set and watched it all. Am downloading FWWM right now expecting to be blown away.

EDIT: This and LOST are the only 2 shows ive been able to watch all the way through and really get into that aren't comedies. (Ive seen all seinfeld, all scrubs, etc)

Just watched Fire Walk With Me. I thought it was great. I was really surprised at the awful press it got. It seems like if you watched the series you should love the movie. I dunno.

Agree. I think the bad press is for those that didn't watch the series. I think back then film critics didn't watch much TV.

There was a film on the TV yesterday called 'Experiment in Terror' from the early 60s, and the opening music reminded me of Twin Peaks - so IMDBed it and, lo and behold, apparently it's a major influence. I never knew that! It's even got a town in it called Twin Peaks.... I'll try and watch it tomorrow and report back.

In the meantime, here's the theme music, tell me if you can detect teh Twin Peaks vibe.

I caught most of this show when it originally aired and absolutely hated it when my mother needed to watch 'her show' which was something along the lines of Inside Edition or something completely forgettable (obv).
Later in college around '97 a good friend got the vhs of everything, it sucked 10 of us in for over a week. Everyone skipped work and classes until the last scene and this thread reminded me of those fond memories.

"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee. Like this." -Dale Cooper

Watched FWWM last week. I thought it was phenomenal, and not as scary as I thought it would be. Certain episodes of the series were scarier.

Laura is by far my #1 Twin Peaks girl now.

LOVED the formica table scene. According to the little guy, they filmed around 20 minutes worth for that scene and only used 1 minute. Hopefully there will be a Blu-Ray release next year with the 17 deleted scenes including that.

I loved the Cooper stand-in. It's so sad that we never got to see more of all of the new characters and potential plotlines that were introduced. Great stuff.

I see the film as taking place in a slightly alternate universe than the series. Tone, continuity "errors" (the other FBI agent working on that case rather than Cooper, etc.), and...

Regarding whether or not the incest was what it seemed, discussed years ago in this thread. I think in the movie it's pretty clearly supposed to be legitimate abuse. There is the supernatural element of course, and possible split personality going on with Leland, but it overall seems that it is meant to be unambiguous abuse, with Laura having blocked it out for years.

In the series I think it's the opposite. There, it pretty clearly IS supposed to be a supernatural character committing these deeds. I don't think we're meant to think poorly of Leland very much at all, which we are in the movie. The non-supernatural elements are still there, but that's generally the way I see it.

The other FBI agent was working another case, that's why Cooper wasn't there. He hasn't yet been sen to Twin Peaks - he only goes after Laura Palmer is found dead.

I know. What I meant was that, in the series, it is strongly implied (or explicitly stated?) that Cooper worked on the Teresa Banks case. This was indeed the intention for the movie as well, until MacLachlan said he didn't want a big role and they had to re-write those scenes with an alternate FBI agent, a semi-doppelganger for Cooper. Similar look, reverse initials (Chester Desmond, Dale Cooper), brilliant and methodical, Cooper is pretty pure good and straight-arrow, whereas Desmond is a mischief maker (making Sutherland spill his coffee, physically attacking the local police). More here:

Especially interesting is towards the bottom where it talks about Desmond's investigation possibly being a dream of Cooper's.

Whenever I take my first sip of a freshly poured cup of coffee, I feel like I'm Cooper. Once when the waitress handed me a cup, I held my hand up and said "wait a minute, wait a minute!" and took my sip.

I take my first few sips black, then add milk and sugar. I'm slowly weaning myself onto 100% black.

Yeah, everytime I make a nice cup on the stove instead of the instant stuff I think about Cooper and Twin Peaks

I got the DVDs last xmas and watched the whoel first series in about a week I loved it so much, and I'm going through it again now. I love all the small things and idiosyncracies about this show, the portrayal of simple small town life and the shots of the town. The characters are amazing and Cooper might be my favorite protagonist of all time, his chirpy demeanor despite such a tragic investigation is brilliant.

I think the series got a bit silly towards the end of season two but it was still great. I never cared much about the mystery much to be honest, what I loved about the show was just the vibe, Lynch really immersed me into the town and the characters. That is what kept me watching

I want to watch it again all over now it has been a year. Maybe it is a winter thing

I'll post any thoughts I have as I go through it

Agree about the ladies too, every one was stunning. Audrey was def a fav of mine as well, she had a really sultry yet innocent appeal
