You're freaked out by season one? You will probably die later on and especially in the prequel movie. And if Eraserhead wins the DVD club poll, God help us all.

Ok, watched episode 3 and I am definitely not freaked out. I think it was the dream sequence late at night that did it for me. I'll try to watch these earlier in the evening to avoid it from now on. Please catch up with us JuntMonkey and all you lurkers out there. I like to hear everyone's thoughts on these episodes!

Episode 3 was definitely not as cool as eps.2 The tease about Cooper revealing the killer’s identity – kinda annoying people! Lol - everything about this show is over the top. I totally see why Carter loves this series. Haha, the FBI agent with the incredibly bad attitude (it figures that guy would crack you up Carter).

I’m having a hard time deciding which of these characters would have been the most fun to play from an actors standpoint. Lots of great choices. (I just wish they would write Nadine out of this series fast. I do not like her.)

Even though it does not come close to episode 2, there are some nice parts. I feel so sorry for Laura’s father. That’s how I would be if someone close to me died. I would be a walking, bawling mess just like Leland. That was about the goofiest funeral scene I’ve ever had to watch. Lol at him riding up and down. What an idea!

One scene that I definitely liked - Sheriff Truman with Josie Packard on the floor. That Michael Ontkean is just sexy

Please tell me that Jerry Horne is coming back into the picture. I don’t know why but I really love his character.

Sheriff Truman: Morning Lucy, what's going on?
Lucy Moran: Er... thanks to Jade, Jared decided not to kill himself, and he's changed his will leaving the Towers to Jade instead of Emerald, but Emerald found out about it, and now she's trying to seduce Chet to give her the new will so that she can destroy it; Montana's planning to kill Jared at midnight so the Towers will belong to Emerald and Montana, but I think she's going to double-cross him and he doesn't know it yet. Poor Chet.
Sheriff Truman: What's going on here?

Synopsis
Episode 4: The One-Armed Man (004)

Written by Robert Engels.
Directed by Tim Hunter.
Original Airdate: May 3, 1990.

Cooper and Truman track down the one-armed man and some strange new evidence in Laura Palmer's murder; Norma Jennings attends a parole board hearing for her husband; Audrey Horne decides to begin her own investigation.

Well, the whole thing is rolling along nicely. I'd forgotten all the 'Inivitation to Love' diversions since I watched the series last time, so it's sort of funny seeing Twin Peaks take a poke at traditional soap operas. The plot is developing along at a fair crack, and we get some new characters (Norma's husband and the one-armed man) to throw into the pot, the investigation is starting to point firmly in one direction, and 'Bob' is also starting to entrench himself in the murder. We also find out Laura and her mother are capable on having visions. Audrey is also trying to wheedle her way into the investigation to bag herself Cooper, and is getting a job at the perfume counter in order to get a job at One-Eyed Jacks (YUMMY!). We also see that another main character is involved somehow in the drug/Bobby/Leo shenanegins.

The vet thing was amusing, as was Lucy trying to figure out the vet records and who owns a bird.

And they even discuss the mystery that is 'woman'. Women are made from a different set of blueprints. Amen.

It's all adding up to an addictive intrigue, and Cooper remains as cool as ever (two for each eye, one for each nostril).

Oh, and the owls are not what they seem.

Episode 5: Cooper's Dreams (005)

synopsis
Quote:

Written by Mark Frost.
Directed by Lesli Linka Glatter.
Original Airdate: May 10, 1990.

Cooper and Truman have tea with the Log Lady and discover a macabre crime scene in the woods; Audrey Horne takes a job at her father's department store; Hank Jennings returns from prison to the Double R Diner; James Hurley and Donna Hayward take Madeleine Ferguson into their confidence.

Cooper being awoken by Icelandic drinking songs was amusing, as was his vexation - he's usually so cool!

Okay, this one has the investigation motoring one, and proceeding at a rapid pace. We have a scene with the Log Lady talking to Cooper (and the other cops) and telling some interesting nuggets.

And at the reception for the Icelandics...when the music starts and Leland has a compulsion to dance, even in abject misery and pain. Half funny/half really sad and tragic, especially when so many around him are completely unaware of his breakdown...

A good episode, and good to see the investigation steaming on.

And Cooper finding sweet Audrey in his bed...must be tempted.

lol, this must be every guy's fantasy. She is so bad. That scene in the department store where she told her new boss how it was going to be, wow.

I really liked episode 5. There was a lot going on in this one. But how come it's called Cooper's Dreams? I don't get it.

Anyway, what I liked -

Cooper being annoyed with the loud Icelandic folk. He is usually so polite.

Shelly and Bobby in Shelly's kitchen. Man those two are pretty hot. Then there is that awesome scene where Catherine Packard slaps Ben for having the chip from One Eyed Jacks in his pocket. cracked me up! This guy is a real player. She slaps him really hard once and he is completely unfazed. So she slaps him again on the other cheek. still unfazed. "Are you quite finished?" he asks. She stares at him with steely eyes and slaps him yet again! then says "yes" - "Good." They embrace in a passionate kiss on the desk. Lol. That was one of my favorite parts Catherine Packard would be a nightmare of a girlfriend.

Finally, Shelly defending herself against Leo. I hope she damaged him fairly severely!

I'm still not getting into Donna and James. Also, the pychiatrist is just really creepy to me. I don't like that guy at all. And oh yeah, what is with that Josie? Geez, how many men can she be entangled with? could get very interesting with her.

Very good episode, imo.

Episode 6: Realization Time (006)

Quote:

Written by Harley Peyton.
Directed by Caleb Deschanel.
Original Airdate: May 17, 1990.

Agent Cooper and the Bookhouse Boys pay a special visit to One-Eyed Jacks, while Audrey Horne goes undercover as a hostess there; Josie Packard shares her suspicions with Truman about Catherine Martell's intentions; Dr. Jacoby receives a phone call from the dead Laura Palmer.

Another good episode, and mostly steering to the more conventional (or as close as Twin Peaks gets), and a lot of fun. And THIS IS THE ONE. You know guys, the one with the cherry stem...

In addition, we get more and more intrigue surrounding what's going on at the lumber mill, as there seems to be double and maybe even triple-crossing going on.

And James, Donna and Maddy are playing a game with Dr Jacoby that seems to be trying to send him insane, from what I can gather...

All in all, a great episode.

NOTE: The next one, discussed on Friday 27th is the last episode of series 1. This means season 2 will be discussed on Monday 30th April, so get your rentals ready, all you people wanting to join in (season 2 is available for buying/rental).

I also think season 2 starts with a 90 minute or maybe 2 hour opening episode, so factor that into your time.

I just loved the acting in this episode. Director did an amazing job - from the opening scene to Shelly getting quite panicked, to that scene with Catherine and the insurance guy, to Audrey's slick performance in the department store and finally with her being interviewed by Blackie. I see why you guys like her so much. She’s extremely captivating. So glad you guys turned me onto this show.

Anyway, great performances all the way around in this episode. What do you think Carter? This particular director is impressing me. Btw, what is with all the different directors on this series? Is that normal for a TV series?

Oh yeah forgot, Ed’s disguise at One Eyed Jacks was pretty stupid

Rothko, Mrs. Utah – Catch up please! Anyone else watching this with us? Dom, you're in for season 2, right?

Cooper and Truman's investigation builds to a terrifying conclusion; Dr. Jacoby heads for his rendezvous with "Laura Palmer"--and its bizarre consequences; Catherine Martell and Shelly Johnson are hopelessly trapped; Hank Jennings' evil influence spreads, engulfing Josie Packard.

A pretty great episode, with mystery piling on mystery, event piling on event. There's burning buildings, shootings, beatings, pregnancy, suicide, death, and the beautiful Audrey caught in a very, very tricky situation. AND AGENT COOPER? OH MY!

I'm not going to talk about it any more till someone else chimes in, but I hope this whets some of your appetites to watch this and join in.

Also, I guess we'll take a week off and discuss season 2, episode 1 on Monday 7th May. I hope this gives everyone a chance to lay their hands on season 2.

Also, I recommend two movies to anyone in love with Twin Peaks, each of which contain 2 of the cast: 'THE HIDDEN', and 'THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS' - both terrific, underrated horror movies, btw.

ZOMG!! PEOPLE ARE GETTING SHOT ALL OVER THE PLACE!

Very good episode Carter, so much is going on in this one. And wow, poor Audrey! This is in fact a most tricky situation. I can't stop thinking about her predicament and what she is going to say to explain herself. Embarrassing

Must get my hands on the next episode and find out what happens with her. Gah!!

(Something tells me Agent Cooper is going to be fine )

Here are my questions and comments:

1. The scene with Lucy and Andy – what on earth is going on? Did I miss something? Have they been together and I just missed it? Hm, don’t tell me it was in EP4? Damn, I knew I shouldn’t skip around.

2. I liked the scene where Shelly is washing her hair and Leo sneaks up behind her. To me that is a good scene. I still maintain that Shelly is one of the best parts of this series (hope Dom agrees with me still!)

3. Ok here’s what I think about Donna. I think she is a very bad girl, set Laura up to be killed somehow so she could get James. Who dug up the necklace in the dirt? The doctor or Donna? I think she is guilty of something.

4. Ok now to Hank. Clear something up for me. He says that Josie’s husband was killed in a boating accident. He then states that he served time in prison for vehicular manslaughter. Is there a connection between the guy he killed and the fact that Josie’s husband died in a boating accident? I’m confused! Do we know anything about the guy he killed? There are too many dead people in this series and it’s getting hard for me to follow all the different storylines.

Side note: Norma can express so much with her eyes. She doesn’t have to speak to tell you when she’s vulnerable and upset and pissed off. Peggy Lipton wins the award for Actress With the Most Expressive Brown Eyes. I know, I know. Carter is going to tell me that Audrey wins this award but I beg to differ!

5. I had a weird thought when I was watching the scene with Catherine and Pete searching the office for the ledger. Pete plays real dumb and seems like a likeable, nice guy. I suddenly wondered if he’s more involved in setting up his wife than he is letting on. Possible? I think there has to be a dark side to him. That would be a great twist.

Well after I typed up this whole mess of a post I went back and watched the entire ep4 which I had unfortunately shirked. Lol. That clears up some stuff! Let this be a note to myself. Never skip around when watching Twin Peaks!

I thought it was fairly established they were an item, and she'd been giving him the cold shoulder for most of the episodes.

I don't think there's a connection there - but I could be wrong.

Do you think she's very like her daughter, who is wassit in 'The Office'?

I was surprised like Katy was on the first time I saw Twin Peaks, but that is because I missed the Pilot. When I saw the pilot, it made the Andy-Lucy thing pretty transparent in there. As Lucy calls Andy by other names, i.e, "honey" or something to that effect.
Later on in the episodes she starts losing her respect for Andy as he is too sensitive, but if I remember correctly by the end of season 1 they are an item again.

Episode 8: May the Giant Be With You (2.001)
Synposis
Quote:

Written by Mark Frost, based on a story by Mark Frost and David Lynch.
Directed by David Lynch.
Original Airdate: September 30, 1990

The death of Laura Palmer sent shock waves through the Pacific Northwest town of Twin Peaks. On the special, two-hour season premiere episode, the investigation into the mysterious killing continues, sorrow settles over the community as several lives hang in the balance, Audrey Horne finds herself a terrified prisoner, and Donna Hayward receives a strange message.

Another episode directed by Lynch, and when you watch the series at a steady rate like I've been doing, theses really stand out as special. You can tell the guy has a masterful grasp on what he's doing.

Well, we last left Twin Peaks, an awful lot was happening, most significantly Cooper had just got shot and lay dying. And we open with this. Wow, even at death's door, Cooper remains completely and utterly cool. The opening scene is long and slow-paced, but just perfect. I found myself getting tense, thinking 'someone get that man to a doctor!' And then we see the giant...

Audrey's in a very awkward spot, and is saved by lucky circumstance. And we see a slightly different side to Jerry Horne...

Anyway, big surprise, Cooper makes it, and lays out all the details of the case so far.

And Leland Palmer...wow, that hair, that crazy singing. He's cracking me up with that mad enthusiasm (and how it infects Ben and Jerry...lol), but you just have to feel sorry for him.

Other highspots consists of a ton of little quirky moments, very Lynchian and very funny/engaging - Andy getting a plank in the face and staggering around; Donna starting to act like she's on heat; Lucy opening up a copy of Flesh World; the heart-to-heart between Major Briggs and Bobby; Albert's reaction to Big Ed pouring out his heart; the giant; Pete and the hospital food; Andy telling off Albert (and Lucy's reaction to it); Pete's face when he talks about smoke inhalation; the 'fairy princess'; Audrey praying to Cooper; Ronette starting to remember stuff; and that girl playing the piano at the end credits.

And does anyone else recognise the red-headed fairy princess? She looks familiar, but I can't place her.

At a time like this, curiously, you begin to think of things you regret. The things you might miss. I would like in general to treat people with much more care and respect. I would like to climb a tall hill, but not too tall, sit in the cool grass, but not too cool, and feel the sun on my face.

I wish I could have cracked the Lindbergh kidnapping case. I would very much like to make love to a beautiful woman who I had genuine affection for. And of course it goes without saying that I would like to visit Tibet. I wish they could get their country back and the Dalai Lama could return. Oh I would like that very much.
-Agent Cooper

LOL, the things one thinks about when waiting to be rescued!

This was an exciting episode. No question that David Lynch puts creepier elements into his episodes than the ones not directed by him. That whole opening scene was rather weird with the really old guy. How incompetent can you get? If I were Cooper I'd be pissed off with that old guy.

(I loved Lucy's summary of the events that transpired and Cooper's response "How long have I been out?" )

As for Leland, well he is just off the charts crazy. I don't know why this particular character bugs me so much but he does. I guess I'm uncomfortable with watching a man go insane. Do you feel that way? I thought the dinner scene at Donna's house was actually really good. Nicely directed. Her sister did a great job reciting that poem. You can definitely see a high quality of direction in this episode, better than normal TV, that's for sure. (lol, Pete and his smoke inhalation. I do believe that actor was milking it a little!)

Another place that I thought was beautifully directed was the part where Bobby and his father are in the diner. Ok, it was a little sappy and unrealistic. But it was powerful and very surreal if you ask me. Lol at how Bobby slouches down in the booth and looks completely disrespectful at the beginning. Then he sits up and takes an unusual interest in his father's life. Then the father relays his dream to him. That man is kind to him! I really liked it. Maybe it's because in my fiction I often have characters telling someone about a dream they had or maybe it's because I think this is how parents should talk to their teenagers, like they actually think very highly of them.

Also, the end scene with Audrey praying was very sweet. I liked the way it was filmed, the way it cut to Cooper sleeping in his cozy bedroom, and then back to Audrey looking sexy in her long black slip, and just everything about it. I can understand why she is crazy about Cooper. I'd be praying for him too.

I have never seen any parts of Twin Peaks and know very very little about it. Was relatively popular, ended abruptly, and it revolved around someone being murdered. I don't even know if those 3 are true, but it is all I know.
