All Harry Dean Stanton did was watch the kid's soul fly away...I guess....and why is such a minor character from the movie in this anyway? Where is Audrey? Ed? James? The Hornes? Etc. Why nothing more on the monster in the box? Why nothing in SD? Why no Bad Coop?

Why do we have to watch ten ****ing minutes of Balthazar Getty doing magic tricks?

This is looking like one big wank.

However, since it's Lynch...gotta give him a the benefit of the doubt, I guess.

Carl Rodd is kind of significant in the Secret History

I think it's too soon to question the "narrative purpose" of things we haven't seen play out yet. Lynch really does not think of this episodically; it's one long movie.

The second paragraph here is an insightful explanation of the Dougie stuff: http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2017/06/...-review-part-6

Quote:
Agent Cooper’s escape from the Black Lodge may have ascended into full Lynchian surrealism, but his subsequent return to reality - via doppelganger Dougie Jones - has unfolded in a relatively straightforward fashion. The story may be strange and supernatural, but David Lynch and Mark Frost tell it methodically and conventionally, allowing Cooper’s long road to rehabilitation to take the time it needs. We hang on every milestone straining to draw out his former self - his first coffee, the case files, the policeman’s badge - like we’re watching an Alzheimer’s sufferer looking at old photos. It may be slow, but that process of rediscovering humanity feels true, largely thanks to Kyle MacLachlan’s performance - by turns delightful, inscrutable, and achingly sad. “Wake up,” entreats one-armed Mike from the Black Lodge. “Don’t die,” we implore along with him. Maybe Twin Peaks: The Return is, as its title suggests, simply the story of Cooper returning from the Black Lodge, undoing two decades of spiritual abuse. Does it have to be anything more?
Other than Dougie, this episode actually felt the closest to the original series I think? Introducing us to new quirky/scary characters, setting up new mysteries, moving forward on existing mysteries.

Baltimore,

Don't get me wrong, I "get" the whole Dougie stuff...it's just boring. And we are a third of the way through the 18 hour movie...I'm on board, I'm a full-on Twin Peaks fanboy and Lynch fan, but this last episode was just...boring.

Except for the ice-pick dwarf killer, of course.

And I loved FWWM, even though most of the original TP cast wasn't even in it.

Interesting episode....

So the Horne who ran over the kid is obviously Audrey and Evil cooper's son, right?

The peanut sweeping scene has everyone in a tizzy, apparently... "what did it mean," etc.

I think he is.

I have a feeling Dark Cooper went on a rape spree...

Did you notice that guy's sweepings had a draw knob?

I don't think I've ever seen a scarier sequence than the creepy guys stopping the couple in the car, asking for a smoke. Don't know why, but it freaked me the **** out.

Dude went full on Eraser Head.

Had to watch the episode twice. I get how it could be seen as a creation story, but what was the deal with winged insect lizard?

Also, what did everyone make of the "Woodsman" and his radio broadcast?
Were they supposed to represent the birth of evil?

Maybe this will all be explained shortly. We're not halfway through the "movie" yet, but David Lynch always leaves me with more questions than answers.

The Woodsman is actually an ancestor of Dick Tremayne IMO.

Does anyone remember in Season 2 when Dick Tremayne is asking Andy 'Got a light?'
