The Handmaid's Tale- just finished the season. Jesus. I felt more on edge during that show than I've ever felt watching anything on either the big or small screen. I love it, though. Can't wait for next season

I'm seven episodes into Boardwalk Empire and haven't really been able to get stuck into it and I think I know why: I went into it expecting it to be somewhat more of a red blooded, white knuckle crime drama, but it's actually more of a slow burn soap opera.

Think I'll watch the 5 remaining episodes of the first season and go from there.

Me, the non-TV watching poster, goes on a bender about once per year, so take what I'm writing here with a grain of [this idiot doesn't know wtf he's talking about].

This year's bender is on two TV shows...

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

A friend showed me a bunch of the good shows. Just brutal on so many occasions. I started watching at season 13 and went backwards. Some of it is just so well-done and funny, while other episodes are kind of floppish.

I love watching Danny DeVito and Kaitlin Olson do their parts. I also like the other actors, but those two really bind the show together, and it's nice to see they are allowed to shine.

Bojack Horseman

I've started at season 3 and wow, I'm totally impressed. That underwater episode was just plain brilliant.

It may be because this is a cartoon and not a live action, but this show has some dark emotional punch to it, while still maintaining some humor and zaniness. I'm not a TV connoisseur by any stretch, but this truly feels like one of the best-written shows possible.

I think it's pretty cool because the animators aren't lazy about the background. There is so much detail and silly bits of action happening, even during some major points of the show, that I find I have just as much fun watching the background as the foreground, at times.

You are missing quite a lot of value by starting shows at the end and working backwards imo. Even comedies where most of the episodes are standalone, much of the humour in later seasons comes from things that have developed over time/callbacks to previous episodes. This is certainly true of IASIP.

I think I might have to revisit Bojack. I watched 2 or 3 episodes a couple of years back and just couldn't get into it, but it gets such rave reviews from so many people that I feel like maybe I'm missing out.

I just started watching Ozark on the weekend. Only 3 eps in, but very enjoyable so far.

I just try to get to the good stuff first, since I'll likely get bored. I don't keep up on shows very well at all. For example, I binged Orphan Black 3 years ago and didn't watch the next season until 2 weeks ago, binging the entire season.

I can sort of tell where the back-references and can sort of keep them in mind. The big one being McPoyle's (sp?) eye. Took me a while to finally see the wedding.

I'm bored of IASIP, so I'm Bojack season 2, but probably not going to finish that, since I'm bored watching TV in general. I'll probably shut off the TV until my next binge, which will likely be when Stranger Things season 2 finishes.

Binged season 2 of Last Chance U. on Netflix. Season one was great and this season was just as good if not better. About the football program at Eastern Mississippi Community College which is probably the top Junior college football program.

They take lots of guys released from big D1 programs who ran afoul the law or at least rules, regulations or academics. Head coach who spits fire, assistants trying to cope, a counsellor with a heart of gold and a variety of great athletes with attitude problems and difficult histories.

Football documentaries just work for some reason. They are almost always great and this is no exception.

The Defiant Ones - Four part HBO documentary about Dre and Jimmy Iovine. First 3 1/2 hours are great. Last 1/2 hour is a Beats commercial, but it is pretty crafty the way they did it. The best parts for me were the old studio performances from Easy E, NWA, Snoop, Eminem. I could watch that stuff for days. It is a really good documentary that is a great companion piece to Straight Outta Compton as you get the real story on some of the stuff from the movie and Dre does address the incident with the female reporter.

GLOW Netflix Series based on the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. It's a really fun show and I hope we get a second season.

The Handmaid's Tale Loved this one. It can make you very uncomfortable at times. It is probably my favorite new show of the year and right behind The Leftovers for best show I've watched.

The Leftovers One of the top 5 shows of all time and no one watched it. First season is slow, especially the first 5 episodes. From there it is brilliant and the series finale was perfect. Please go watch this series. It has some of the best scenes you will every watch on television.

Just started Ozark and will watch Catastrophe and Last Chance U next.

I really think bojack horseman might be the greatest show ever made.
it's certainly right up at the top of my list alongside band of brothers and the sopranos.

I watched the documentary on Netflix. The first 75% was really good and full of interesting stories. The last part gave a bit of closure to a lot of things, but wasn't really my cup of tea. Overall, I did enjoy it (this should probably be in the movie section, but just wondering here).

Yeah, this show was written by people who really went through some **** in their life, it seems. I knew a few ex-celebs / semi-celebs in LA who were quite similar to BoJack and the other characters. It hits close to home in so many ways while still feeling like it'd hit close without that prior exposure.

Season 3 semi-spoiler:

Spoiler:
I rewatched the episode where BoJack and Sarah Lynn go on that bender. After a second viewing, I noticed all the little hints dropped at how it would end. Even the first frame shows her in that painting looking like...

It's def more of a soap opera. I think S1-S2 are worth watching, but it gets kinda meh after that.

I did not like the way the show ended and I would avoid it based on that. Winter decided he wanted to make Vinyl so he took a dump on this show. Capone had just risen to power at the end of season 4. Instead of focusing on him, they cut the last season to 8 episodes and did a 7 year jump forward.

Despite intending to get to the end of season 1 at least, I actually ended up bailing after Episode 9. Just couldn't find the motivation to carry on.

So instead I've jumped over to Lost. Began watching it when it first was broadcast in the UK, but after Channel 4 lost the broadcast rights to Sky, I only saw up to about the halfway point of season 2.

People have said it turns into a complete WTF garbage fire by the end because the writers were had no overall plan on developing the story and literally made it up as they wrote it, but having started and not finished for oh, 11 years, I figured I might as well finish as I at least did enjoy watching it back in the day.

Yeah, it was such an epic show....loved everything about it...can't think of a story arc or character that didn't interest me in some way.

Started watching bojack because of this quote. It's certainly entertaining, but lack the big laughs like in Always sunny or curb. Still early on so maybe it gets funnier.

Heh, I did the same thing because of that post. I have warmed to it since my first go at it, but I pretty much agree with what you said. I'm about 1/2 way through s2 and I haven't really noticed a change in quality. I will continue to watch it though.

I'd put it at about the same level as Rick and Morty and Archer. It's definitely enjoyable but it's nowhere near as consistently funny as peak Simpsons, or even Family Guy or South Park. And comparing it to Sopranos and BoB is almost sacrilege imo.

Bojack isn't as laugh out loud funny as some others, but it's characters and world are incredibly interesting. I love how some of the animal characters still retain a semblance of their "animalness" and species in their actions. They're not just talking animals.

ya bojack is so much more than a simple comedy n the humor is much deeper than simple slapstick altho there is plenty of that as well.

the show also deals with despair n loneliness better than any other show I can remember.

i can totally understand some ppl not liking bojack.
i don't think it has the kindv widespread appeal of some other shows, it seems like it either hits a chord with someone or totally misses.
