Watching final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm for the first time, first two episodes. I like the show but have never been the biggest fan, and get super mad when people get cute and say it's better than Seinfeld. These two episodes have hurt my opinion of the show overall.

S8E2 is especially problematic as it mocks battered women and objectifies another (burlesque dancer). Beyond that, and I don't recall if it was always like this or not as I mostly haven't watched the show since the Seinfeld season aired, LD is much too over-the-top douche and the enemies he makes in every episode are usually too unreasonable to ring true. Part of the appeal, I think, is supposed to be that we understand where he's coming from most of the time, but it's too much so far this season.

Baltimore has such delicate political sensibilities, lol.

You're right about how it's not even close to being as good as Seinfeld though. It's still very good.

dude Baltimore you can find sexism in anything.
it must be miserable being offended on behalf of an entire gender constantly.

u really actively try to get offended as well cuz no normal person would watch that episode and think it was mocking battered women.

99.9% of the time LD is the one being mocked.

there isn't a more self depreciating writer in all of hollywood all LD does is make fun of himself.

and obv u have no issue with men being made fun of or humiliated but don't even think about poking fun at women cuz thats what gender equality is all about!

ur over the top feminist crusade is pretty obnoxious.

S8E3 is one of the best ever. If you don't like that one you have no sense of humor

S8E2 would never fly today. Four years ago society wasn't as enlightened. I have doubts that he'd even make that episode today, and if he did he would get blasted everywhere.

Are you one of those people who thinks there's racism against whites?

I do have a problem with jokes about male prison rape, for one thing. Jokes at LD's expense are not male sexism.

The reason I have what appears to be an "over-the-top feminist crusade" is because once your eyes are opened to it you realize that sexism is everywhere. While everyone knows racism and homophobia are wrong, you still see sexism all the time in modern film, TV, message boards, etc. and most of the time it isn't even talked about.

lololololol racism against white ppl.
ok bro.

cuz ya only way someone could think ur obnoxiously over sensitive and pc is if they are some kindv wacko right wing racist themselves eh?

seriously be more delusional.

and in case u can't understand what I just said: no I don't think there is racism against white ppl in our society.

I actually would consider myself a progressive liberal except ppl like u who have hijacked that title and made the left wing extremists almost as ****ing insane as the right wing religious freaks.

so now instead of right wing/left wing I belong to the "common sense, don't be an annoying ******* about every godamn issue" party.

and let me tell you brother it's a very small party.

the irony is I generally agree with your ideas the problem is u alienate ppl by attacking every single thing even innocent non malicious stuff rather than focus on the actual evil **** and that turns ppl off to your whole message.

there is all kinds of ****ed up racist and sexist **** that needs to be confronted, but when u go after silly good natured comedies u just seem like a PC obsessed nut job.

and then when ur response to criticism is "oh u must think there is racism against white ppl" u just cement urself as a ****ing clown.

no idea how u can enjoy life at all when everywhere u look all u can see is racism and or sexism.

**** must have to be so bland and devoid of any humor to pass ur PC test.

I really liked that scene when Nate came down to support David in ep6 of season 4, after the whole kidnap ordeal.

No words spoken. I have really turned into a big Michael G. Hall fan. I think he is excellent and no doubt following the kidnapping we are going to see some superb acting, as his character goes through some dark, emotional anguish.

Only 17 episodes left

Might want to read back my original post, in which I calmly wrote exactly one sentence about making light of a battered women's shelter being "problematic" and then focused on other things. Must be miserable living life without blowing your top every time you read a mild feminist critique of a show you like.

The line about racism against whites was and is entirely justifiable, as you essentially said I'm biased for not caring about bad things happening to men and only care about one gender. It's the exact same idea as people who think there's racism against whites.

You don't make a battered women's shelter into a big joke. Period. You're better off accepting that it's problematic, forgiving LD for being less enlightened as most of us were a few years ago, and moving on; this isn't a good spot to dig your heels in.

I'm sure LD would be delighted to know that you've forgiven him for making a couple of jokes you didn't agree with! If you found that episode offensive, that's your problem.

----------

Just finished watching Bloodline. It seems to be a show that has flown under the radar a bit as I haven't really heard much talk about it. It's a pretty slow build-up, but I enjoyed it. Worth a watch just for the performances, especially Ben Mendelsohn, who was terrific.

Although I agree with you that sexism isn't as taboo as other forms of discrimination, I don't believe we have witnessed a sea change in the last four years. Forty, okay.

RBK was the first person to make it personal, so maybe that was out of line, but BJ, you essentially called him a racist* because he thought LD was not being offensive and that was and is way the **** out of line.

*I hope you won't bother arguing that point because I won't believe you anyway. You certainly think people who think there's racism against whites are racists.

I don't know what a sea change is exactly but I do think quite a lot has happened in 4 years. This was not something men had to think about at all in 2011, now on male-dominated forums like this one there are at least some people on the attack. I didn't understand or care until gamers started sending rape and death threats to Anita Sarkeesian in 2012 for wanting to make YouTube videos about women in video games.

In all seriousness I don't think the question was out of line at all. He was talking like an MRA with the "you don't care when bad things happen to men" schtick, and I would fully expect most MRAs to believe there is also racism against whites.

Well, if season 1 of The Knick was solid enough, season 2 turned out to be quite the melodramatic kitch soap opera There is a certain depth to most of the characters, but I nonetheless hope they will not renew it for a third season...

Nice, next on my list. Am watching Making a Murderer ; it is decent, definitely binge worthy, yet I would still want to shoot myself if I was at a Christmas dinner with the whole table engaging in a Making-a-Murderer-love-fest-discussion Still, the quality of your average tv show has seen

I was very upset with the ending of the second episode of the Man in the High Castle:
[spoil]
I thought it was ridiculous for the Japanese to kill Frank's family. They can threaten him about it, but they don't actually have to go through with it if they will kill him.
[\spoil]

I am debating whether to keep watching or not. I'll probably give it one more episode.

I thought it was good. A bit too much filler though and I hated the whole Lisa thing dragging on. Hopefully that's that put to bed.
