You're really missing out. The show switches from episodic to a serial in the second season, and it becomes epic.

My Top 5:

Deadwood
Sopranos
Band of Brothers
Six Feet Under
Twin Peaks

On a side note... I watched the entire series of Twin Peaks without realizing, until about a month ago when a friend told me, that Riff and Tony from West Side Story were both in it. It blew my mind!

Just started watching The Wire after I finished True Detective. It's a bit dated with the technology but the story is pretty awesome so far.

I was under the impression the they left around the same time and it's much easier for him to see lowe has left vs having to Google when sorkin left so figured it was more helpful to phrase it like that for someone unfamiliar with the show.

My top 5:

Breaking Bad
True Detective
The Killing
Deadwood
Boardwalk Empire

Currently on season 3 of The Wire. I'm sorry but it's still maybe 7 or 8 overall.

I admired The Wire more than loved it

I feel the same. I have a ton of respect for the ambitious politico-social-geographical analysis of a modern American city and the different point of views displayed, that said, there are shows that I enjoyed more. I still include it in my top 5 list though because it works and is probably the smartest show ever done. Season 4, the one about the school system, is the nuts.

Confession # 2 : I just can't get into watching Treme! I put it on a couple of times, but alas!, simply stopped before the end of the first episode...

I'm kinda on the same page. Maybe my hopes were too high but I didn't even finish the series, I skipped the last season. I really liked season 1 though. It kinda fell off for me in the season about the shipping containers/docks

I wasn't big on the 2nd season either.

the second season will grow on you on rewatches.
it's actually really good, but it def helps once you watch it for the second time n understand how it fits into the broader story.

I loved the second season : something about the blue-collar-getting-up-in-the-morning-with-a-beer is really appealing to me...

This is the problem with calling The Wire the best show of all time. Season 1 is the best season of any TV show ever. Season 2 is also solid although not as good as 1. After that the show is still fine, but seasons 3-5 are not good enough for the show as a whole to be called the best of all time.

That's why I'd have to rate a show like Mad Men as better than The Wire when looking at the show as a whole as it was great the whole way, through and through.

Wire season 2 was my favorite. Season 5 though was embarrassing though despite having the goat final episode. Even with its flaws though it buries most shows.

Yeah, season 1 through 4 of The Wire are amazing, with season 5 being drop off, sure, yet still contributes to the show - despite its wacky nature.

Question : I know this has been mentioned in the movie thread, but my gf will watch Battlestar Galactica for the first time. What is the mini-series introductory called - or whatever that was - and is it worth it? I just jumped into season 1 myself without finding it too much of a harsh, in your face, debut.

I'm sorry, I can't agree that the first season is the GOAT. There's just no way. Breaking Bad's first season is arguably more deserving of that title. The Wires first season was excellent, but not amazing.

Finally caught all of True Detective. It was good, but I don't get the over the top love. Season 2 previews look interesting though.

FINALLY close to finishing The X Files! 202 episodes holy **** that's a lot of t.v!

I know people say season 9 is poor, (and i'm only a quarter in) but the eps. i've seen so far have been quite good.

Thx. I guess I had watched it, but was somewhat confused... (they did make a post recap of the show with added material afterwards...). I will make sure she does as well.

Apparently True Detective will be airing on Sundays, starting June 21 ; Sundays were already great with GOT and all, but are now simply splendid

I'm always saddened at the lack of love for six feet under, so elite and hands down best series finale ever.

BB
MM
6fu
Deadwood
Bob

Wire/sopranos are just "good" to me unlike others, but I think that may be due to watching them later on after they finished.
