That show went off the air just long enough ago that it probably didn't have any true HD film transfers done (I think that became a common thing in maybe 2005 or 2006, and I think the show went off the air in 2005). Pre HD era, nearly everything was transferred to a tape format called D1. It's really high quality, but not considered HD. All normal home video transfers used to be done to that (because of that is what so many VHS movies didn't look awful). Six Feet Under likely would have been done that way. However, because it's so old, they would likely have to do all new film transfers to HD. That's not cheap, and if they're not going to make money back from it, they won't do it. Movies and TV being re-transferred to HD (if they never had an HD transfer done restoration might even be necessary which is a lot more expensive) is the only reason they can even remotely justify the often triple dip.
