I started watching Downton Abbey. Cannot believe I'm actually enjoying this show. It's way different than what I usually watch. Most people I know would consider it odd if I told them I love it, but it really is good.

Just binged the first season of Rectify. Damn good show, and unlike anything on American TV.

Does anyone like Hell on Wheels. It's a real kick-ass western.
Also like Justified

I wish Rectify Season 2 would hurry up and get to Netflix. Sundance's utter botching of their On Demand service caused me to miss the original airing, and Sundance isn't available in HD on my cable system (On Demand is nonsensically). If it doesn't look like it will be on Netflix before the end of the year, I'm gonna buy it on Amazon, but don't want to.

Oh man, Black Mirror is outstanding sci-fi. I've bingewatched the first three episodes, and it's the most legitimate heir to The Twilight Zone I've ever seen.

That's easily the best one in terms of drama.

That one cracked me up - cos I kept picturing Cameron in his place.

I'll have to see the pig one again...it was the first episode, and because I had no idea what Black Mirror was a bout, it kind of put me off some...I wasn't sold on the main premise - but I didn't realize the show was a satire/comedy....and think the main premise is both brilliant and potentially prescient.

Pig ****ing thing was a little too gross for my taste, but I liked the overall premise of social media gone out of control. Love seeing sci-fi used as social commentary --it's what made so much of classic sci-fi so great.

I will need to start following Charlie Brooker a little closer. Had only really remembered him from that Aspirational TV rant, which is great.

I watched the Black Mirror christmas special.

Whilst one of the stories was poorly resolved imo, this is probably the best one off special drama I've seen in many years.

With lots of time off over the holidays I decided to marathon a bunch of shows I had been wanting to watch from the recent tv season.

Gracepoint (FOX) meh. Murder mystery. Was okay, definitely could have been better. Early episodes good but then dragged in the middle with lots of filler. If not a marathon I would have quit. Ending/resolution out of left field (sort of). Like the effort and format but it was lacking.

The Knick (Cinemax) Just didn't click for me. Story of a NY hospital in 1900. Very dark in both subject and the lighting for every scene. Very well done cable show with top notch production and performances but like I said it just didn't click for me. I hated most characters except for 2 (the big ambulance guy and the Nun) and both of them took a backseat the last half.

Survivors Remorse (Starz) Had no idea what to expect? Sort of a black Entourage with a young basketball superstar. Only instead of a brother and 2 friends his entourage is a cousin (his manager), an uncle (this guy is great and steals every scene!), his mother and sister. Basically trying to manage his career and riches while fending off the guilt of having so much now that he has survived the hood. I liked this one a lot.

Loved loved loved Broadchurch (which is streaming on Netflix Watch Instantly now). This blows True Detective so far out of the water in terms of a murder mystery/crime detective serial. There were a couple cheesy parts in the ending but ultimately so much more satisfying than True Detective. Not a bad performance from any of the cast either - I really liked Ellie Miller, the female lead detective.

I was gonna ask if any had seen Broadchurch as it is the orginal to the aforementioned Gracepoint's US remake. The same guy (Tennant) plays the lead in both series.
