Finished the first season of Foundation...very good. Epic, beautifully produced. Jared Harris and Lee Pace star with a bunch of very good unknows.

oh man, it has lee pace, my desire to see foundation has gone up 10 fold

also, despite the bad reviews, someone recently informed me it's only inspired by the books and not following them, which made me 100% onboard because my main concern was that they'd butcher it so much i'd hate it

That was all the complaining I heard originally, that they butchered it so much everyone hated it. I loved the books so probably just won't watch it. Seems similar to the Dark Tower movie. It was so godawful that they started saying Oh hey, it's a totally different story.

I read the books when I was a teenager and loved them, but beyond the basic storyline and main characters, I had forgotten most of it.

I think the show has done a wonderful job with it...and both Harris and Pace are fantastic in it - Harris plays Hari Seldon and Pace plays Empire - Brother Day. The two other leads are played by women of color I have never seen before - Lou Llobell plays Gaal and Leah Harvey plays Salvor Hardin. Laura Birn who plays the robot Demerzel is also excellent.

I really enjoyed the season. It's quite dense, as you'd expect. I compare it to The Expanse. It has that "epicness" grounded in reality that I liked so much about that show and books.

Definitely worth watching. And there's a second season coming!

Any [original UK] Taskmaster fans here? It's probably my favorite show to watch right now. I've binged a few of the series/seasons multiple times. Currently watching the new Champion of Champions 3

I am. The newer seasons have been a bit hit or miss for me, but I thought the latest season was the best one for quite a while, which I wasn't expecting at all.

Also didn't know that the new CoC was out. Thanks!

Ya I ripped through the first 8 seasons or so. Been a bit of a grind getting through lately.

Would I Lie To You is another great British show that Taskmaster fans would probably enjoy. Very consistent too.

I doubt others will agree with me, but I'm not sure why a TV series starts in the middle of things and then needs to slow the narrative down by including a bunch of backstories.

I like Slow Horses for a number of reasons and that the show spends almost no time on unnecessary backstories. Foundation is good, but I find myself fast forwarding through those backstories.

They know that exposition sucks, but its pull is too great and it eventually sucks them in. Too, they may run out of ideas going forward and have to go backwards in search a subject.

people are more likely to tune in order to get unanswered questions answers

lost, who shot jr, i first experienced it with x-men the cartoon, which had lots of episodes hinting at and dealing with mysterious origins of various character's pasts and then instead of given an answer, the next episode would jump ahead to a new storyline instead, leaving those questions unanswered and you tune again next week hoping for results but they never come and then the show is cancelled

Absolutely Fabulous popped up on the Hulu recommended list. I used to watch it all the time back in my stoner days (along with The Young Ones, which I can't find anywhere).

I didn't think my wife would care for it, but we gave it a shot. Much to my surprise, she really likes it.

Been watching Fauda, an Israeli show about an IDF special unit combatting terrorism, on Netflix is really good. I've only watched season one, but enjoying it so far.

I have been between semesters since December 14th through yesterday, so I have had little to do but watch movies during that time. And it takes until about two weeks into the semester before the working of prep and responding to papers begins. That, and my full time teaching position is three days a week for a total of ten hours in the classroom.

I enjoyed Fauda a lot. I have some strong views about that **** show, so was worried it’d be politicised propaganda trash, but felt they did a very good and fair job. Reminded me quite a bit of the Shield.

I have a student, about 18 or 19, in my writing class who has seen every episode of The X-Files. When I said my favorite episode was Postmodern Prometheus, she said Season 5, Episode 5.

She also said she knows every line from one episode by heart. Like where do these kids come from?
