We tried Bridgerton and didn't like it. I'll check the other two out. Thanks!

Yeah Bridgerton is a bit campy and geared toward younger viewers but I didn't have much else to watch at the time. I was also really into shows about that time period and it was all over the Netflix trending and top 10 lists so I watched it regardless.

I just saw that season 2 of Undone is now out, I'm totally doing that next. Season 1 was pretty good from what I can remember, it's been awhile though, might have to go back and skim s1 first. Hm can you skim tv, I guess maybe.

Final season of Ozark suuuuuucked. It actually makes me appreciate shows like Breaking Bad and The Sopranos even more when I see how many once great shows have no idea how to end a series. Not that I ever really considered Ozark to be a great show, but it deserved better than this dumpster fire of a season.

Yeah Just finished it although I haven't liked it for a while. I thought first 2 seasons were pretty good and then it kept dropping off. But it was there so I just kept watching. I guess I was pot committed? Still love the Ruth character but that's about it. Really hated the way it was shot so dark. Even scenes in bright sunshine were dark. I understand they wanted that gloomy feeling from all of the dark shots but I don't agree with it.

Darkly lit scenes are a pet peeve of mine also, but that would be about #16 on the list of things I disliked about the show.

On a more positive note, I really enjoyed the first season of Severance. It certainly has a lot of trainwreck potential, but I'm looking forward to seeing where they go with it. Imdb seems to think that season 2 will be this year, but I don't think that can be correct?

really, the entire final season? how would you have gone about it then? i thought what happened with omar, javier and ruth was pretty fitting and basically inevitable for most of the characters given the gruesome and gritty nature of the show. i didn't really get the gist of returning the addict girl from the bar, its like she was just thrown in at the last minute. my only complaint was specifically about the final scene, i actually wished marty and the wife would have gotten busted and left the kids free to perhaps even start their own cartel business empire (?). also, i guess i do have a second complaint-- i wish agent miller had come back and nabbed marty and the wife at the end, as she seemed to be the only true moral character of the show (besides the private investigator). otherwise, loved the final season and the show in general, easily one of the top 15/20 of all time.

Outer Range is pretty great...the director of the last two episodes, Amy Seimetz, is an actress most know for Upstream Color, Pet Sematary, and Alien Covenant. She has done an excellent job keeping the performances grounded in reality in ouch a strange narrative.

And man those performances are just amazing...by everyone, but especially Lili Taylor and Tom Pelphrey.

Should probably have posted that in spoilers. I was mostly referring to part 2 of season 4, I guess.

Spoiler:
For one, the pacing is terrible. They spent huge amounts of time on plot points that we either don't care about, or we know are going to lead absolutely nowhere.

The ending of part 1 had Ruth out for revenge on Javi, which is then totally done with by the end of the first episode of part 2 (because it's obviously super easy to kill a cartel boss), but not before we're treated to an entire episode of listening to Nas on repeat. So now all that's left for Ruth is to plan a hostile takeover of the casino (lol) with a character I'm pretty sure everybody had totally forgotten even existed.

Also, we have the grandfather in town looking to take the kids away from Wendy, but we know that can't actually happen if you remember the car accident they showed in the first scene of part 1. What was the point of that btw? The only purpose that served was to take away any tension of something happening to the Byrdes until that crash, which was halfway through the final episode. And then it ended up being a complete nothingburger. Wtf??? Oh, and how about Wendy being willing to kill literally anybody, including her father, to "protect" her family, but she draws the line at voter fraud. Just lol.

The final scene was too stupid to even put into words. A better ending would have been to have lumberjack Dexter jump out from behind the bushes and kill the Byrdes with his chainsaw. Seriously.

I have a bunch more things I could nitpick, but this is too long already. Basically, I thought it was just really lazy writing, and pretty dull overall.

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode. It looks like they're going back to an old-style episodic format instead of the serialized shows like Picard & Discovery. This particular episode was very reminiscent of a lot of TOS & TNG episodes that dealt with the Prime Directive. Without getting into spoilers, the only negative to me was that there was a callback to something that occurred when these characters were introduced on Discovery, so I need to go back and watch some of that.

I'm not sold yet on Ethan Peck's Spock, but Anson Mount's Capt. Pike is great as is Rebecca Romijn's Number One (although she didn't have much to do in this episode). I also like the other cast members who were introduced in this episode.

For the first time in the Kurtzman era, I'm actually looking forward to the next episode of a Star Trek series.

We're about 5 (maybe 4?) episodes into Outer Range and I dunno. It sort of reminds me of Lost where they toss a lot of weird stuff at you but nothing seems to get resolved. I'm gonna stick with it but it definitely hasn't grabbed me.

The Staircase on HBOmax is quite good

And the new season of Hacks is fun, too. Love Jean Smart.

I just watched the first episode of Archive 81, it's deliciously dark and crazy. It reminded me a little of that underrated Tesis movie from a few years back, Spanish for Thesis.

Midnight Mass had some good stuff in it but I ended up bailing halfway thru ep 4. The evil just started crowding out the other aesthetic elements for me. And the little anti-Christian pro-Islam riff they did with the horrible Catholic lady and the saintly Muslim sheriff arguing over Bibles in public school was just laughably out of place.

Ever watch the true crime miniseries? It's pretty good. It's now a granddaddy of the genre.

John Cole, have you seen that Olivier Assayas has remade Irma Vep as an HBO series with Alicia Vikander? Looks interesting.

Three episodes through Yellowstone. I haven't enjoyed it too much but intend on charging forward based on universal assurances the show improves over time. The acting is possibly the worst on average I've seen in an acclaimed show in a long time. Some of the actors/actresses are fine, but several of the leads are just distractingly bad.
