Semi-true. The books are like 1500 pages I guess and that is a lot for anyone, even the writer to keep track of. He doesn't actually employ people to keep track of it for him but when he was on conan last year he talked about how the show is starting to catch up to the books and if he doesn't get to writing that there will be nothing more to shoot lol. but back to the point he doesn't actually employ the person that helps him out, it is actually just a super fan, I believe he said that the fan lived in like Iceland or somewhere. He says he has to call this fan regularly while writing because he forgets things like the characters eye or hair color. I guess this fan keeps detailed charts of every character ever mentioned in the book for reference, although I am not sure why the author doesn't do that himself.
I consider myself an TV fanatic, I have pretty much seen just about everything from 1999-the present, that was on a major network. I actually am a huge fan of USA dramas and FX is the **** when it comes to cable TV. I had almost a whole year off of work and school and rather than doing something productive, I watched everything I had ever heard recommended.
The reason I mention that is because for someone that watches just about everything, I have actually managed to miss True Detective. I know that I would like it, I enjoy Woody Harrelson in just about everything he has done. Matthew McConaughey's dramas lately have been dead on, Lincoln Lawyer, Mud, Dallas Buyers Club are all great performances. His career turn around really is just amazing, and his Oscar campaign was second to none.
I went to watch the first episode of True Detective on demand, and it just seemed like everything in my life was working against it. I got phone calls, a friend stopped by, and one of the guys I tutor IMed me needing some help. So needless to say I couldn't devote my full attention to the show, and since then I just haven't decided to sit down and get caught up. There is no real urgency to watch it because I can get caught up anytime I want. I'll be home for a couple weeks at the end of the month and will have to carve out some time to watch this series that has gotten all this attention.
Question to those who have seen it, does McConaughey have a shot at beating out Kevin Spacey (as until now I would have said it was his to lose) for the emmy this year? Goodness that would certainly be a a cherry on top for this career 180 for him. I bet the producers at HBO are as giddy as school girls that he won the Oscar, as it will only help the ratings for TD even more. Would be cool to see the best actor Oscar winner taking the best actor Emmy as well. I don't know if its been done before, probably but I don't feel like looking it up lol.
