We're about three quarters of the way through Orange is the New Black on netflix. Basic premise is that yuppie New Yorker woman carried some bags for a drug dealer in her youth and 10 years later she goes to prison for it.

Like most of these premium channel shows they front load a lot of the T&A in the first episode. Aside from the T&A, I was on the fence after the first couple episodes. But we pressed on and now I'm enjoying it quite a bit. They've turned it into a pleasant little ensemble show and I find myself more invested in the side characters than the main ones.

I thought Orange is the New Black was great and I went into it expecting to not like it.

I read the books not long before seeing the show, and it's amazing to see how cleverly they adapt the original stories. I'm very concerned about season three, because I think they've almost run out of original source material to work with.

Ep. 3 is much better.

I heard very mixed reviews of 3 without anyone spoilering it. My friend loved it and he is a big fan.

High expectations for the new Cosmos reboot this Sunday at 9 on FOX. deGrasse Tyson is great at what he does, Ann Druyan is in on the project, and Seth MacFarlane is just the kind of wildcard every good team needs.

I can remember seeing the original as a kid and just being fascinated. If you've got children, get them to watch it. Oh, and the original is available on youtube in all of its geeky, turtle-necked charm.

I am looking forward to the Cosmos reboot also. I have listened to a couple reviews from critics (whose opinions I trust) that have seen at least the first episode and said the content and production quality were both top notch.
I also believe Seth M brings added value to the project and from what I've heard the show wouldn't have been green lit without his influence. Seth prints more $$ for Fox than anyone else at the entire network and with that comes autonomy and influence which equals freedom. My guess is that "Cosmos's needing to be profitable to stay on the air" v.s. "Seth wants a quality science show to be on weekly" means it probably gets to stay on the air, regardless of ratings. And anytime the focus can be "quality" not "ratings" I think we the viewer come out ahead.

Mostly, it was a lame It's Always Sunny reference. But in all seriousness, it's good to have someone who knows the nuts and bolts of making a TV show on the team.

NdGT has said in interviews that he's not going to dumb down the material for mass audiences, and I'm certain Druyan won't sign off on anything unless it's good, so I've got high expectations for this series.

Update: The new Cosmos more than exceeds my high expectations. Absolutely a worthy successor to the original. Content is solid, production values are solid, visuals are stunning --for god's sake, watch it on a proper HD TV and not your laptop. If you have children, find some way to get them to watch it, doesn't matter how old they are. Also, there's an amazing personal note at the end very nearly had me in tears.

I'm already excited for the next reboot!

Oh, also, NatGeo is re-airing the original Cosmos if you want to kick it old-school.

Mission accomplished with perfect timing! Great show and I know I enjoyed the marathon more than I would have with the weekly wait. I watched the first 7 this weekend just in time for the finale tonight. Woody and MM killed it and pretty much defined what great TV is and can be.

Ditto on the new COSMOS series. Watched it tonight and it was very well done. Hope it sustains. And yes, Tyson did a great job, and the last few minutes were superb. Personal and inspiring.

COSMOS airs every Sunday night! Don't miss it!

Good to see that Cosmos was good. Haven't watched yet. I watched the trailer this morning and it looked like it was gonna suck.

So I had to see the premier of Resurrection, to see how it compared to the great French TV series, the Returned...

It sucks monkey balls. Unbelievably, laughably bad.

Semi-true. The books are like 1500 pages I guess and that is a lot for anyone, even the writer to keep track of. He doesn't actually employ people to keep track of it for him but when he was on conan last year he talked about how the show is starting to catch up to the books and if he doesn't get to writing that there will be nothing more to shoot lol. but back to the point he doesn't actually employ the person that helps him out, it is actually just a super fan, I believe he said that the fan lived in like Iceland or somewhere. He says he has to call this fan regularly while writing because he forgets things like the characters eye or hair color. I guess this fan keeps detailed charts of every character ever mentioned in the book for reference, although I am not sure why the author doesn't do that himself.

I consider myself an TV fanatic, I have pretty much seen just about everything from 1999-the present, that was on a major network. I actually am a huge fan of USA dramas and FX is the **** when it comes to cable TV. I had almost a whole year off of work and school and rather than doing something productive, I watched everything I had ever heard recommended.

The reason I mention that is because for someone that watches just about everything, I have actually managed to miss True Detective. I know that I would like it, I enjoy Woody Harrelson in just about everything he has done. Matthew McConaughey's dramas lately have been dead on, Lincoln Lawyer, Mud, Dallas Buyers Club are all great performances. His career turn around really is just amazing, and his Oscar campaign was second to none.

I went to watch the first episode of True Detective on demand, and it just seemed like everything in my life was working against it. I got phone calls, a friend stopped by, and one of the guys I tutor IMed me needing some help. So needless to say I couldn't devote my full attention to the show, and since then I just haven't decided to sit down and get caught up. There is no real urgency to watch it because I can get caught up anytime I want. I'll be home for a couple weeks at the end of the month and will have to carve out some time to watch this series that has gotten all this attention.

Question to those who have seen it, does McConaughey have a shot at beating out Kevin Spacey (as until now I would have said it was his to lose) for the emmy this year? Goodness that would certainly be a a cherry on top for this career 180 for him. I bet the producers at HBO are as giddy as school girls that he won the Oscar, as it will only help the ratings for TD even more. Would be cool to see the best actor Oscar winner taking the best actor Emmy as well. I don't know if its been done before, probably but I don't feel like looking it up lol.

They most likely won't be in the same category, and Spacey isn't even the frontrunner for best actor in a TV drama so...

I just read that True Detective will likely be in the mini-series category since the actors will not be returning for the remaining seasons, I guess it is going to be like American Horror Story where some actors and the general story will be the same but with different settings and main actors. If that is the case it seems like McConaughey would likely be the front runner already. I can't wait to see who HBO will tap for the next seasons, will be hard to top two Oscar caliber actors.

Woody and MM both bury Spacey but yeah, probably different category. I think Spacey in HoC was/is super cheesy. HoC is a fun show but not a real good one when compared with the best TV has to offer.

Cranston still has one year left for Emmy consideration right? if so he will crush spacey.
MM n WH both gave unreal performances.
to the poster listing all the movies you liked MM in recently I think you left out his best performance, killer joe.
if you haven't seen it def do so ASAP.
Thomas Haden Church also crushed it in killer joe.

Curious if there is any love out there for Web Therapy? Three seasons in the books (Showtime) and I really hope there is a fourth. Hi-effing-larious. Lisa Kudrow is one funny broad! And Lilly Tomlin, omg, so funny.

Never saw the original Cosmos. The first episode of the new series started a bit slow, but by the end I was totally hooked. The whole calendar of the time of the universe was outstanding.
