Watched the pilot and first episode of Starsky and Hutch. That was a great show, in particular the pilot. Gritty, funny, buddy-cop movie with a touch of the French Connection about it.

Binge watched Good Girls Revolt on Amazon prime over the past few days. I really liked it a lot and am especially fond of 60's period pieces in general. Am bummed that Amazon cancelled it. One of the better series I have seen over the past few years.

Binge watched Stranger Things.

This season was dark and had a great atmosphere to it. It felt like a "real" horror show, where you have to earn yourself to the end a bit, though it obviously isn't hard-core extreme. Very good setting / horror for American stuff.

What I didn't like:

Spoiler:
WTF was the point of all the extra characters? Max and her brother was such a ****ty add-on plot. It would have felt better if she had something to give to the group, but outside the silly love story, she and her brother did nothing for the plot or the show.

The love plots all felt contrived and silly, but that was a problem in the first season as well.

The whole Chicago crew was pretty dumb as well.

The ending of the season was mostly predictable, especially with 011 coming in at the last second to save the boys.

Despite those complaints, I did enjoy it. I didn't feel like i had to make huge logical leaps to navigate the universe they came up with. I hope they do another season.

I never really got into season one although I did watch it all the way through. Over the past couple of weeks I found myself binging tons of Netflix and Amazon Prime. I pulled up Stranger Things season 2, watched the season one recap and said to myself, Hell No! I remembered why I didn't like season one. Just not my cup of tea I guess? Maybe if I get super bored some time and run out of other things that interest me but both of those seem unlikely. I know most people love it though.

Season 3 of Peaky Blinders is now on Netflix in the UK.
Every bit as good as S1 & S2.

We got through the first season of Stranger Things and are kinda on the fence. The last episode was pretty fun. I've sort of gotten used to the bad acting and ridiculous plot holes and have been sucked in somewhat. We'll keep watching.

I'm very excited about the new season of The Crown. If you haven't seen this, you should give it a go.

Not sure if this belongs in the TV or movie thread but Errol Morris has a new 6-part documentary on Netflix called Wormwood that I am really excited to see. I understand it is being shown in some theaters also.

Pretty good, but I prefered Steven Ives' The West http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115418/

Just finished this and thought it was great.

I do have a couple of nitpicks, but I liked it a fair bit more than Mindhunter.

Two arbitrary shows I've been watching over the past 2 days. These are both shows that's been around for a long time, and I just watched some of the latest seasons.

Family Guy (season 16)

I never had much love for this show. When it first came out, it seemed to be the love child of these animated sitcom shows. There was American Dad, King of the Hill, and so on. I don't think any of the shows released after The Simpsons brought anything new to the table, but Family Guy built up a cult following and has outlasted all of them.

For whatever reason, the live stream started popping up on YouTube. There was also a lot of little snippets that, in isolation, are pretty funny. And I guess that's the problem I have with the show: it's good for one-liners, but it gets grating for 30 minutes.

South Park (season 21)

I'm old enough that I recall having my own place (and 30 inch TV) when the very first episode came out. I recall just loving it, but quickly decided it wasn't all that good. I may have watched most of season 1 though I'm not sure.

Over the years, I've watched a show now and then, and it was never bad, never great, just exactly mediocre.

So far, I've watched the first 2 episodes of this latest season and I have to say it's actually good. I'm not LOL'ing at it, but I do think it's funny and well-written. It makes a statement and seems to do it in a more subtle style than it used to.

Watched the first 2 eps of Wormwood. Fantastic so far. Errol Morris is a genius. Visually, the reenactments are some of the most beautifully filmed scenes I've ever seen. Even if you don't care that much about the CIA cover-up storyline, it's still very worth watching for the amazing cinematography, and as a portrait of a son tortured by his father's death.

I thought Godless was pretty bad. Had an excellent pilot but clearly nothing else was thought through at all. This should have been a 2 hour film, but instead it's dragged out in some of the worst ways imaginable. Thankfully the production values (except a few cgi mishaps) and acting is top notch.

Marvelous Mrs Maisel is fantastic due to the script, setting, and excellent acting. Mrs Maisel herself fell flat for me in a few episodes where I kept thinking that she's incredibly annoying and there's no way that her peers would actually love her so much, but for most of the series I was on her side. The show is largely carried by the AMAZING supporting cast. All of the parents, her manager, and her friends are absolutely wonderful.

Stranger Things 2 Was a perfect 1 season show, this was a waste.

Godless was very good, a must-see if you at all like westerns. There were a few subplots that wound up being pointless, but overall I'm glad they kept it to a self-contained seven episodes instead of letting it meander on.

The End of the Fuc***g World has been vastly overrated.

Wormwood was good.

Binged on Inspector George Gently, an excellent UK police procedural. The series, originally off to a shaky start, is now finished forever.

That Black Mirror Episode 1 was terribad. Such a ridiculous plot that it made it nearly unwatchable. I heard other episodes are better.

Like a PM would ever **** a pig on just the hope the kidnappers acquiesce.
